The recent data on drinking water contamination suggest that pollutions caused by various treatments and consumption behaviors have been a universal public health problem. Contaminants come from materials for supply disinfections purifications secondary water supply system containers for preparation and storage. Overall management and control should be taken to prevent drinking water pollutions including replacement of hazard materials for water supply application of qualified disinfectors and purificants consumption of safety health container. The government should constitute and revise the related laws and regulations to supervise the whole process of water supply and treatment productions and distributions of disinfectors,purificants and drinking water containers.

Objective To explore the potential diferentiation of insulin-secreting cells from muscle derived stem cells.Methods SD rat muscle derived stem cells(MDSCs)were isolated and then induced for 7～12 days with combination inductor.Morphological changes of the induced cells were observed under an inveted microscope.DTZ staining,immunocytochemical staining were conducted to examine the production of insulin.Glucose challenge and radio immunoassay were perfomed to evaluate the function of the aggregates,and RT-PCR was conducted to detect the expression of endocrine gene.Results Typical insulin-producing cells were observed at the end of the protocol(12 days).Ditizone staining and immunohistochemistry for insulin were both positive.Insulin was secreted by these cells in response to different concentrations of glucose stimulation(P

BACKGROUND: How to promote the regeneration after peripheral nerve injury, especially after large defects, is a difficulty to be solved.OBJECTIVE: To review the mechanism of Wallerian degeneration and the development of nerve conduits.METHODS: PubMed database was searched for the literatures addressing the modular mechanism of Wallerian degeneration and nerve repair using the English keywords peripheral nerve regeneration, Wallerian degeneration, nerve guidance conduits. A total of 74 eligible literatures were included based on the exclusion criteria.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Rat SARM1 and fruit fly dSARM have been found to be highly implicated in Wallerian degeneration, indicating that the changes of nicotinamide adenine nucleotide/nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide may be related to the activated SARM1. Whether delaying Wallerian degeneration is good or bad is still in dispute. The future study should focus on the early inhibition of Wallerian degeneration and promotion of neuroregeneration following peripheral nerve injury.

Objective To investigate the predisposing factors and clinical features of disseminated herpes zoster, and to explore factors influencing postherpetic neuralgia. Methods Clinical data were collected from 53 patients with disseminated herpes zoster and 809 patients with common herpes zoster between 2012 and 2015, and analyzed retrospectively. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess factors influencing the occurrence of and pain intensity in disseminated herpes zoster, as well as the occurrence of postherpetic neuralgia. Results No significant difference in patients′age was observed between the disseminated and common herpes zoster groups(56.66 ± 17.24 vs. 56.50 ± 15.51 years, t=0.071, P>0.05), but there was a significant difference in the gender ratio between the two groups(χ2 = 8.16, P = 0.004). The incidence rates of bullae, pustules and fever were all significantly higher in the disseminated herpes zoster group than in the common herpes zoster group(15.09%vs. 3.58%,χ2=16.04, P<0.01;47.17%vs. 26.82%,χ2=10.20, P<0.01;30.19%vs. 8.03%,χ2=28.68, P<0.01). The disseminated herpes zoster group also showed significantly higher pain scores at admission compared with the common herpes zoster group (Median[P25- P75]: 6[4- 7.5] vs. 5[3- 7], Z =-3.460, P = 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed that gender, age, fatigue and HIV infection were significantly associated with the occurrence of disseminated herpes zoster (all P<0.05). Additionally, HIV infection(OR=5.570, 95%CI:1.196-25.939, P=0.029), gender(OR=0.166, 95%CI:0.029-0.945, P=0.043), age(OR=1.064, 95%CI:1.010-1.119, P=0.019)and the number of days that antiviral therapy lasted(OR=0.669, 95%CI:0.505-0.885, P=0.005)were all factors influencing the occurrence of postherpetic neuralgia. Conclusion Male, old age, fatigue and especially HIV infection are risk factors for the occurrence of disseminated herpes zoster, and male, old age and antiviral therapy duration may be associated with the occurrence of postherpetic neuralgia.

