West China Journal of Stomatology 2007;25(3):213-215
OBJECTIVETo investigate the efficacy of S-methylisothiourea (SMT) for treatment of temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis (TMJOA) of goats.
METHODSNine purebred black goats were randomly devided into three groups: Normal control group, control group and experimental group. The upper compartments of both temporomandibular joint of the goats in control group and experimental group were injected with collagenase only once to induce osteoarthrosis. Normal control group received no treatment. The upper compartments of both TMJ were injected with 0.5 mL of normal saline, and experimental group, the upper compartments of both TMJ were injected with 0.5 mL of SMT. The TMJ of goats was examined with scanning electron microscopy and microscopy after sacrificed.
RESULTSExamined in light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, normal control group showed normal performance, the control group showed severe osteoarthrotic changes in the temporal surface, disk and condyle, while the experimental group showed improvement of different degree.
CONCLUSIONOn the basis of 3-month following-up study, repeated intra-articular injection of SMT may play a role in inhibiting TMJOA progression.

Objective To compare intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and coronary angiography in measuring the lumen diameter and coronary arteries stenosis rate, to investigate the impact of IVUS in the choice of surgical indications, surgical procedure guidance and effects of operation. Methods The patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) therapy from may 2013 to may 2014 were divided into IVUS-guided intervention therapy group (n=89) and coronary angiographyguided group (n=90).Their baseline parameters, lesion features, MACE and restenosis during follow-up were analyzed. Results Baseline clinical and angiographic characterisitcs were well matched and show no significant differences between the two groups.Compared to angiography-guided group, the minimum lumen diameter (MLD) of IVUS-guided group were higher, diameter stenosis (DS) and lesion length (LL) were lower in IVUS-guided intervention therapy group. The detection rate of calcified and eccentric lesion were significantly higher in IVUS-guided group. There were 204 (93.6 %) and 195 (87.8%) high-pressure balloons used in post-inflation in two groups, respectively. The MLD and plaque burden of IVUS-guided group were obviously improved after stent implantation. Conclusions IVUS-guided intervention therapy in PCI is safe and effective, may be helpful for the judgment of lesion, evaluating stent implantation and guiding high-pressure balloon post-inflation.IVUS-guided intervention could get the bigger immediate lumen diameter and lower plaque burden than coronary angiography without serious short-term or long-term complications.

The degQ gene, amplified from Bacillus subtilis by PCR, was cloned to pUBS (sucrose induced secretion vector). After transformed into DB403, recombination named DB403(pUBSD) was formed. The results of the fermentation showed that degQ gene enhanced the expression of B. subtilis fibrin enzyme. The activity of the enzyme was increased to 2.2 times as the original one. In this article, the effects of different conditions, such as different kinds of sugar, different concentration of sucrose and different induced time were also be investigated and compared.

AIM: To investigate hemodynamic alterations of retrobulbar vessels in proliferative diabetic retinopathy ( PDR) patients with anterior segment neovascularization, before and 3mo after vitrectomy combined with panretinal photocoagulation and to explore the clinical significance.
●METHODS: Color Doppler flow imaging ( CDFl ) was used for measurement of blood flow velocities and resistive indexes ( Rl ) of the ophthalmic artery ( OA ) , short posterior ciliary arteries ( sPCA ) and central retinal artery ( CRA ) in 21 eyes of 21 PDR patients with anterior segment neovascularization. CDFl parameters were obtained before and 3mo after vitrectomy combined with panretinal photocoagulation ( PRP) .
● RESULTS: Peak systolic velocity ( PSV ) and end diastolic velocity ( EVD ) of CRA were significantly increased after surgeries, Rl were decreased significantly (P<0. 05). Parameters of sPCA and OA have no change after surgeries (P>0. 05).
●CONCLUSION: Vitrectomy combined with panretinal photocoagulation might increase the velocity of CRA, decrease Rl and improve ocular blood supply postoperatively. lt may delay or prevent the process of neovascular glaucoma.

Objective To establish rat model of impact spinal cord injury, observe the pathological changes of the model and assess its stability, reproducibility and consistency. Methods Moderate and severe spinal cord injury (SCI) models were established by using modified weight drop device. The pathological and functional changes after SCI were observed by means of BBB scoring, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry and electronic microscopy so as to estimate the reproducibility of rat models and their consistency with severity of SCI. Results Locomotion and nerve impulse transduction along the spinal cord measured by motorial and sensory evoked potentials recovered gradually over time after SCI.However, the recovery rate of moderate SCI group was better than that of severe SCI group. Histological and immunohistochemical experiments showed that the glial scar as well as cavity were formed after SCI.Whereas, compared with moderate SCI group, the injury of severe SCI group was severer, with less spared tissue. Electronic microscopic observation displayed that hemorrhage, edema, neutrophilic granulocytic infiltration and chromatin margination of glia arose at day 1 after SCI. Vacuolization of mitochondria, degeneration of axon with edema could be seen at 2 weeks after injury. Degeneration of myelin and deposition of collagen fibril emerged at 8 weeks postinjury. Conclusions The rat models of impact SCI established in this study can distinguish the graded injury, and significantly correlate with the behavioral, electrophysiological and pathological outcomes, which indicates that the models possess good stability, reproducibility and consistency. Glial scar with cavity marked by GFAP or Vimentin is the pathological hallmark after SCI, and thereby GFAP or Vimentin can be used as a marker for demarcate the border of glial scar.

Objective To analyse the retrobulbar haemodynamic changes after vitrectomy in patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). Methods Color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) was used for measurement of blood flow velocities including peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EVD) and resistive indexes (RI) of the ophthalmic artery (OA), posterior ciliary arteries (sPCA) and central retinal artery (CRA) in 50 eyes of 50 patients with RRD. In them 22 eyes were filled with silicone oil, 28 eyes were filled with 12%C3F8 and 22 eyes were operated to remove silicone oil after filled with silicone oil for 2-4 months, and then CDFI parameters were obtained. The contralateral eyes were used as control eyes before and after the operation. Results There were no significant differences in CRA and sPCA, and PSV, EDV and RI before treatment between RD and OA eyes and control eyes (P>0.05). PSV and EVD of CRA were significantly increased 3 months after surgery, RI were decreased significantly (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in blood flow parameters of OA and sPCA before and after surgeries (P>0.05). No changes were found in control eyes 3 months after surgery. Conclusion VRS might increase the velocity of CRA, decrease RI and improve ocular blood supply postoperatively.
