Chinese Journal of Sports Medicine 1982;0(02):-
Objective To investigate the effects of different exercise loads on the myocardial expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in rats. Methods 54 male SD rats were randomly divided into control group(C), moderate-load training group(MT), high-load training group(HT). Both MT and HT group were subdivided into three groups:swimming training for 1 week(n=6),3 weeks (n=6)and 5 weeks(n=6). The general conditions during the training were observed. The expression of VEGF and histological changes were investigated. Results The results showed that the expression of VEGF in MT group increased (P

Fungal elicitors are a group of chemicals that can stimulate the secondary metabolite production in plants and microbial cells. After being recognized, it could enhance the expression of related genes through the signal-transduction pathway; regulate the activity of the enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. In recent years, the inducible mechanism of fungal elicitors has been studied deeply worldwide. Meanwhile, it has acquired wide concern in the area of biological industry, especially in the fermentation industry. This paper addresses the application and prospect of fungal elicitors in the secondary metabolites of plant and microbial cells.

BACKGROUND:Destroying posterior stable structure of cervical vertebra may facilitate the ligamentum flavum regeneration. Whether anterior cervical instability can induce the regeneration in posterior and adjacent ligamentum flavum remains unclear.
OBJECTIVE:To observe the changes of transforming growth factor-β1 expression and histopathology in the ligamentum flavum of cervical instability animal models.
METHODS:Thirty-six New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into control group and experimental group, with 18 rabbits in each group. In the experimental group, cervical instability animal models were established made through destroying annulus fibrosus by anterior puncture and absorbing nucleus pulposus in C4/5 . And no intervention was given to the control group.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the control group, fibers in the C 3/4, 4/5, 5/6 ligamentum flavum arranged disorderly and the glass like degeneration was found in the experimental group. The expression of transforming growth factor-β1 in ligamentum flavum was increased, especial y in C 4/5 , in the experimental group. At 4, 8, 12 weeks, transforming growth factor-β1 expression in the C 3/4, 4/5, 5/6 ligamentum flavum segments was similar between the two groups. Experimental findings indicate that, anterior cervical instability can induce the regeneration in posterior ligamentum flavum, especial y in the injured segment.

Virologica Sinica 2007;22(3):226-232
To achieve higher level expression of Interferon α2b (IFN-α2b) in methylotrophic yeast (Pichia pastoris), a cDNA fragment coding for the mature IFN-α2b was designed and synthesized based on the synonymous codon bias of P. pastoris and optimized G+C content. The synthetic IFN-α2b was inserted into the secreted expression vector pPICZαA, and then integrated into P. pastoris GS115 genome by electroporation. Multi-copy integrants in the Mut+ recombinant P. pastoris strain were screened by high concentrations of Zeocin. 120 hours culturing allowed expression of the IFN-α2b transformant up to 810 mg/L as detected by SDS-PAGE and quantitative methods. In addition, Western blot analysis showed that the recombinant proteins had immunogenicity. The significant antiviral activity of the recombinant IFN-α2b protein was verified by WISH/ VSV system, which was 3.3×105 IU/mL.

Objective To investigate the source of the elevated serum prostatic specific antigen(PAS) in prostate hyperplasia patients with large volume prostate. Methods Open surgery (ie,suprapubic prostatectomy) was performed in 27 patients who had a preoperative PSA between 8.1 and 75.1 ng/ml and the volume measured by ultrasonography over 50 ml,DER≥Ⅲ? size, but without symptoms and signs of prostate cancer (PCa).The 27 patients were post operatively followed up to measure the serum PSA,to analyze the change in PSA and the source of pre operative elevated PSA. Results The post operative gross examination showed that the average weight of the prostate enucleated was 82.7 g (40 to 185 g).Pathological evaluation of the surgical specimen revealed that no prostate cancer lesion was found in 25 patients;however,PCa lesions were found in 2.Within 1 month the PSA rapidly dropped down to normal in 26 patients;however,in the remaining one with pathologically proven PCa,PSA increased.24 patients were followed up between 17 and 57 months after surgery. The average PSA level was 1.16 ng/ml(0.08 to 2.39 ng/ml). Conclusions In BPH patients with large volume prostate the increased PSA originates from hyperplastic gland (transition zone),not from the peripheral zone.

Using a bioassay-guided fractionation technique, two compounds were isolated from the roots of Incarvillea younghusbandii Sprague through silica gel, reverse-phase C18 column chromatography and reverse-phase HPLC. Their structures were identified as acteoside (1) and isoacteoside (2) by ESI-MS, GC-MS, 1D- and 2D-NMR. 1 and 2 showed *OH scavenging capacity similar with benzoic acid, higher O2*- (or *OH) scavenging capacity than ascorbic acid, far higher hepatic LPO inhibitory activities than 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) or ascorbic acid, and more powerful effect on protecting erythrocytes from oxidative damage than ascorbic acid. The *OH scavenging capacity was positively proportional to the concentrations of 1 and 2 ranging from 0.015 6 to 0.500 0 mg x mL(-1). The hepatic LPO inhibitory activities increased with the increasing concentrations of 1 and 2 from 0.001 9 to 0.250 0 mg x mL(-1), but decreased slightly with the increasing concentration from 0.250 0 to 1.0000 mg x L(-1).

Objective To investigate the effects of antioxidant response element (ARE) activator- 5,6-dihydrocyclopenta[ C ]-1,2-dithiole-3-thione (CPDT) on organotypic spinal cord cultures and to study whether this activation can protect motor neurons from oxidative stress. Methods Organotypic spinal cord cultures were prepared using lumbar spinal cord slices from 8-day-old rat.Threo-hydroxyaspartate (THA) was continuously added into the culture medium for 3 weeks, which caused selective motor neuron death. Thus, the in vitro model of amyotrophic Lateral sclerosis (ALS) was established.15,30 ?mol/L of CPDT were added into the culture medium respectively.Ventral motor neurons survival was evaluated by immunohistochemical staining with monoclonal antibody SMI-32,a nonphosphorylated neurofilament marker. Ultrastructure was observed with electronic microscope. Results The pretreatment of organotypic spinal cord cultures with different concentrations of CPDT significantly increase the total number of ventral motor neurons (15?mol/L:(15.81?6.97) perexplant;30?mol/L:(16.25?6.74) perexplant respectively) compared with THA group ((5.31?5.76) perexplant) and the former had plentiful neurite extensions (n= 15,P
