Albino rats fed on crops from endemic and non-endemic districts of Ke-shan desease, were used in this experiment, which was studied by 85Zn tracer metabolic method after 8 weeks feeding. Uptake of 85Zn (ZnCl2) by blood, heart, liver, kidneys and brown adipose tissue were determined at 24 and 72 hours after injection of this tracer respectively, and its distribution was thoroughly examined. The results revealed that the uptake of 8aZn was higher in the groups fed on crops from endemic districts, particularly significant in liver, kidneys and brown adipose tissue. This may reflect the lacking or deficiency of zinc in the bodies. The regular differences of 85Zn between two groups were certainly related to the crops produced from endemic or aon-endemic districts. In other words, there should be some differences between crops from endemic and non-endemic areas. Thus more attention should be paid to the factors in endemic crops, which induced lacking or deficiency of zinc in the experimental animal and to its relationship with etiology of Keshan disease.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2001;0(01):-
Objective To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of imprint cytology for intracranial tumors during operation. Methods 150 cases of intracranial tumors were diagnosed by imprint cytology. The imprint was prepared by touching the specimens several times with clean slide, and then the slides were fixed and stained with HE. The diagnostic results obtained by imprint cytology were compared with those made by frozen and routine paraffin sections. Results The accurant rates of diagnosing for non-glial tumors, classifying for incracranial tumors and grading for glial tumors were 100%, 91.3% and 88.3%, respectively. In addition, the morphological features of glial tumors, meningioma, pituitary adenoma on imprint cytology were briefly described. Conclusion The accurant rate of imprint cytology is almost equal to that of frozen section, and both the detection methods have a supplementary effect to each other.

Observations were conducted on 11 kinds of tissues and organs(brown adipose tissue, thymus gland, blood, heart, lungs, muscle, bone, kidneys, spleen, liver, and intestine) in experimental animals, which were fed on crops from endemic areas of Keshan disease and non-endemic areas for 8-13 weeks. The absorption and distribution of 75Se (Na2 SeO3) in above tissue and organs were studied. Results revealed that the absorption of Na2-SeO3 in experimental group fed on crops from endemic area was higher than control group fed on crops from non-endemic area. The gradient of distribution of 75Se in various organs was regular: The highest absorption was in kidneys, the lesser was in liver, spleen and thyrnus, the least was in muscle, heart and bones. In one week observation, the contents of 75Se changed as time passed, but the fluctuating changes of the two groups were different. The regular differences of 75Se absorption as above, revealed a distinction between endemic and non-endemic crops. Under the influences of the crops on experimental animals, there appeared more or less a condition of selenium deficiency, which proved that the soil-water-food chain had apparently influenced the selenium metabolism of the organisms.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of tetrandrine (Tet) on nuclear factor kappaB (NF-kappaB) expression in leukemia cell line K562 and multidrug-resistant K562/A02 cell line. METHODS: The activations of NF-kappaB in K562 and K562/A02 cells and the effects of 1 micromol/L Tet on NF-kappaB expression were determined by immunocytochemistry and Western blot assay. RESULTS: Tet had no effect on NF-kappaB expression in K562 cells after 6- and 12-hour treatment (P>0.05), and K562/A02 cells displayed higher level of NF-kappaB protein expression than their parental K562 cells (P<0.01). Tet could significantly down-regulate NF-kappaB protein expression and nuclear translocation in K562/A02 cells shown by immunocytochemistry and Western blot, and this decrease became more significant after 12-hour treatment than after at 6-hour treatment (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Activation of NF-kappaB may be related to multidrug resistance of K562/A02 cell line. And the inhibition of NF-kappaB activation by Tet leads to multidrug resistance reversal in K562/A02 cell line.

