Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2006;0(01):-
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the vali-dity and reliability of the outoral surface electrodes. METHODS The outoral surface electrodes were used to record the EMG activity of mandible muscles in 10 male OSAHS patients. The changes of EMG activity were observed among different sleep stages, during the apnea events, and which were compared with that recorded with intraoral surface electrodes from other researchers in our sleep center. The EMG activity was recorded again 7 days later with outoral surface electrodes in those 10 patients. RESULTS The characteristics of mandible muscular electrical activity in OSAHS patients by outoral surface electrodes were consistent to the characteristics of genioglossal electrical activity by intraoral surface electrodes. EMG activity was consistent between the 2 times recording results. CONCLUSION It is valid and reliable in measuring the EMG activity of mandible muscles by using outoral surface electrodes.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome on the quality of life of the patients. METHODS The quality of life was assessed with the Medical Outcomes Study SF-36 Health Survey in 145 patients with OSAHS and 17 snorers without OSAHS. Excessive Daytime Sleepiness was assessed with Epworth Sleepiness Scale. Pearson linear correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used to study the association between each domain score of SF-36 and patients information,PSG parameters,EDS scores. RESULTS Three domains of SF-36 correlated negatively with Body Mass Index. Four domains correlated negatively with EDS. Three domains and total score correlated significantly with the lowest oxygen saturation. Two domains correlated negatively with the longest time of apnea. AHI and the lowest oxygen saturation have a mild side effect on the quality of life. BMI and EDS score have significantly side effect on the quality of the life. CONCLUSION Comparing to the mild OSAHS patients and snorers without OSAHS,the severe OSAHS patients have worse quality of life. EDS score and BMI have a significantly side effect on the severe OSAHS patients. OSAHS has a side effect on the quality of life of the patients.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of dual source CT angiography (DSCTA) for coronary artery stenosis. Methods During the period from November 2012 to November 2013, a total of 210 patients with coronary artery disease underwent DSCTA and selective coronary arteriography (CAG). Taking CAG as the gold standard, the diagnostic accuracy of DSCTA for coronary artery stenosis was evaluated. Thirty patients receiving DSCTA and 30 patients receiving CAG were selected, and all of them underwent stent implantation in the anterior descending branch after imaging examination. The angiography positions, the used time of PCI and the used dosage of contrast agent were compared between the two groups. Results DSCTA was performed in 210 patients and a total of 2 630 segments of coronary stenosis or occlusion were detected. Compared with CAG, the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of DSCTA were 95.4%, 96.2%, 91.3%and 100%respectively, which were not significantly different from those obtained by CAG (P=0.066). In performing DSCTA, 2-3 angiography positions were used (2-4 positions less than that of CAG), the used time of PCI was about 15 min (about 10 min less than that of CAG), and the mean used dosage of contrast agent was 48 ml (30-150 ml) (about half less than that of CAG). Conclusion DSCTA has higher accuracy in diagnosing coronary artery stenosis, quite similar to that of CAG. DSCTA is a safe, reliable and noninvasive examination method. Preoperative DSCTA can reduce exposure positions during angiography, can reduce the dosage of contrast agent, and can shorten the time of PCI as well, thus, iatrogenic radioactive radiation dose can be reduced.

0 05); Flatus, time to resume early activity and hospital stay in laparoscopic group were 2 24?0 56、 3 94?1 64、 13 94?6 5 days respectively, which was significantly shorter than those in open group ( P 0 05) The mean follow up time of the two groups were 23 15?7 95 and 22 19?7 46 months, respectively Local recurrence rate, metachronous metastases rate and cumulative survival probability at 36 months were similar for the two groups Conclusion These results suggest that laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for colon cancer can be performed safely, effectively and economically with the advantages of minimal invasiveness

It is necessary to monitor intraoperative spinal function in order to prevent spinal neurological deficit during spine surgery. This study aims to extract characteristic electrophysiological monitoring parameters during surgical treatment of scoliosis. The problem, "the monitoring parameters in time domain are of great variability and are sensitive to noise", may also be solved in this study. By use of continuous wavelet transform to analyze the intraoperative cortical somatosensory evoked potential (CSEP), three new characteristic monitoring parameters in time-frequency domain (TFD) are extracted. The results indicate that the variability of CSEP characteristic parameters in TFD is lower than the variability of those in time domain. Therefore, the TFD characteristic monitoring parameters are more stable and reliable parameters of latency and amplitude in time domain. The application of TFD monitoring parameters during spine surgery may avoid spinal injury effectively.

Chinese Medical Journal 2014;127(9):1744-1748
BACKGROUNDLead exposure during pregnancy contributes to fetal abortion and/or teratogenesis. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) apoptosis can be induced by various pathological conditions when ER function is disturbed. However, it is unclear whether ER stress and apoptosis play a role in the etiology of lead-exposed disease status. We aimed to investigate whether lead induced placental apoptosis and subsequent toxicity is initiated by ER apoptosis via caspase-12.
METHODSSixty-three female Wistar rats were exposed to lead in drinking water during various gestational periods. Blood lead level was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Placental cytoplasmic organelles were examined by electronic microscopy. Placental caspase-12 mRNA expression was evaluated by qRT-PCR. TUNEL assay was used to determine the placental apoptosis.
RESULTSLead exposure significant induced ER apoptosis compared to that of the controls (P < 0.05), accompanied with increased caspase-12 mRNA expression. Significant differences of caspase-12 mRNA expression levels were observed among the four groups (F = 13.78, P < 0.05). Apoptotic index (AI) was significantly increased in experimental groups compared to that of the controls (F = 96.15, P < 0.05). In lead-exposed groups, trophoblast cells underwent degeneration and fibrin deposition; Mitochondria were swollen and decreased in number; ER swelling, expansion, and vacuolization were observed.
CONCLUSIONLead exposure contributes to placental apoptosis, as well as increased caspase-12 mRNA expression, which in turn promoted ER stress.
