Objective To investigate the value of preoperative total abdominal spiral CT scan in evaluating the staging of ovarian cancer.Methods Clinical data of 42 patients with ovarian cancer undergoing total abdominal spiral CT were collected.The CT images were retrospectively analyzed,and the CT staging and surgical pathologic staging were compared.Results Multi-slice spiral CT on ovarian cancer invasion and metastasis has high accuracy of diagnosis.The diagnostic accuracy of this group for direct tumor invasion,peritoneal metastasis,lymph node metastasis and ascites was 66％-100％.The correct preoperative staging were 34 cases:6 cases in stage I,6 cases in stage Ⅱ,17 cases in stage Ⅲ,5 cases in stage Ⅳ,and the staging accuracy of 80.9％.Conclusion Total abdominal multi-slice spiral CT examination is of great value in preoperative staging of ovarian cancer.

AIM: To evaluate the safety, efficacy and stability of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens ( ICL ) implanation and clear lens extraction for the correction of high myopia.
METHODS: The study enrolled 56 cases ( 100 eyes ) of high myopia. Group I comprised 32 cases ( 58 eyes ) receiving ICL implantation and Group II comprised 24 cases (42 eyes) undergoing clear lens extraction. In this study, we evaluated the two groups of subject's the visual and refractive results, intraocular pressure ( IOP ) , endothelial cell density ( ECD ) , anterior chamber depth ( ACD) , lens transparency, the surgical complications as well as visual adverse symptoms before and after surgery.
RESULTS: The postoperative subjects in group I and group II were followed, uncorrected vision acuity ( UCVA)>0. 5 were 69. 0% in group I and 71. 4% in group II after 3mo. UCVA>0. 5 were 72. 4% in group I and 73. 8% in group II after 1a. Predictability of the manifest spherical equivalent refraction within±1. 00D was achieved in 62. 1%of eyes in group I and 57. 1% in group II after 1a. The central vault of the ICL ( distance from posterior surface of ICL to the crystalline lens ) measured with anterior segment optical coherence tomography ( AS-OCT ) was 0. 35-0. 54 (0. 40±0. 16) mm. Twelve point one percent of eyes in group I and 7. 1% of eyes in group II had transient mild increase in IOP. Here were statistically significant differences between preoperative and postoperative ECD (P<0. 001 ). Complications of surgery: 1 eye had ICL spontaneous rotation, 2 eyes had anterior subcapsular cataract, 4 eyes noticed halos around lights at night in group I. Three eyes had posterior capsule mild opacification, 3 eyes noticed halos around lights at night, 12 eyes had difficulty in near vision in group II.
CONCLUSION: ICL implantation and clear lens extraction are effective, safe and predictable surgical option for the management of high myopia. No severe complications occurred, but its long time effect and safety still need more time to prove.

Objective To investigate the mRNA expression of IKB kinase (IKK-α) and interferon-α (IFN-α) in the peripheral blood leukocytes of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and to explore the role of IKK-α in the production of IFN-α in SLE patients. Methods SYBR green dye I based real-time quantitative PCR was used to detect the mRNA expression levels of IKK-α and IFN-α in the peripheral blood leucocytes of SLE patients and healthy controls. Serum levels of IFN-α were measured with ELISA method. Results IKK-α mRNA expression levels in SLE patients were significantly higher than those of normal controls (P<0.05). IKK-α mRNA expression levels in SLE patients with active disease were significantly higher than patients with stable disease (P<0.01). IFN-α mRNA expression level in SLE patients was significantly lower than that of the normal controls (P<0.01). IFN-α mRNA expression levels in SLE patients with active disease were significantly higher than patients with stable disease (P<0.01). Serum levels of IFN-α in SLE patients with active disease was significantly higher than that of the normal controls and patients with stable disease (P<0.05). The anti-dsDNA antibody correlated positively, and complement C3 correlated negatively with serum concentration of IFN-α. IKK-α mRNA expression levels in SLE patients correlated positively with serum concentration of IFN-α. Conclusion IKK-α correlates positively with serum concentration of IFN-α. The IFN-α level is significantly correlated with disease activity, This suggests that IKK-α may play an important role in the pathogenesis of SLE.

Objective To examine the difference of neurological soft signs (NSS) among the remittent schizophrenia patients,first-degree non-psychotic relatives of schizophrenia patients and healthy controls.Methods The Cambridge Neurological Inventory (CNI) (the Chinese version) was administered to 86 remittent schizophrenia patients (patient group),86 first-degree non-psychotic relatives of schizophrenia patients (relative group) and 86 healthy controls (control group).Results Compared with relative group,NSS total-score,the subscore of motor coordination and sensory integration were significantly higher in patient group (P＜0.01).Compared with control group,NSS total-score,the subscore of motor coordination and sensory integration were significantly higher in patient group (P＜0.01).Compared with control group,NSS total-score and the subscore of motor coordination were significantly higher in relative group (P＜0.01).Conclusions The levels of NSS in remittent schizophrenia patients and their first-degree non-psychotic relatives are higher than normal control,and the patients have more NSS than their relatives.The motor coordination nay be a potential endophenotype for schizophrenia.

