1.The study of serum testosterone concentration in different aged men
Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2003;0(08):-
Objective To study the relationship of total serum testosterone and free testosterone with the age of men. Methods A total of 136 heathy men were classified into six groups. Enzyme immunoassay was applied to measure the serum level of testosterone and free testosterone, and then the relationship between the androgen change and the age was analyzed. Results The level of testosterone of 20-, 30-, 40-, 50-, 60- and 70-78 age group were (6.208?2.275),(4.960?1.719),(5.910?3.054),(4.964?1.531) ,(3.967?2.514) and (4.146?2.497) mg/L respectively.Free testosterone concertrations were:(23.300?9.530),(22.060?12.627),(16.290?6.858),(14.782?6.851) ,(14.005?8.724) and (12.256?7.462) ng/L respectively. The level of blood testosterone decreased in 60-year age groups and the difference between 20-, 30-year old group and 60-year old group was significant (P

Objective To investigate the incidence and etiological factors of hyponatremia following traumatic brain injury (TBI) and analyze the relationship between hyponatremia and the patient’s age, gender, type of injury, Glasgow coma scale (GCS), operation and computerized tomography (CT) scan of head. Methods Clinical data of 136 pa-tients with moderate or severe TBI in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively, including patient’s age, gender, type of injury, GCS, operation, brain edema and basal skull fracture. The relationship between clinical data and hyponatremia were analyzed statistically by Chi-square test and multivariate Logistic regression analysis. Results There were 56 pa-tients with hyponatremia in 136 patients (81 males) with moderate or severe TBI. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that hyponatremia secondary to TBI was not associated with patient’s age, gender, type of injury and operation or not. However, there was a high correlation between hyponatremia following TBI and clinical characteristics of TBI at ear-ly stage, such as GCS, brain edema and basal skull fracture. Conclusions Patients with TBI is more likely to develop hy-ponatremia when they have the following clinical factors, such as GCS≤8, brain edema or basal skull fracture. Preven-tive measures should be given to these patients in advance.

Objective:To determine the predictive value of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) on neurologic function in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. Methods:The clinical data of 96 OHCA patients admitted to Cangzhou Central Hospital from January 2018 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the Glasgow-Pittsburgh cerebral performance category (CPC) upon hospital discharge, the patients were divided into the favorable neurologic function (grade 1-2) and poor neurologic function (grade 3-5) groups. The difference of serum NfL was compared between the two groups, and the relationship between serum NfL and neurologic function was assessed using correlation analysis and logistic regression analysis. The area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, and specificity of serum Nfl were calculated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Hanley & McNeil method test was used to compare the difference of AUCs between serum NfL and neuron specific enolase (NSE).Results:Twenty-six percent (25/96) patients were discharged with favorable neurologic function. Serum NfL in the favorable neurological function group was significantly lower than that in the poor neurologic function group (47.6 pg/mL vs. 261.4 pg/mL, P<0.001). Correlation analysis showed that serum NfL was positively correlated with neurologic function ( r=0.69, P<0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that serum NfL was independently associated with neurological function ( OR=0.92, 95% CI: 0.86-0.98; P=0.010). ROC curve indicated that the AUC of serum NfL in predicting poor neurologic function was 0.95 (95% CI: 0.92-0.99), with a sensitivity of 84.5% and a specificity of 100% at the cutoff value of 80.0 pg/mL. The AUC of serum NSE in predicting poor neurologic function was 0.79 (95% CI: 0.69-0.89), with a sensitivity of 67.6% and a specificity of 80.0% at the cutoff value of 45.1 ng/mL. A pairwise comparison using Hanley & McNeil method showed that the AUC of serum NfL in predicting poor neurologic function was higher than that of NSE ( Z=3.22, P=0.001). Conclusions:Serum NfL is helpful for clinician to predict neurologic function in OHCA patients.

【Objective】 To compare the macrolide resistance, molecular characteristics and multilocus antigen sequence typing (MAST) of Bordetella pertussis (Bp) collected from Xi’an and Shanghai so as to provide reference for prevention of pertussis and optimize vaccination strategies. 【Methods】 Erythromycin, azithromycin and clarithromycin susceptibility of clinical isolates collected from Xi’an and Shanghai during 2018 and 2019 were determined by E-test. PCR was used to detect the drug-resistant genes and mutation sites. MAST was employed to do molecular typing for the strains. The differences in macrolide resistance and MAST types between Xi’an and Shanghai were compared. 【Results】 Totally 34 strains from Xi’an and 26 strains from Shanghai were isolated. There were differences between Xi’an and Shanghai in the macrolide resistance (χ2=13.650, P<0.001). The composition ratio of MAST types of pertussis strains was also different between Xi’an and Shanghai (χ2=18.642, P<0.001) in that the prn1/ptxP1/ptxA1/fim3-1/fim2-1 strains dominated in Xi’an, while the prn1/ptxP1/ptxA1/fim3-1/fim2-1 and prn2/ptxP3/ptxA1/fim3-1/fim2-1 were almost half and half in Shanghai. A2047G site mutation was detected in all the macrolide-resistant strains, but not in all sensitive strains. Methylase genes ermA and ermB were detected in some macrolide-resistant strains. No other macrolide-resistant genes were found in resistant strains and no mutation or drug resistance gene was found in all the susceptible strains. 【Conclusion】 Differences existed between Xi’an and Shanghai in the macrolide resistance and MAST types of Bordetella pertussis strains. Further monitoring of Bordetella pertussis in China is required to better understand the resistance and evolution of the pathogen.
