Implant-related infection is a commonly occurred complication in orthopaedics. The surface modification methods frequently used for anti-infection of implant surface were minimizing bacteria adhesion, grafting antibacterial agents and improving osteointegration. The pathogenesis and characteristics of orthopaedic implant-related infection and the research advances in the surface modification of orthopaedic implants for anti-infection are described in this paper, providing a reference for the research of novel implants with anti-infection characteristics.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of allopurinol in the treatment of chronic kidney disease. Methods:The databases of Embase, PubMed and the Cochrane library were searched for randomized controlled trials of allopurinol in patients with chronic kidney disease. According to the Cochrane system evaluation method, two evaluators independently screened the literature and extracted the data, and analyzed the results with Revman 5.3 software. Results:Finally, 10 articles were included, including 940 patients (472 in the experimental group and 468 in the control group). Meta analysis showed that allopurinol treatment could reduce blood uric acid ( MD=-2.40, 95% CI: -2.74--2.05, P<0.01), 24-hour urinary protein ( MD=-0.61, 95% CI: -1.17--0.06, P=0.03) and increase estimation of glomerular filtration rate(eGFR) ( MD=2.51, 95% CI: 1.86-3.17, P<0.01). There was no significant difference in adverse events between the experimental group and the control group ( OR=1.40, 95% CI: 0.61-3.19, P=0.42), but allopurinol treatment could reduce the risk of cardiovascular events ( OR=0.58, 95% CI: 0.38-0.89, P=0.01). Conclusions:Allopurinol treatment of chronic kidney disease can reduce urinary protein, improve eGFR, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.

5.Effect of protein and anthraquinone glucosides from cassia seed on serum lipid of hyperlipidemia rats.
China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2002;27(5):374-376
OBJECTIVETo study the effect of protein and anthraquinone glucosides from cassia seed on serum lipid of hyperlipidemia rats.
METHODThe rat hyperlipidemia model was set up by ig lipid emulsion. The effects of the protein 0.25 and 1 mg.kg-1. d-1, the anthraquinone glucosides 5 and 20 mg.kg-1.d-1, and the protein 0.25 mg.kg-1.d-1 plus the anthracene glucosides 5 mg.kg-1.d-1 on total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein (HDL-C) in serum of the rats were determined.
RESULTThe protein 1 mg.kg-1.d-1, the anthraquinone glucosides 20 mg.kg-1.d-1 reduced the raised TC, TG, LDL-C of hyperlipidemia rats (P < 0.05). The above indexes could also be reduced by the protein 0.25 mg.kg-1.d-1 plus the anthraquinone glucosides 5 mg.kg-1.d-1(P < 0.05, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONProtein and anthraquinone glucosides from cassia seed can lower TC, TG, LDL-C of hyperlipidemia rats.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2016;36(6):824-828
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effects a lithium chloride-doped calcium phosphate cement (Li/CPC) on promoting tibial defect repair in rats.
METHODSTwenty 6-month-old female SD rats randomized into Li/CPC (n=10) and CPC control (n=10) groups. Surgery was performed to create bone defects at the bilateral tibia, which were filled with either of the cement. Five rats from each group were sacrificed at 1 and 2 months after the surgery for micro-CT examination and HE staining of the tibia.
RESULTSMicro-CT showed better repair of bone defects in Li/CPC group, which had a significantly higher new bone volume fraction (BV/TV) and a lower trabecular separation/spacing (Tb.Sp) than the control group (P<0.05). HE staining showed an earlier appearance of fiber and osteoid callus in Li/CPC group than CPC control group. The number and quality of bone healing was significantly higher in Li/CPC group than in CPC group.
CONCLUSIONLi/CPC possessed better osteoinductivity and can significantly promote bone defect repair in rats.

Aim To investigate the curative effects of resveratrol on OVA induced allergic rhinitis in mice and the underlying immune mechanisms. Methods Balb/c mice (female, 6 weeks) were divided randomly into normal control ( NC) group, allergic rhinitis (AR) group, high dose resveratrol treatment group (RH), low dose resveratrol treatment group (RL), and dexamethasone treatment group ( Dex). RL, RH and Dex group were oral administered with resveratrol 30 mg • kg"1, resveratrol 100 mg • kg"1 and dexamethasone 10 mg • kg"1, respectively. After the treat-ment , the sneezing and nasal rubbing behaviors of mice in all the group were recorded and HE was performed to assess the inflammatory cell infiltration in nasal tissues. The sera levels of allergic cytokines were determined with ELISA assay. The percentage of CD4+ GA- TA3 + T cells in spleen of each group was further recorded by flow cytometry. Results Compared with AR group, treatment with resveratrol (100 mg - kg"1) reduced the sneezing and nasal rubbing behaviors signifi-cantly and improved inflammatory cell infiltration in nasal tissues. The up-regulated sera levels of IL-4, IL- 13 and OVA-sIgE in AR group were reversed by RH, and ratios CD4+ GATA3 + Th2 cells in spleen of RH were also down-regulated parallelly. Conclusions RH treatment could improve the allergic related symptoms of OVA-induced allergic rhinitis, which is associated with down-regulated sera levels of IL-4, IL-13 and OVA-sIgE and ratios of CD4+ GATA3 + Th2 cells in spleen of mouse model.
