OBJECTIVETo explore the auricular point specificity of the electric determination in stroke so as to provide the evidence for the objective study on the auricular point diagnosis in stroke.

METHODSThirty patients of stroke were selected in an observation group; 30 patients of non-stroke internal medicine disorder were in a control group A; 30 persons of healthy examination were in a control group B. In the observation group.and the control group A, beside the conventional treatment, acupuncture was applied to all the cases. In the observation group, Jianyu (LI 15), Quchi (LI 11), Shousanili (LI 10), Hegu (LI 4), Waiguan (TE 5), Liangqiu (ST 34), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taichong (LR 3) were selected on the affected side. In the control group A, Yin-tang (GV 29), Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Fengfu (GV 16), Dazhui (GV 14), Fengchi (GB 20), Tianzhu (BL 10), Jiaji (EX-B 2) C4-C7 were selected. Acupuncture was given once a day in the two groups. The; treatment of one week made one session, and continuously 2 sessions were required. In the control group B, the convention physical examination was provided without any medication and acupuncture involved. The CLRH-A auricular point detector was used to detect the entire auricular point area in the subjects and the positive reaction sites of auricular points in the subjects of each group before and after treatment separately. The auricular point positive detecting score and positive point frequency were observed in the subjects.

RESULTSBefore treatment, the auricular points detecting score in the observation group was obviously higher than that in the control group A and control group B (both P<0. 05). The difference in the score between the control groups was not significant in' comparison (P>0. 05). In two weeks of treatment, the auricular points detecting score in the observation group was reduced apparently (P<0. 05). The difference was not significant before and after treatment in either the control grolip A or the control group B (both P>0.05). In the observation group, the first 15 points with high frequencies of positive reaction were naogan (AT3,4i), pizhixia (AT4), e (AT1), xin (CO15), gan (CO12), nie (AT2), zhen (AT3), shen (CO10), jiaogan (AH6a), pi (CO13) shenmen (TF4), wei (CO4), neifenmi (CO18), shenshangxian (TG2p) and erjian (HX6,7i). The differences were significant in the frequencies of positive reaction at 9 auricular points as compared with the control group A and the control group B respectively, named naogan (AT3,4i), pizhixia (AT4), e (AT1), xin (CO15), gan (CO12), nie (AT2), zhen (AT3), shen (CO10) and jiaogan (AH6a) (all P <0. 05).

CONCLUSIONThe pathological degree of positive reaction about auricular points in stroke patients is higher than those in the patients of non-stroke internal medicine disease and the healthy people. It is verified that the auricular diagnostic method is specific in stroke. naogan (AT3,4i), pizhixia (AT4), e (AT1), xin (C15), gan (GO12), nie (AT2), zhen (AT3), shen (CO10) and jiaogan (AH6a) are correlative with stroke.

Objective To investigate effects of different doses of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in fetal mouse osteoblasts.Methods Calvaria osteoblasts of fetal mice of 19 days were cultured.The effects of rhBMP-2 at different doses and different action times on VEGF expression patterns in fetal mouse osteoblasts were observed with reverse transcrip- tion-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot staining.Results In the present study,RT-PCR detected a steady expression of VEGF mRNA in the control fetal mouse osteoblasts.The levels of VEGF mRNA increased in an apparent biphasic manner with a maximum stimulation (about 2-fold above the control,P＜0.05 ) in both VEGF mRNA species observed at 300 ng/mL of rbBMP-2.After 48 h of rhBMP-2 treatment,the VEGF mRNA levels approached those in the control.The VEGF mRNA levels appeared to be biphasic in rhBMP-2-treated cultures,showing peak induction at 3 and 24 h and remaining elevated at 48 b.Compared with the individual control value at each time point,an apparent maximum increase (about 2.5-fold above the control,P＜0.05) occurred at 6 h.The second peak induction,about 2-fold above that in the control,occurred at about 36 h.Conclusions The expression of VEGF mRNA is steady in the control fetal mouse osteoblasts.RhBMP-2 can promote the expression of VEGF in dose-dependent and time-dependent manners.

The mechanism of Tongmai Oral Liquid (TOL) for chronic nephritis rat model with Qi-deficiency and blood-stasis syndrome was studied.The model was established by adding Qi-deficiency and blood-stasis syndrome to the chronic nephritis rats. The experimental rats were randomly allocated to 5 groups: Group A (treated with high dosage of TOL), Group B (treated with low dosage of TOL), Group C (treated with Jinshuibao), Group D (model control group) and Group E (normal control group). After 4 weeks of treatment, general health state, biochemical indexes including T lymphocyte subgroup and blood rheology, and pathological damage of kidney tissue were much improved in Group A than Group B and Group C. It is indicated that TOL can improve the renal function and delay the occurrence of glomerular arteriosclerosis in rats by reinforcing Qi, activating blood flow, regulating immune function, lessening the hypercoagulative state and reducing renal damage.

