Chinese Journal of Epidemiology 2005;26(11):897-900
OBJECTIVETo study the relations of noise expose and hypertension in mechanic factory workers.
METHODSA cross-sectional study on 1205 workers (exposed to different noise levels) in Hunan was carried out, using questionnaire, blood pressure of the workers and the exposure level to noise at workplace.
RESULTSThe prevalence of hypertension was 12.1% in mechanic factory workers. There was an increasing tendency of hypertension rate along with the increase of accumulative noise doses (tendency chi-squared = 29.932, P < 0.01). Result by logistic regression analysis after adjusting age, history of hypertension in parents and body weight index showed that the risk of hypertension increased about 5% by 1 dB(A) of more noise exposure (OR = 1.047).
CONCLUSIONNoise exposure might serve as a risk factor of hypertension. Reducing the sound pressure level in workshops could work as an effective measure to control the incidence rate of hypertension in mechanic factory workers.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2005;30(3):276-279
OBJECTIVE:
To determine the status and influence factors of hypertension on mechanic factory workers and to provide reference for further hypertension prevention and control.
METHODS:
A cross-sectional study on 1205 workers (exposed to different noise levels) in Hunan was carried out by using questionaire and measuring the blood pressure of the workers and the noise exposure level in the workplace. The prevalence and the influence factors of hypertension among mechanic factory workers were analysed.
RESULTS:
The hypertension prevalence was 12.1%. Logistic regression analysis showed the body weight index (BMI), age, and history of hypertension in parents and accumulative noise dose levels influenced the hypertension prevalence.
CONCLUSION
Controlling the body weight, reducing alcohol consumption, decreasing the sound pressure level in workshops and advocating healthy diet may reduce the prevalence rate of hypertension among mechanic factory workers.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2005;25(9):645-650
OBJECTIVETo study on mechanisms of acupuncture in relieving visceral pain.
METHODSIn SD rats CRD was used as noxious visceral stimuli. Activities of spinal dorsal horn wide dynamic (WDR) neurons of L1-L13 were recorded by extracellular microelectrode technique. Acupuncture was given at ipsi-lateral and contra-lateral Zusanli (ST 36) of the same segmental innervation of rectum and colon.
RESULTSVisceral noxious afferent could significantly activate spinal dorsal horn convergent neurons, and mechanical stimulation of contra-lateral body surface and hand acupuncture at Zusanli (ST 36) could inhibit this noxious response. When the spinal cord was acutely blocked, the inhibiting CRD effect of needling CRD effect of needling contra-lateral Zusanli (ST 36) completely disappeared.
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture and visceral noxious afferent signals converge and interact each other in spinal level, and acupuncture at acupoint can inhibit the spinal dorsal horn neuron respon se activated by visceral noxious afferent and this action needs the participation of the center above the spinal cord.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the role and application of flow cytometry in the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).
METHODSFresh cell samples from 40 cases of lymphoproliferative disorders were obtained by fine needle aspiration or excisional biopsies. Multiparameter flow cytometry was used to study the surface antigens of lymphoid cells. The immunophenotyping results were also correlated with morphologic features seen in the cytology preparations.
RESULTSOf the 40 cases with histologic diagnosis of NHL, 37 cases (92.5%) had the lymphoma diagnosis confirmed by this method. The concordance rate for the 20 cases of B-cell NHL was 100%. As for the 17 cases with histologic diagnosis of T-cell NHL, 12 cases (66.7%) were correctly diagnosed as T-cell NHL using flow cytometry, while 2 cases (11.8%) were interpreted as B-cell NHL and the remaining 3 cases (17.6%) were undiagnosed.
CONCLUSIONImmunophenotyping by flow cytometry can serve as an ancillary technique in diagnosis and subclassification of NHL.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2011;31(6):991-994
OBJECTIVETo study the radiosensitizing effect of gefitinib on nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE2 in vitro.
METHODSNasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE2 was cultured in RP2MI 1640. MTT assay was performed to evaluate the cell proliferation changes in response to gefitinib treatment and the radiosensitizing effect of gefitinib. The cell survival curves and sensitive enhancement ratio (SERs) were obtained with a clonogenic assay. Flow cytometry analysis was applied to detect the cell cycle changes and cell apoptosis.
RESULTSMTT assay showed that cells exposed to gefitinib and radiation had a significantly lower survival ratio compared to the cells with radiation exposure only (0.582∓0.012 vs 0.398∓0.016, P=0.002), with a SER of 1.535∓0.134. The S phase cell percentage was significantly decreased and G(2)-M phase cells increased in gefitinib plus radiation group (P=0.000), suggesting a synergistic effect of gefitinib and radiation.
CONCLUSIONGefitinib can enhance the radiosensitivity of nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE2 cells in vitro possibly by inhibiting cell proliferation, inducing cell apoptosis, and causing changes in the cell cycle distribution.