In order to establish the quality classification criteria of Paeonia suffruticosa seeds, thirty-one batches of P. suffruticosa seeds from different provenances were selected. The seed rooting rate, seed germination rate, seed purity, seed viability, 1,000-seed weight and moisture content were determined and analyzed through SPSS 20.0 software. Seed rooting rate, seed germination rate and seed purity were selected as the main index for classification, while 1,000-seed weight, seed viability and moisture content could be used as important references. The seed quality grading of P. suffruticosa was set as three grades. The seed quality of each grade should meet following requirements: For the first grade seeds, seed rooting rate ≥ 80%, seed germination rate ≥ 80%, seed purity ≥ 90%, seed viability ≥ 80%, 1,000-seed weight ≥ 250 g, moisture content, ≤ 10. For the second grade seeds, seed rooting rate ≥ 50%, seed germination rate ≥ 60%, seed purity ≥ 70%, seed viability ≥ 75%, 1,000-seed weight ≥ 225 g, moisture content ≤ 10. For the third grade seeds, seed rooting rate ≥ 20%, seed germination rate ≥ 45%, seed purity ≥ 60%, seed viability ≥ 45%, 1,000-seed weight ≥ 205 g, moisture content ≤ 10. The quality classification criteria of P. suffruticosa seeds have been initially established.

In order to optimize the testing methods for Paeonia suffruticosa seed quality, and provide basis for establishing seed testing rules and seed quality standard of P. suffruticosa. The seed quality of P. suffruticosa from different producing areas was measured based on the related seed testing regulations. The seed testing methods for quality items of P. suffruticosa was established preliminarily. The samples weight of P. suffruticosa was at least 7 000 g for purity analysis and was at least 700 g for test. The phenotypic observation and size measurement were used for authenticity testing. The 1 000-seed weight was determined by 100-seed method, and the water content was carried out by low temperature drying method (10 hours). After soaking in distilled water for 24 h, the seeds was treated with different temperature stratifications of day and night (25 degrees C/20 degrees C, day/night) in the dark for 60 d. After soaking in the liquor of GA3 300 mg x L(-1) for 24 h, the P. suffruticos seeds were cultured in wet sand at 15 degrees C for 12-60 days for germination testing. Seed viability was tested by TlC method.

Objective To observe the effectiveness of comprehensive rehabilitation on the recovery of motor function of patients with severe cerebral injury in recovery phase.Methods 72 cases with severe cerebral injury in recovery phase were randomly divided into rehabilitation group (n=38) and control group (n=34). Patients in control group were treated with routine method, and those in rehabilitation group with comprehensive rehabilitation treatment in addition.Results Motor function, activities of daily living (ADL) and complication of patients were evaluated at the first day and two months later after be in hospital. The effect of comprehensive rehabilitation treatment were better than that of control group(P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion Comprehensive rehabilitation is important to the patients with severe cerebral injury of recovering, not only in recovery of motor function but also in reducing the complication.

OBJECTIVEInjection of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) can prevent bone loss in sciatic nerve transaction rats. We try to investigate the action mechanism of IGF-1 on bone formation.

METHODSA total of 40 adult male Spragne-Dawley rats were divided into two groups (experimental group and control group) with 20 animals in each. Sciatic neurectomy was performed to model disuse osteoporosis in all rats. IGF-1 was administered in experimental group with the dose of 100 microgramme/kilogram per day for 3 days. Meanwhile, the rats in control group were treated with saline. Bone mineral density was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry 4 and 6 weeks after neurectomy respectively. Expression of Osterix and Runx2 was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay.

RESULTSThere was a significant increase in the bone mineral density of experimental group compared with control group. There was a significant decrease in the level of receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB-ligand but an increase in the level of osteoprotegerin 4 and 6 weeks after neurectomy in the experimental group compared with control one. The expression of Osterix and Runx2 was up-regulated in the bone marrow of experimental group compared with control group.

CONCLUSIONIGF-1 can increase bone formation by stimulation of osteoblast number and activity, and reduce bone resorption by restriction of differentiation of osteoclast, suggesting that IGF-1 may improve the therapeutic efficacy for disuse osteoporosis.
