BACKGROUND:Alpha-calcium sulfate hemiydrate/biphasic bioceramics (α-CSH/BCP) as a bone repair material has been widely used in the clinic, but there are stil some deficiencies. OBJECTIVE:To observe the effect of α-CSH/BCP on the repair of bone defects of the radius in rabbits. METHODS:The unilateral radius of 18 adult New Zealand white rabbits was selected to establish bone defect models, and then these rabbit models were randomized into three groups that were treated with α-CSH,α-CSH/BCP, BCP materials, respectively. At 4, 8, 12 weeks after implantation, bone samples were taken for gross and X-ray observations. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Gross observation: At 12 weeks of implantation, the bone defect was completely repaired in the α-CSH/BCP group, and the defected radius recovered basicaly; in the α-CSH group, bone defects were visible; and in the BCP group, there was stil some material for filing and coverage. (2) X-ray observation: In the α-CSH group, the degradation of implanted materials was faster than new bone formation, and bone defects were visible; in the α-CSH/BCP group, bone defects were healed, cortical bone remodeling was good, and the bone marrow cavity was re-canalized; in the BCP group, the implanted materials were stil visible, and bone defects were not repaired. These findings indicate that the α-CSH/BCP bone repair material can significantly promote the repair of bone defects of rabbit radius, with a better repair effect than α-CSH or BCP alone.

OBJECTIVE:To systematically review the efficacy and safety of escitalopram versus paroxetine in treatment of se-nile patients with depression in China, and provide evidence-based reference for clinical treatment. METHODS:Retrieved from CJFD,VIP,Wanfang database,CBM database, randomized controlled trials(RCT)of escitalopram(test group)versus paroxetine (control group) in the treatment of senile patients with depression in China were collected. After quality evaluation and data ex-tract,Meta-analysis was performed by using Rev Man 4.2 statistics software. RESULTS:A total of 14 RCT were included,involv-ing 1 148 patients. Results of Meta-analysis showed there was no significant difference in the cure rate[OR=1.20,95%CI(0.93, 1.53),P=0.16],significant effective rate[OR=1.23,95%CI(0.94,1.61),P=0.12],the incidences of headache[OR=0.81,95%CI (0.40,1.65),P>0.05],the incidences of tachycardia [OR=0.37,95%CI(0.09,1.52),P>0.05],the incidences of insomnia [OR=1.26,95%CI(0.33,4.82),P>0.05] and the incidences of tremor [OR=0.31,95%CI(0.04,2.24),P>0.05] between test group and control group;the incidences of xerostomia[OR=0.50,95%CI(0.31,0.80),P<0.05],the incidences of nausea[OR=0.49,95%CI (0.36,0.66),P<0.05],the incidences of sweating [OR=0.31,95%CI(0.15,0.62),P<0.05],the incidences of constipation[OR=0.31,95%CI(0.15,0.64),P<0.05],the incidences of dizziness[OR=0.38,95%CI(0.20,0.72),P<0.05] and the incidences of an-orexia[OR=0.45,95%CI(0.21,0.99),P<0.05] in test group were significantly lower than control group, there were significant dif-ferences in 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS:The efficacy of escitalopram and paroxetine is similar in the treatment of senile patients with depression, however, the safety of escitalopram is better than paroxetine. Due to the limit of methodological quality and sam-ple size,it remains to be further verified with more rigorously designed and long-term follow-up of large-scale RCT.

Trehalose is a naturally occurring non-reducing disaccharide. This sugar has been known as a protector of biomembrane and macromolecules. And it has been widely used in foods, medicines, cosmetics. Trehalose synthase (TreS) is an intramolecular transglycosylase. It can catalyze the conversion of maltose into trehalose in one step. As the simple protocol and cheap substrate, it is very prospect in the industrial production. Here we have discussed the properties, catalytic mechanism and gene-engineering of TreS, and also proposed some solutions to its present research problems.

Objective: To analyze the expression of mecp2 gene at mRNA and protein;Cerebral cortex level in the cerebral cortex of the normal Wistar rat throughout development. Methods: We chose the 15th day (E15), 17th day (E17), 19th day (E19) of embryo period, the day of birth (P0), the 7th day (P7), the 14th day (P14), the 28th day (P28) of postnatal period, and adulthood as analyzing time points. The expression of mecp2 gene at mRNA level was analyzed by real time PCR and Northern blot. The expression of MeCP2 protein was analyzed by Western blot. Results: There was one type of mecp2 mRNA transcript (approximately 10 kb) expressed in the cerebral cortex of the normal Wistar rat. The expression level of mecp2 mRNA varied subtly during the development. There was one type of MeCP2 protein (75 000) expressed in the cerebral cortex of the normal Wistar rat. The expression level of MeCP2 protein remained the lowest on E15, from E19 to adulthood the expression levels of MeCP2 protein increased dramatically compared with that on E15. From P7 to adulthood, the differences of expression between two time points were subtle. Conclusion: The expression level of MeCP2 protein increases as the neurons in the cerebral cortex of normal Wistar rat grow mature. This indicates that MeCP2 protein is very important to neuron's maturation, and probably has relationship with maintaining maturation state of neurons.
