Adiponectin is one of the cytokines secreted by fat cells. It has a variety of physiological functions, including anti-inflammation,anti-atherosclerosis,anti-diabetes,and anti-obesity,etc.Studies in recent years have demonstrated that there are certain correlations of adiponectin with vascular risk factors and cerebrovascular disease.

International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2009;17(1):45-47
So far, the method of detection of patent foramen ovale (PFO) by transcranial Doppler (TCD) has had two decades of history. Standardization in contrast-enhanced transcranial Doppler US procedures for cardiac right-to-left shunt detection was proposed in the Venice Consensus Paper in 1999, and some questions were raised at the same time. Over the past 10 years, the researchers have conducted a more in depth study on the method. This article reviews the related research progress.

Objective To study the associations between neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NACT)sensitivity and expression of relative proliferation and apoptosis genes in cervical cancer tissues. Furthermore, the potential roles of relative genes expression as monitor in the chemotherapy against cervical cancer tissues were studied. Methods Fifteen pathologically proved Ⅱ A stage cervical cancer patients with HPV 16 positive were divided into effective group and non-effective group according to the clinical response to NACT, the changes of HPV16-E6, p53 genes and proteins expressions were measured by real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot. At the same time, MTT assay was used to detected proliferative activity to paclitaxel liposome and carboplatin (paraplatin) in HeLa cells. Results In effective group, the overall response rate was 73.3 % (11/15) and the HPV16-E6 mRNA and protein level after NACT was significantly decreased than that before NACT (t=3.359, t=3.614, P<0.05), while p53mRNA and protein level increased significantly (t =5.852, t=2.838, P <0.05). However, there have no significant different between pre-NACT and Post-NACT of the two genes in the non-effective group. After using chemotherapy HeLa cells growth decreased. Conclusion HPV16-E6 and p53 expreesion level are useful paraneters in evaluating NACT response in cervical cancer tissues. The detection of the two genes expression is a method for predicting efficacy in NACT.

AIM To assess the pharmacokinetic profile of single doses of meloxicam in healthy Chinese volunteers. METHODS The plasma concentrations of meloxicam after an oral dose of 15 mg to twenty healthy male volunteers were analized by means of a validated HPLC method. The pharmacokinetic parameters were subjected to Shapiro-Wilk test to determine whether these data were fitted to a normal distribution. RESULTS The twenty volunteers can be classified into extensive metabolizers and poor metabolizers according to pharmacokinetic parameters. The main parameters in the two groups obtained were as follows: T1/2 were 21±4 and 38±9 h, AUC0-∞ were 49±10 and 110±8 μg*h*mL-1, respectively. Even the AUC data in extensive metabolizers were 1.7 times as that reported in White volunteers following the same doses of meloxicam. CONCLUSION There were significant individual differences in the pharmacokinetics of meloxicam in Chinese volunteers, which may be due to the genetic polymorphism of CYP2C9.

A novel silica monolithic stationary phase functionalized with butylaminopropyl ligands for capillary electrochromatography(CEC) has been presented. The monolithic capillary columns were prepared by a sol-gel) process and subsequent a chemical modification. The amino groups on the surface of the stationary phase are meant to generate a substantial anodic electroosmotic flow (EOF). The butyl and propyl groups provide) hydrophobic properties. To evaluate the column performance, effects of buffer pH and organic modifier content on the EOF and electrochromatographic retention behavior of alkylbenzenes, organic acids and anilines were investigated. The monolithic stationary phase exhibited reversed phase (RP) chromatographic behavior toward neutral solutes. The model organic acid anion solutes were separated by the mixed mode mechanism, which comprised RP interaction, weak anion-exchange, and electrophoresis. Basic compounds such as anilines) were well separated on the butylaminopropyl silica monolithic column without peak tailing.

This paper explored the multi-angle, comprehensive and systematic clinical prac-tice teaching system for international students. Six teaching methods were integrated: bedside teach-ing, standardized patients teaching, electronic patients clinic teaching, Chinese students one-to-one help foreign students, a variety of English clinic small presentation and many after-school social activi-ties. The multi-angle, comprehensive and systematic clinical practice teaching system was evidently a better choice than traditional teaching system for international students.

Objective To understand the status of human resources for AIDS control at city and county level in Hebei Province, and to improve the outfit of human resources. Methods General investigation and self-designed questionnaire were used by the trained investigators.Epi Data 3.0 was used to establish a database, and SPSS 13.0 was used to analyze the data. Results There were 1 347 missionaries at the city and county level,547 of whom were full-time staff.Significant differences existed in academic qualifications and titles between city and county level.A lack in technical staff in county level appeared. Conclusions The number of staff for HIV control in Hebei is not sufficient. Therefore human resources in these places should be strengthened and rationally allocated for AIDS control.

Objective To compare 3 kinds of preoperative scoring systems used to predict 30-day mortality in a hip fracture population,Physiological and Operative Severity Score for Enumeration of Mortality and Morbidity (POSSUM),Portsmouth modified POSSUM (P-POSSUM) and Estimation of Physiologic Ability and Surgical Stress (E-PASS).Methods A retrospective study was conducted to analyze the aged 654 patients who had undergone surgery for femoral intertrochanteric fracture or femoral neck fracture from January 2010 through June 2014 at our hospital. They were 225 men and 429 women,60 to 103 years of age (average,71.7 years). There were 363 femoral intertrochanteric fractures and 291 femoral neck fractures.Closed reduction and intramedullary nailing was performed in 363 cases, artificial dipolar replacement in 242 cases, and total hip replacement in 49 cases.POSSUM,P-POSSUM and E-PASS scoring systems were used to predict the 30-day mortality. The discrepancy between the predictive risk and the actual observation was analyzed. Results Of the 654 patients,25 died within 30 days after operation.According to POSSUM scoring system, the predictability (observed deaths/POSSUM deaths) was 0.30,showing a significant difference between the predictive deaths and the actual deaths(x2=34.840,P=0.009).According to P-POSSUM and E-PASS scoring systems, the predictability was respectively 0.83 and 1.04,demonstrating no significant differences between the predictive deaths and the actual deaths(P > 0.05).Conclusion P-POSSUM and E-PASS scoring systems may predict 30-day mortality more accurately than POSSUM scoring system in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery.

Rat models with common peroneal nerve injury were treated with modified Decoction for Invigorating Yang orally to observe its effect on the nervous functional recovery after peripheral nerve injury. The result showed that the motor nerve conduction velocity of the drug group during the whole observation period was higher than that of the control group (p
