Aim: To improve the synthesis for 2, 5-anhydro-3,4, 6-tri-O-benzyl-D-glucitol. Methods: Dehydration of D-mannitol, followed by a reaction sequence of selective protection, benzylation, deprotection, tritylation, benzy-lation and removal of the trityl group, afforded the title compound. Results: Based on the improvement of the reported synthetic route, 2,5-anhydro-3,4,6-tri-O-benzyl-D-glucitol was synthesized in seven steps from D-mannitol with a total yield of 8. 3% . Conclusion: This new method features mild reaction conditions and facile work-up.

A high productive poly ?-glutamic acid(?-PGA) strain PGA-N in a culture medium containing no L-glutamine was isolated from fermentation products.With the following identifications of colony mor-phology,physiological and biochemistry experiments,and genetics,the strain PGA-N was classified as a Bacillus licheniformis.According to the product environment,the base culture medium having no L-glutamine was simulated.In order to enhance the production of the strain PGA-N,the fermentation condi-tions,such as carbon source,nitrogen source,were optimized and the ?-glutamic acid production reached 5.16 g/L after getting the optimum formulation of this culture medium.PGA-N was mutagenized with com-bination of NTG and UV.A mutant PGA-N-C10 was screened which PGA production was increased from 5.16 g/L to 8.82 g/L.The study also investigated the effects of agitation speed on the cell biomass,?-PGA production and the ?-PGA molecular weight.The ?-PGA yield of PGA-N-C10 was as high as 11.00 g/L when the agitation speed was 400 r/min.

Acetic acid bacteria are Gram-negative,obligate aerobic bacteria that have the ability to incompletely oxidize alcohols or sugars to organic acids as end products. The taxonomy of acetic acid bacteria has undergone many changes in the last 30 years. The early classification systems for these bacteria were based on morphological and biochemical characteristics. Today,the acetic acid bacteria are classified as the consensus result of a polyphasic analysis,combining phenotypic,chemotaxonomic and genotypic data. This paper reviewed the polyphasic taxonomy of acetic acid bacteria,mainly introduced the current classification of acetic acid bacteria,then discussed the application of phenotypic,chemotaxonomic and genotypic method in the taxonomy of acetic acid bacteria.

Objective To investigate the clinical results of minimal invasion spinal surgery (MISS) in treating tibial plateau fractures to provide best procedure for such treatment.Methods The study involved 36 cases with tibial plateau fractures resulted from traffic injury,fall-from-height injury and strain injury including 24 males and 12 females at age of 19-65 years (average 42.6 years).According to Schatzker classification,there were seven cases of typeⅠ,five typeⅡ,five typeⅢ,five type IV,sev- en typeⅤand seven typeⅥ.All cases were treated by different methods of MISS.Results Follow up for 8-24 months in 35 cases showed fracture healing within 3-4 months,without severe complications such as poor wound healing,infection or osteofascial compartment syndrome.Meanwhile,no traumatic knee osteoarthritis,inversion or eversion of the knee were found.The mean range of knee motion was 94?,with fine knee function in 32 cases (91.4%) according to Merchant score.Conclusions Treatment of tibi- al plateau fractures should adopt limit incision,indirect reduction and biofixation to take place widespread exposure and rigid plate fixation.MISS is safe and effective for tibial plateau fractures.

Objective To investigate the effect of 9-cis retinoid acid(c-RA),a retinoid X receptor(RXR)agonist,on hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)induced apoptosis in cultured rat neonatal cardiomyoeytes,and to explore the mechanism.Method Cultured cardiomyocpes were randomly divided into three groups:normal group treated with vehicle(N group),H2O2 group treated with 100 μmol/L H2O2(H group),and c-RA group pretreated with 100nmol/L c-RA(H+R group).Cell viability was detected by MTT.Morphological changes of apoptotic cardiomyocytes were observed by Hoechst 33258 staining under fluorescence microscope.The apoptotic rate was determined by flow cytometry.Mitochondrial membrane potential(△(ψ)m)was measured by JC-1 dye.Cellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)production was detected by CM-H2DCFDA fluorescent probe.All measurement data wIe expressed as(x±s),and statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA analysis and Dunnett test.Differences were considered significant when P was＜0.05.Results Treatment with c-RA significantly enhanced cell viability,reduced apoptosis ratio,stabled mitoehondrial membrane potential and reduced level of cellular reactive oxygen species.Conclusions RXR agonist c-RA inhibits H2O2-induced myocyte apoptosis in cultured rat neonatal cardiomyocytes,which may be related to alleviate oxidative stress injury.

