Objective To investigate traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome differentiations and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in the young and middle-aged type 2 diabetic patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HF-PEF), and to evaluate the correlations between them. Methods 235 out- and hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes from Department of Cardiology of Affiliated Fuzhou Second Hospital of Xiamen University were enrolled. They were divided into HF-PEF group (120 cases) and non-HF-PEF (HF-NPEF) group (115 cases) according to the diastolic function results of echocardiography. In the HF-PEF group, according to the TCM differentiation of syndromes, the patients were subdivided into four types: heart Qi and Yin deficiency, Yang deficiency of heart and kidney, Qi deficiency and blood stasis and edema syndrome due to Yang deficiency syndromes. The HbA1c levels of different TCM syndromes in HF-PEF and HF-NPEF groups were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. The patients of HF-PEF were further divided into two groups according to serum HbA1c levels > 7.0% or ≤ 7.0%, and the relationships between different serum HbA1c levels and different severity of TCM syndrome types of patients with HF-PEF were compared. Results The level of serum HbA1c in HF-PEF group was significantly higher than that in HF-NPEF group in patients with type 2 diabetes [(7.02±0.74)% vs. (6.79±0.91)%,P < 0.05]. There was no significant difference in HbA1c levels between heart Qi and Yin deficiency type and Yang deficiency of heart and kidney type in HF-PEF group [(6.70±0.66)% vs. (6.70±0.68)%,P > 0.05], while the HbA1c levels of Qi deficiency and blood stasis and edema syndrome due to Yang deficiency syndromes were significantly higher than those of heart Qi and Yin deficiency and Yang deficiency of heart and kidney types [(7.15±0.70)%, (7.55±0.62)% vs. (6.70±0.66)%, (6.70±0.68)%], and the HbA1c levels of edema syndrome due to Yang Deficiency was obviously higher than that of Qi deficiency and blood stasis (P < 0.01). In group of HbA1c > 7.0%, the incidence rate of Qi deficiency and blood stasis and edema syndrome due to Yang Deficiency types was higher than that of the group of HbA1c ≤ 7.0% [61.97% (44/71) vs. 38.78% (19/49),P < 0.05]. Pearson correlation analyses indicated that the number of patients with HF-PEF was positively correlated with HbA1c level in HF-PEF group (r = 0.610,P < 0.05); the HbA1c level was positively correlated with the number of patients with Qi deficiency and blood stasis and edema syndrome due to Yang Deficiency in HF-PEF group with HbA1c > 7.0% (r = 0.683,P < 0.05).Conclusion Clinically using serum HbA1c level to assess the prognosis of HF-PEF has obtained consistent results, and the level is positively correlated to the development of TCM syndrome types in young and middle-aged HF-PEF patients with type 2 diabetes.

AIM: To know the personality and mental health of the poverty college students. METHODS: 2 400 students of grade 2002, 2003 and 2004 were randomly selected from Fuzhou University, Fujian Normal University, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fujian Traditional Chinese Medical University and Minjiang College from September to November 2005, including 1 478 schoolboys and 922 schoolgirls with an average age of (20?1) years. According to the prescript of the Message from Fuzhou City Government of Improving the Lowest Life Guarantee Standard of Residents in the City, Town and Country issued by the office of Fuzhou Government in November 4th 2004, 210 Yuan was provided for each one in many-persons family every month and 230 Yuan for single-person family in the town; 155 Yuan was provided for each one in many-persons family every month and 175 Yuan for single-person family in the country. Poverty college student was defined in the paper as the following: Students with lower average family member month income and some debts, who could only afford part of tuition their basic cost of living closed to the lowest life guarantee line in the local residents (230 Yuan was taken as the baseline) were considered as the poverty students. SCL-90 and 16PF were adopted to study the mental health and personality of poverty college students. RESULTS: 2 400 questionnaires were sent out, and 2 111 valid ones were taken back. ① The scores of somatization, compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobia, paranoid, schizophrenia and others as well as the total score of symptom indexes in SCL-90 of poverty college students were significantly higher than those of non-poverty college students Poverty college students: 1.61?0.56,2.02?0.64,1.92?0.63,1.71?0.56,1.65?0.58,1.73?0.68,1.57?0.62,1.81?0.65,1.67?0.54,1.76?0.63,1.74?0.49;Non-poverty college students:1.48?0.45,1.89?0.56,1.79?0.57,1.61?0.51,1.54?0.50,1.61?0.56,1.44?0.49,1.66?0.54,1.54?0.46,1.61?0.53,1.62?0.41,P 0.05). ② The examined rate of psychological problem in poverty college students of Fujian Province was 24.5%, and that of slight psychological problems was 22.6%, and that of moderate psychological problems was 1.7%, and that of severe psychological problems was 0.2%. Among sub-specific factors, the psychological problems were prominent in obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, paranoid, depression, hostility, anxiety, etc. ③ Compare to non-poverty university students, the scores of poverty university students on sociality, intelligence, excitability, sensitivity, suspicion were distinctly lower, while the marks on permanence, anxiety, independence were significantly higher (Poverty college students: 5.20?1.77,4.70?1.93,5.49?1.87,6.46?1.79,4.29?1.71,4.60?1.63,6.64?1.82,5.07?1.82;Non-poverty college students:5.39?1.74,4.95?1.99,5.82?1.91,6.66?1.75,4.55?1.77,4.36?1.69,6.43?1.94,4.89?1.77,P

Objective To analyze the operation outcomes and learning curve of uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). Methods All consecutive patients who underwent uniportal VATS between November 2018 and December 2020 in Shangjin Branch of West China Hospital of Sichuan University were retrospectively enrolled, including 62 males and 86 females with a mean age of 50.1±13.4 years. Operations included lobectomy, segmentectomy, wedge resection, mediastinal mass resection and hemopneumothorax. Accordingly, patients' clinical features in different phases were collected and compared to determine the outcome difference and learning curve for uniportal VATS. Results Median postoperative hospital stay was 5 days, and the overall complication rate was 8.1% (12/148). There was no 30-day death after surgery or readmissions. Median postoperative pain score was 3. Over time, the operation time, incision length and blood loss were optimized in the uniportal VATS lobectomy, the incision length and blood loss increased in the uniportal VATS segmentectomy, and the postoperative hospital stay decreased in the uniportal VATS wedge resection. Conclusion Uniportal VATS is safe and feasible for both standard and complex pulmonary resections. While, no remarkable learning curve for uniportal VATS lobectomy is observed for experienced surgeon.