Objective To evaluate the prognostic values of leukocyte count,hemoglobin,biochemical parameters,erythrocyte sedimentation rate and immunoglobulin on mortality in patients aged 80 years and over.Methods Totally 342 patients(aged 85.6±4.0 years)were followed up for (82.0±36.9) months,and the cause and time of death were recorded.Results During the period of follow up,198 patients suffered from death.Compared with the survival group (132 cases),the death group had older age [ (86.5±4.4)years vs.(84.5±3.2)years,t=-4.86,P＜0.01 ],higher white blood cell [ (6.2± 1.7) ＞ 109/L vs.(5.5±1.3) × 109/L,t=-3.93,P＜0.01 ],lower hemoglobin [(134.4±14.4)g/L vs.(140.0± 12.6)g/L,t= 3.65,P＜0.01 ],slightly faster erythrocyte sedimentation rate [ 11 mm/h(15 mm/h) vs.9 mm/h (10 mm/h),U=- 3.31,P＜0.01 ],lower immunoglobulin M [ (0.9±0.5)mg/L vs.(1.1±0.8)mg/L,t =2.55,P＜0.05 ],slightly higher urea nitrogen [ (7.5±2.6) mmol/L vs.(6.8±1.6) mmol/L,t=2.81,P＜0.01]and creatinine [(113.0±32.5) μmol/L vs.(100.5±15.8) μmol/L,t=-4.65,P＜0.01 ].Cox multivariate analysis revealed that older age (RR=1.083,95％CI:1.040 1.127,P＜0.01),white blood cell count (RR=1.134,95％CI:1.021-1.260,P＜0.05),creatinine (RR=1.011,95％CI=1.0021.020,P＜0.05),hemoglobin(RR=0.835,95％CI:0.714-0.975,P＜0.05)andimmunoglobulin M(RR=0.710,95％CI:0.521-0.966,P＜0.03),aorticaneurysm(RR=2.144,95％CI:1.163-3.951,P ＜ 0.05 ) were the independent risk factors for death.Conclusions Aging,increased WBC count,decreased hemoglobin and immunoglobulin M,elevated creatinine and aortic aneurysm are the independent risk factors for death,which are powerful parameters for the prognostic evaluation in the elderly aged 80 years and over.

Aim To study the effect of Baoxinbao film on endothelin(ET) and nitric oxide(NO) secretion in patients with stable angina pectoris(SAP).Methods 76 patients with SAP were randomly divided into two groups, with 40 cases in the baoxinbao group plastered with baoxinbao film and 36 cases in the isosorbide dinitrate group receiving isosorbide dinitrate. The levels of plasma ET and NO before and after treatment were observed. OBJECTIVETo study the clinical manifestations of pharyngeal and laryngeal amyloidosis.

METHODSRetrospective analysis of the clinical data of the inpatients with systemic and local amyloidosis.

RESULTSOf the 25 cases, sex ratio was 21:4, and average age was 48 years. Seventeen cases were systemic, of which 7 patients died in 2 years since diagnoses were made. One case was local bronchial amyloidosis. Seven cases were local primary pharyngeal and laryngeal amyloidosis and no affirmative death report was recorded since diagnoses were made.

CONCLUSIONSAmyloidosis occurs more likely in male and middle- and old-aged patients. Pharyngeal and laryngeal local primary amyloidosis have relatively better prognosis than that of systemic amyloidosis. Follow-up is important because local recurrence may be happened.

GP73-positive rate in HCC was higher than that of the normal liver tissues (χ2=73.60, P<0.05). sCLU-positive rate in HCC was also higher than that of the normal liver tissues (χ2=207.94, P<0.05). GP73 expression was positively correlated with sCLU expression in HCC (r=0.405, P<0.05). GP73 and sCLU were associated with clinicopathological features including tumor differentiation, TNM stage and vascular invasion (P<0.05); GP73 and sCLU had no correlation with the patient’s gender, age, HBsAg, cirrhosis, AFP value, portal vein thrombosis and tumor numbers (P>0.05). GP73 was associated with survival but not sCLU. Conclusion:GP73 and sCLU have higher positive rates in HCC and GP73 is positively correlated with sCLU. The expression of GP73 and sCLU are probably closely related with the invasion of HCC, which can help evaluate the prognosis of the patients.