17 strains of bacterium that produced a large amount of ?-PGA when it was grown aerobically in a culture medium containing ammonium salt and sugar as sources of nitrogen and carbon respectively,were isolated from bean products.With the following identifications of colony morphology,physiological and biochemistry experiments,and genetics,the strain PGA-O-7 was classified as a Bacillus subtilis.The PGA production 2.8 (mg/mL) was obtained when it was grown in a medium containing 3% ammonium sulfate and 4% glucose at 30℃ for 72h with sharking.

Objective:To investigate the influence of different processing methods on fatty oils in yolk oil. Method: The contents of fatty oils and fatty acids were determind by ROESS GOTTILE and GC respectively, and the physicochemical properties of fatty oils were identified by pharmacopoeial method. Result and Conclusion: The yolk oils processed by daking and dry distillation are almost similar in the contents of fatty oils, type of fatty acids, acid value, iodine value, saponification value, relative density and refractive index, while obvious differences were found in the products processed by chloroform extraction.

One year survey on the concentrations and monthly or seasonal variations of airborne microbe in Guangzhou city were analysed and studied with JWL-IIB airborne microbial sampler. The results showed that the yearly average airborne microbe content of outdoor was 2, 298 cfu/m3, and that of indoor was 1,792 cfu/m3 in Guangzhou city. The monthly variation range of outdoor airborne microbe was from 1,073 to 4,096 cfu/m3, the highest content was 4,096 cfu/m3 in March, and the lowest content was 1,073 cfu/m3 in October. The outdoor airborne bacteria and fungi counts were the highest in spring, next in summer, lower in winter and the lowest in autumn in the four seasons . The yearly average concentrations of outdoor airborne microbe at the Garbage compression station, the business walk street, the key traffic route, the residential area, the industrial district and the garden were 4, 573, 3, 835, 1, 580, 1,413, 1, 197 and 1, 187 cfu/m3respectively; and Ones of indoor at the key traffic route, the tourist three star-route hotel and the subway station were 2,511, 1,699and 1,167 cfu/m3 respectively . The study on airborne microbe can be used for the research of health prevention and environment control measures in Guangzhou .

A poly-?-glutamic acid producing strain--BLN-2, was isolated from the soybean products. According to the biochemical characteristics and 16S rRNA, the strain was identified as Bacillus subtilis. Using soybeans as culture, the solid-state fermentation conditions of BLN-2 have been studied. The results showed that the optimal carbon and nitrogen sources of BLN-2 were glucose, fructose, NaNO3 and KNO3, respectively. The orthrogonal experiments showed, when the final concentration of the fructose which was added to the soybean culture was 0.5%, the glucose, NaNO3 and KNO3 final concentraion were 2.0%, the production of ?-PGA was the highest--89.05 g/kg. It is 48.42% higher than other comparable soybean medium under the same conditions.

Objective To detect the disease-causing mutations in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) gene of DMD or Becher's muscular dystrophy (BMD) patients or carriers. Methods Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) and denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC) were coupled to analyze the disease-causing mutations in DMD gene. Results Ten patients were detected to have deletions in different exons; 1 patient was caused by duplication of exon 50 using DHPLC analysis, and 4 patients were found to be caused by non-sense point mutations. However, the disease-causing mutations of other 5 patients remained to be determined. Conclusion MLPA coupled with DHPLC analysis can be used to detect the disease-causing mutations of DMD or BMD systematically, and provide valuable information for the affected families in preventing from recurrence of DMD or BMD.
