Pancreatic cancer is a rapidly progressive and highly malignancy of the digestive system. In recent years, the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer has been in a slow stage of development, and the 5-year survival rate of patients remains very low. The main objective of translational medicine is to remove the barriers between basic medical research and clinical medical applications, to achieve practical integration between laboratory and clinic, and to accelerate the translation of the results obtained from basic research into clinical diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of diseases, thus promoting the development of life sciences. With the rapid development of the concept and technology of translational medicine, its application in the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer can bring new hope for effectively improving the overall prognosis of patients. The authors comprehensively analyzed the latest research progress of translational medicine in the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in order to improve the early diagnosis and long-term survival of pancreatic cancer patient.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2007;24(5):1069-1072
As a classic eye movement method, electrooculogram (EOG) has been extensively used in many applications. There are many different types of eye movements and artifact in the EOG signal. Noise attenuation and signal separation have received special attention in the EOG research. In this paper, we introduce a novel Linear-nonlinear combinational filter based on weighted FIR-median-hybrid (WFMH) with the characteristic of the EOG signal. The result of the simulation shows that this filter has the property of removing random noise more efficiently when preserving sharp edges. Finally, it is shown that the new filter is effective in separating saccadic and eye blink in the EOG signal.

Objective:To observe the changes of blood glucose, insulin and dipeptidyl peptidase-Ⅳ(DPP-Ⅳ/CD26)on type 2 diabetes mellitus in rabbits after HUCBSC( human umbilical cord blood stem cells) transplantation. Methods:18 rabbits were randomly divided into normal control group (6 rats,Group C) and diabetic model group (12 rats). After preparation model of type 2 diabetes, and 6 rats of them were treated with HUCBSC ( CD45+,CD34-) transplantation by ear vein transfusion ( Group A) ,and 6 rats were treated with PBS(Group B). All three groups of rabbits were fed for 4 weeks, and the blood glucose was monitored every day,and the level of blood insulin and DPP-IV/CD26 were measured every week. Results:The negative expression rate of CD34 in HUCBSC was 96. 5%. The positive expression rate of CD45 in HUCBSC was 100%. Compared with non transplantation group, the blood glucose and DPP-IV/CD26 in the umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation group were gradually decreased, and insulin level was gradually increased, the difference was statistically significant (P<0. 01). Conclusion:HUCBSC were round or oval, with adherent growth,HUCBSC trans-plantation can significantly reduce blood glucose, increase insulin secretion, reduce the level of DPP-IV/CD26, the immunological phenotype of HUCBSC was CD45+,CD34-,thus providing a new theoretical basis for the clinical treatment of diabetes and its complica-tions.

Chinese Journal of Cancer 2001;20(5):496-498
Objective: This study was designed to explore the significance and the role of wild-type p53 (wt-p53) gene and mutant p53 gene(mt-p53) transfer on human glandular lung cancer cell growth in nude mice. Methods: wt-p53 gene and mt-p53 gene were transfected and lipofectin-mediated into the human glandular lung cancer cell line GLC-82. And the growth of gene-transfected cell lines were observed in vitro and in vivo. Results: The colony number in the colong-forming experiment and the volume and weight in nude mice were greater in the mf-p53 tranfecting cells group than in the control group. The tumor resulting from the cells transfected with the wt-p53 gene grew more slowly and was smaller than that from control GLC-82 cells. In contrast, the tumor from the cells transfected with the mt-p53 gene grew faster than that produced by cells transfeted with the wt-p53 gene and that produced by control GLC-82 cells. Conclusion: The wild-type p53 gene could inhibit the glandular lung cancer cell growth in nude mice and the mutant p53 gene could enhance the glandular lung cancer cell growth in nude mice.

[Summary]_ This is a pedigree of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1(MEN1). The proband pursuit medical assistance because of hypertension and weakness. Adrenal cortical carcinoma with possible Cushing's syndrome was diagnosed after a series of tests. During this process, the proband was found to have hypercalcemia, and he was diagnosed as primary hyperparathyroidism. Adrenal carcinoma plus primary hyperparathyroidism suggested MEN1, which was confirmed by MEN1 gene 400_401insC mutation. Pedigree investigation found six additional patients, including one with high parathyroid hormone level and two without clinical evidence of any MEN1 diseases. The proband died of metastatic malignancy 7 months after diagnosis while the other 3 patients with clinically confirmed MEN1 tumor responded well to surgery, including one with adrenal cortical carcinoma.