Objective:To investigate the effects of enteral nutrition on the incidence of treatment complications, results from nutritional indexes and proportions of immune cell subsets in elderly patients with esophageal carcinoma during concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Methods:From January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020, 108 elderly patients(≥60 years)undergone concurrent chemoradiotherapy for esophageal carcinoma at Quanzhou First Hospital and eligible for inclusion were enrolled in the case-control study. They were randomly divided into the study group(enteral nutrition group)and the control group(normal diet group), with 54 cases in each group. The incidence of complications, results from nutritional indexes and immune cell subsets of the two groups were analyzed according to data type. Results:The incidence of bone marrow suppression(Grade Ⅰ-Ⅱ)in the study group(37.0%)was significantly lower than that in the control group(63.0%)( χ2=7.259, P<0.01). The incidence of bone marrow suppression(Grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ)in the study group(11.1%)was significantly lower than that in the control group(27.8%)( χ2=4.788, P<0.05). The levels of hemoglobin, total serum protein and albumin were(121.36±11.63)g/L, (73.78±7.79)g/L and(40.95±3.52)g/L in the study group and(106.45±10.85)g/L, (63.12±8.35)g/L and(35.54±4.12)g/L in the control group, respectively, after 4 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy( P<0.05). The proportions of CD3+ and CD4+ were(64.15±5.84)% and(48.64±4.28)% in the study group and(59.25±6.27)% and(45.27±4.52)% in the control group, respectively, after 4 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy( P<0.05). The proportion of CD8+ was(26.93±3.63)% in the study group and(30.35±3.36)% in the control group after 4 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy( P<0.05). Conclusions:During concurrent chemoradiotherapy for elderly patients with esophageal carcinoma, enteral nutrition with adjustment based on patient's food intake can reduce patients' nutritional risk and modulate the proportion of immune cell subsets, thus reducing the occurrence of bone marrow suppression.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2009;29(4):760-762
OBJECTIVETo analyze characteristic CT enhancement patterns of noncalcified pulmonary tuberculomas and their pathological basis.
METHODFifty-six patients with noncalcified pulmonary tuberculomas underwent surgical resection of the tuberculomas. Enhanced CT images of these tuberculomas were reviewed and analyzed in relation to the histological findings.
RESULTSOf the 56 patients, 45 showed no enhancement in the tuberculomas, which were histologically characterized by central caseous necrosis and a poorly vascularized peripheral fibrotic zone. Eleven patients showed ring-like or eggshell enhancement, and the central low density region was histologically confirmed to be caused by caseous or liquefied necrosis, while the ring enhancement resulted pathologically from moderately or well vascularized peripheral fibrotic or granulomatous tissues.
CONCLUSIONSPulmonary tuberculomas consists mainly of caseous necrotic tissues characterized by no enhancement and ring or eggshell enhancement on dynamic contrast-enhanced CT.

Objective: To analyze and compare therapy responses, outcomes, and incidence of severe hematologic adverse events of flumatinib and imatinib in patients newly diagnosed with chronic phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) . Methods: Data of patients with chronic phase CML diagnosed between January 2006 and November 2022 from 76 centers, aged ≥18 years, and received initial flumatinib or imatinib therapy within 6 months after diagnosis in China were retrospectively interrogated. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed to reduce the bias of the initial TKI selection, and the therapy responses and outcomes of patients receiving initial flumatinib or imatinib therapy were compared. Results: A total of 4 833 adult patients with CML receiving initial imatinib (n=4 380) or flumatinib (n=453) therapy were included in the study. In the imatinib cohort, the median follow-up time was 54 [interquartile range (IQR), 31-85] months, and the 7-year cumulative incidences of CCyR, MMR, MR(4), and MR(4.5) were 95.2%, 88.4%, 78.3%, and 63.0%, respectively. The 7-year FFS, PFS, and OS rates were 71.8%, 93.0%, and 96.9%, respectively. With the median follow-up of 18 (IQR, 13-25) months in the flumatinib cohort, the 2-year cumulative incidences of CCyR, MMR, MR(4), and MR(4.5) were 95.4%, 86.5%, 58.4%, and 46.6%, respectively. The 2-year FFS, PFS, and OS rates were 80.1%, 95.0%, and 99.5%, respectively. The PSM analysis indicated that patients receiving initial flumatinib therapy had significantly higher cumulative incidences of CCyR, MMR, MR(4), and MR(4.5) and higher probabilities of FFS than those receiving the initial imatinib therapy (all P<0.001), whereas the PFS (P=0.230) and OS (P=0.268) were comparable between the two cohorts. The incidence of severe hematologic adverse events (grade≥Ⅲ) was comparable in the two cohorts. Conclusion: Patients receiving initial flumatinib therapy had higher cumulative incidences of therapy responses and higher probability of FFS than those receiving initial imatinib therapy, whereas the incidence of severe hematologic adverse events was comparable between the two cohorts.