AIM: Construction of an eukaryote- E. coli shuttle expressing recombinant plasmid which expresses OmpL1 envelope protein of pathogenic Leptospira, serovar Lai strain 017. METHODS: The OmpL 1 gene was amplified by PCR from the leptospiral genome. Then it was cut with restriction enzymes and ligated to the plasmid pBK-CMV. The correct recombinant plasmid was screened out with analysis of restriction enzymes and PCR. After inducing the E. coli baring recombinant plasmid with IPTG,the complete protein of the bacteria was extracted for SDS-PAGE. At the same time, OD600 of the host bacteria was examined at different time after inducing or uninducing with IPTG. RESULTS: Five strains E. coli containing proper recombinant plasmids were screened out. Four strains E. coli expressed a new protein with a weight of 37 kD among them. With the expression of the heterogenous protein,the OD600 of the host bacteria decreased. CONCLUSION: The shuttle expressing plasmid of the OmpL 1 gene of strong virulent Leptospira strain 017 was successfully constructed. Furthermore,the recombinant plasmid expressed the expected OmpL 1 fusion protein in E. coli and the expression of the heterogenous protein had toxic effect on the host bacteria. This work was important for the future research of OmpL1 protein which relates to the diagnosis,new vaccine preparing and the pathogenic mechanism of leptospirosis.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and survival analysis of T-cell lymphoma with hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS).Methods The clinical features,laboratory tests and survival of 30 patients of T-cell lymphoma with HPS were analyzed comparing with 50 random patients of T-cell lymphoma without HPS (control group),and the data were obtained from department of hematology,Ruijin Hospital,Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine from January 2006 to December 2011.Results 30 cases of T-cell lymphoma with HPS manifested for high fever [100.00 ％ (30/30)],splenomegaly [96.67 ％ (29/30)],more than two-line reduction in blood cells [93.33 ％ (28/30)],bone marrow with bloodthirsty phenomenon [86.67 ％ (26/30)],LDH increased [100.00 ％ (30/30)],hypertriglyceridemia [46.67 ％ (14/30)],low fibrin hyperlipidemia [60.00 ％ (18/30)],ferritin increased [93.33 ％ (28/30)],liver damaged [86.67 ％ (26/30)] from patient group,which were higher than those of control group,the differences were statistically significant (x2 =23.11,22.50,36.05,64.20,21.82,5.31,16.54,26.82,46.43,all P ＜ 0.05).But the incidence of superficial lymph nodes enlargement was not high,only 33.33 ％,which made the diagnosis of primary disease difficult.Combined chemotherapy of CHOP or etoposide plus dexamethasone could make the symptoms and laboratory indicators improved,but the median survival time was only 20 days.Compared with the control group,there were significant differences on the survival curves (x2 =35.05,P ＜ 0.0001).Conclusion In T-cell lymphoma with HPS,the clinical manifestations are complex,usually with multi-organ dysfunction,aggressive course,and poor prognosis.The pathogenesis and treatment of HPS should be further studied.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the opioidergic mechanism of the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) for regulating sodium appetite in rats.

METHDOSUsing the elaborate invasive cerebral cannulation and brain microinjection method, we observed the effects of bilateral intra-CeA injections of DAMGO (a selective µ-opioid receptor agonist) and CTAP (a highly selective µ-opioid receptor antagonist), either alone or in combination, on NaCl solution (0.3 mol/L) and water intake by rats in different models of Naingestion.

RESULTSIn the two-bottle tests, bilateral injections of DAMGO at 1, 2, and 4 nmol into the CeA induced a dose-related increase of NaCl and water intake in rats treated with water deprivation with partial rehydration (WD-PR), and pretreatment with 0.5, 1, and 2 nmol CTAP injected into the CeA significantly suppressed DAMGO-induced NaCl and water intake in a dose-dependent manner: in the one-bottle tests, bilateral injections of DAMGO (2 noml) into the CeA had no effect on water intake of the rats. In rats with subcutaneous injection of furosemide (FURO) combined with captopril (CAP) (FURO+CAP), bilateral intra-CeA injections of DAMGO (2 nmol) caused increased NaCl and water intake in the two-bottle tests, but such effects were suppressed by pretreatment with CTAP injection into the CeA; in the one-bottle tests, bilateral intra-CeA injections of DAMGO had no effect on water intake of the rats.

CONCLUSIONµ-opioid receptors in the CeA are involved in the excitatory regulation of sodium appetite to mediate sodium intake. µ-opioid receptor antagonists are expected to be targets for developing inhibitors of sodium appetite.

AIMTo explore the effects of M3 receptor on myocyte apoptosis induced by acute myocardial infarction in rats.

METHODSRat model was induced by ligation of the anterior branch of the left coronary artery. All animals were divided into four groups: sham-operated group, occlusion group, choline group (10 mg x kg(-1), iv), and 4DAMP (4-diphenylacetoxy-N-methylpiperidine-methiodide) group (0.12 mg x kg(-1), iv). The serum malondialdehyde (MDA) content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were determined. The infarct size areas on the myocardium were identified by TTC staining. The apoptosis in cardiomyocyte was detected by TUNEL assay and apoptosis-related proteins in Bcl-2 and Fas expression were measured by immunohistochemistry assay.

RESULTSM3 receptor agonist choline reduced serum MDA content and increased SOD activity. The myocardial expression of Bcl-2 was increased, whereas the expression of Fas was decreased by choline. However, blockade of M3 receptor by 4DAMP completely inhibited these effects of choline on cardiac myocytes.

CONCLUSIONActivation of M3 receptor has protective effect on myocyte apoptosis induced by acute myocardial infarction in rat, and this effect might be related to modulating the expression of some immediateearly genes including Bcl-2 and Fas.
