AIM: To investigate the role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in renal injury caused by hyperlipidemia and the influence effect of simvastatin. METHODS: Thirty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: rats in control group (n=10) were fed with normal diet; rats in high fat group (n=10) were fed with high fat diet; animals in simvastatin+high fat group (n=10) were fed with high fat diet and were received simvastatin 10 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1) by gastric irrigation. After 18 weeks, the quantitative urine protein in 24 h, the serum cholesterol and triglycerides levels were tested. The pathological changes of renal tissue were observed under optic microscope. The expressions of GRP78 and p-JNK in renal tissues were examined by immunohistochemistry. The apoptotic cells in the kidney were detected by TUNEL staining. The mRNA expressions of GRP78 and CHOP were examined by RT-PCR. RESULTS: The quantitative urine protein in 24 h, the serum lipid, the expressions of GRP78 and p-JNK proteins, the mRNA expressions of GRP78 and CHOP as well as the apoptotic cells in renal tissues were increased in high fat group (P<0.01).The quantitative urine protein in 24 h, the serum lipid, the expression of GRP78 and p-JNK proteins, the mRNA expressions of GRP78 and CHOP as well as the apoptotic cells in renal tissues were remarkably reduced in simvastatin+high fat group than those in high fat group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The endoplasmic reticulum stress is engaged in the renal injury caused by hyperlipidemia. The simvastatin play a role in renal protection by inhibiting the endoplasmic reticulum stress in the kidney.
5.Effect of acupuncture on expression of neurology-related genes in the brain tissue of the rat.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2005;25(8):573-576
OBJECTIVETo analyze and explore the molecular mechanism of acupuncture precondition (AP) in improving brain ischemia reperfusion injury.
METHODSSix male Wistar rats were divided into a normal group of 3 rats and an acupuncture group of 3 rats. In the acupuncture group, acupuncture precondition was first given at "Shenshu" (BL 23) and "Baihui" (GV 20). The brain of the rat was removed 0.5 hour after the needle was withdrawn, and then gene differential expression was analyzed by genechip method.
RESULTSAfter acupuncture precondition for 0.5 h, expression of 265 genes showed changes of more than 2 times, and that of 20 genes had a significant difference as compared with that of the normal rat (P<0.05). Among the genes, expression of 8 was upregulated and 12 downregulated; 11 were related with neuron signal conduction (ion channel, transmitter, receptor, second message), 5 with gene transcription and control, 2 with metabolism enzyme, 1 with heat shock reaction and 1 with cell skeleton.
CONCLUSIONSome gene expression substances induced by acupuncture play an important role in AP resisting brain ischemia reperfusion injury; and functional changes of neurons after AP are possibly the important basis of its subsequent action in resisting brain ischemia reperfusion injury.

Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2013;(5):536-539
Objective To analyze the clinical and pathological characteristics of breast carcinoma in elderly female patients and to offer the standard clinical diagnosis and treatment for breast carcinoma. Methods A total of 178 patients admitted to Breast Center of Beijing Hospital from January to December 2011 were enrolled in this retrospective study.Patients were divided into non-elderly group and elderly group.Clinical features, imaging diagnosis, operation patterns and pathological diagnosis were recorded. The data were analyzed by using SAS 9.1 software. Results The patients diagnosed as breast carcinomas in BI-RAD 4-5 categories by mammography were much more in the elderly group than in the non-elderly group (82.1% vs.63.0%,P<0.05).The diagnostic accuracy rates of ultrasonography and mammography in the elderly group were comparable(P> 0.05),while in the non-elderly group, the diagnostic accuracy rate of ultrasonography was higher than that of mammography (P<0.05).The incidence of concurrent diseases was higher in the elderly group than in the non-elderly group (P<0.05).The patients undergoing breast resection operation were much more in the elderly group than in the non-elderly group (14 cases vs.3 cases,P<0.05).The pathological diagnosis analysis showed that there were no significant differences in the number of ER-positive cells and PR-positive cells, tumor size, histological grade, pathological stage between the two groups (all P>0.05).The incidence of lymph node metastasis was lower in the elderly group than in the non-elderly group (P<0.05).The percentage of Ki-67 positive cells was lower in the elderly group than in the non-elderly group (P<0.05).The percentage of CerbB-2 strongly positive (+++) cells was lower in the elderly group than in the non-elderly group (5.1 % vs.24%,P<0.05).The invasive ductal carcinoma was the major histological type of breast cancer in both two groups, but there were more mixed type and other type carcinomas in the elderly group than in the non-elderly group (P<0.05).Conclusions Ultrasonograpy and mammography have better sensitivity for breast cancer in elderly female patients. The surgical protocols are often influenced because more concurrent diseases have occurred in the elderly. There are significant differences in some prognostic factors between the two groups, which may imply a better prognosis in elderly patients.

Objective The aim of this study was to assess the current situation and master degree on medical statistics among the medical correlation personnel, in order to provide useful information for transformation of education towards the medical correlation personnel . Methods Using cluster random sampling method to select 358 the medical correlation personnel who were recruited from health institutions in Chongqing to respond to the questionnaires. Questionnaire including respondent basic information, statis-tical knowledge and statistical knowledge needs. The data of the survey were analyzed by chi-square test, descriptive statistics analysis. Results 94.7% of the surveyed used statistical knowledge in the process of work or study. The main concentration of medical statistical knowledge utilization rate, the proportion of receive professional education or training courses of medical statistics and the willingness to participate in specialized training of medical statistics is 20-30 age group, No Title group, Master and over group andStudents group. As for ten categories of common statistical methods, thirty percent of people can use them skillfully, but the majority of the more advanced statistical analysis methods cannot be used or have never heard of. The greatest demand for learning ten kinds of common statistical methods is calculating cor-rectly through statistical software. Conclusion The vast majority of medical personnel need to use medical statistics in the actual work and study, but they have a lower mastery of statistical methods. Therefore, we should strengthen the medical statistics teaching and training for medical personnel.
