International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2008;31(4):222-226
This review describes the main technology for non-invasive glucose monitoring and introduces relevent devices. For technology, the physical principle underlying the techniques, the limitations, the measurement sites and their individual features are considered. For devices, the information listed are their approval condition (FDA Approval and/or CE Mark),the techniques adapted the manufacturer and the information available about the device on the internet. From what we reviewed, although some promising techniques and devices are already available, further efforts are still required to reach a satisfactory solution to the non-invasive glucose measurement problem.

PURPOSE Anti-cancer drug treatment induces cell death by apoptosis, whether the gene p53 undergoes mutant changes is found to have a close relationship with anti-cancer drugs. The aim of this work is to investigate the role that p53 plays in the 5-FU-induced apoptosis of colorectal cancer cells in vitro. METHODS Thirty-nine col-orectal cancer samples from patients were treated with 5-FU (10?g/ml) and folinic acid (5?g/ml. 10?g/ml) in vitro, using the in situ Terminal Deoxynucleotidyl Transferase assay (TDT) to detect the chemosensitivity. p53 mutations from tumor DNA were detected, after amplication by PCR of exons 5 to 8. by non-radioactive single-strand conformation polymorphism(PCR-SSCP). RESULTS p53-gene mutations were observed in 43. 6% (17/39) of colorectal carcinomas. When TDT assay was used to detect the tumor apoptotic rate, cells with mutated p53 had less chemosensitivity than those without (16. 4% ?4. 89% vs 26. 6%? 6. 80% P

Chinese Medical Equipment Journal 1989;0(02):-
This paper introduces a novel animal behavior monitoring system, in which a acoustooptic shielded room, computer multimedia technology, image acquisition technology, signal analysis technology are involved. This system can implement long-term non-interference automatic monitoring of the experimental animal with features of accurate recording, complete and objective analysis, and convenient and effective statistics. Applied widely to the animal model for post -traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the system is designed to be used for other biomedical studies.

International Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2010;32(4):314-315
Objective To evaluate the effects of Qihuangyishen decoction on chronic renal failure. Methods A total of 122 patients with chronic renal failure were randomly recruited into a treatment group and a control group. On the basis of conventional therapy, the treatment group was treated with Qihuangyishen decoction while the control group was treated with coated aldehyde oxystarch. Blood routine results, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and endogenous creatinine clearance rate were observed before and after the treatment in both groups. Results The total effective rate was 82.5% and 67.8% in the treatment group and the control group respectively, the difference showing statistical significance (χ2=16.258, P<0.01 ) , Conclusion Qihuangyishen decoction was effective in treating chronic renal failure.

Surgical treatment of colon cancer is the first choice in the therapy stages, supplemented with systemicor local radiotherapy and chemotherapy. With the developement of molecular biology, there has been a variety of treatment program, some of these methods have been accepted in clinical testing stage. But the safety of the treatment on colon cancer is still a hot topic.

Chinese Journal of Postgraduates of Medicine 2010;33(1):27-29
Objective To investigate the changes of heart function after pacing in right ventricular inlet septum(RVIS) and right ventricular apex(RVA). Methods VVI pacing was performed in 64 patients who were randomly divided into two groups: RVIS group (33 patients) and RVA group (31 patients). The changes of serum brain natriuretic peptide (BNP),pacing parameters and QRS interval were assessed in 24 hours, 3 months and 1 year after the ventricle was paced effectively. Results When the ventricle was paced effectively, the pacing parameters, including voltage threshold and electrode impedance were similar in different stages between the two groups. In 24 hours, 3 months and 1 year after the ventricle was paced effectively, the QRS interval in RVIS group were obviously narrower than those in RVA group [( 128.0±28.6 ) ms vs ( 150.0 ± 37.1 ) ms, ( 131.0±21.5 ) ms vs ( 153.0 ±28.5 ) ms, ( 130.0 ±19.7 ) ms vs ( 155.0±20.2) ms, P < 0.05 ]. After treatment, the level of serum BNP increased significantly in two groups. The BNP level in R VIS group was significantly lower than that in RVA group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The R VIS pacing is not only as safe and effective as RVA pacing, but also is more consistent with the physiological ventricular activation sequence.

Objective To establish the model and software for quality assessment of fetal nuchal translucency ultrasound image using computer image recognition technology. Methods The proposed approach firstly divided the input image into four sub-image blocks:the nasal bone(NB) area, the nuchal translucency (NT) area, the midbrain area, and the jaw and chest area. For each sub-image block, the algorithm compared the image block with the corresponding area of the standard training image set,and then determined whether the current image block was the qualified one using the the Gabor feature and Bayesian decision. The input ultrasound image was determined to be qualified only if it had four qualified sub-image blocks. Results The difference between our automatic method and the manual screening by experts wasting small, the method obtained Kappa =0.795 and P <0.001.Moreover,the efficiency of our method was much higher than the manual screening method. Conclusions Image recognition technology can effectively assist the sonographer to assess the quality of fetal NT of ultrasound image. The proposed approach can reduce the subjectivity and randomness of the manual evaluation of NT image.

AIM: To detect surface electromyogram (EMG) signal accurately.METHODS: How to reduce noise in the detection of surface EMG signal was discussed. It has been explored to design an electrode unit by using methods of differential amplification, active electrode, filter and so on , andto investigate the electrode shape and the right placing method.RESULTS: The instrumentation amplifier AD620 was adopted to design a bipolar active electrode, which has been successfully used in the surface EMG detection.CONCLUSION: Experiments show that using active electrode can improve ratio of signal and noise, reduce noise and detect surface EMG signal effectively.

Objective To investigate the target effect of cytosine deaminase genetherapy combined thermochemotherapy on liver metastasis of colon cancer in nude mice. Methods Plasmid G1CEACDNa were transferred into the human colon cancer LoVo cells by liposomes method. The models of liver metastasis of colon cancer were established by injected LoVo-CEACD into peritonum in 45 BALB/C nude mice, then which were randomly divided into three groups:The control(C)group;the prodrug therapy(PDT)group and the prodrug thermochemotherapy(PDTCT group)and 42 ℃ sodium chloride,38 ℃ 5-FC and 42 ℃ 5-FC were injected into the abdominal cavity [500 mg/(kg?d),for 21 d],respectively. After natural death of all mice, their life span, rate of liver metastasis and number of liver metastasis nodules were surveyed and compared among the three groups. The levels of the expression of target gene were detected by RT-PCR in carcinoma tissue, normal liver, stomach, lung, pancreas, small intestine and large intestine tissues.Pathological features were observed.Apoptotic index(AI)of tumor cells were analyzed in every group respectively. Results The CD gene was detected in the tumor tissues, but not in tissues of normal liver, stomach, lung, pancreas, small intestine and large intestine. In C,PDT and PDTCT group, the life span was(25.80?3.65),(34.27?4.08)and(41.87?3.91)d respectively;the rate of liver metastasis was 100.0%(15/15),40.0%(6/15)and 13.3%(2/15),respectively;the number of liver metastasis nodules was(2.93?1.16),(0.80?1.01)and(0.20?0.56),respectively;and AI of tumor cells was 4.59%,9.87%,17.4%,respectively.The life span of PDT and PDTCT guoup was significantly longer than that of group(P
