Castor(Ricinus communis L.),a high energy-stored and industrial raw-material plant species,is of great value in its application.Progresses in castor biotechnology were summarized in terms of tissue culture and genetic transformation.The results of studies on tissue culture indicated that application of TDZ(thiadiazuron) gave the maximum rate of shoot proliferation in various exogenous hormones when embryo axis was used as explant.On this ground,the in vitro regeneration system was established.The studies on castor genetic transformation showed that the Agrobaterium-mediated method was the most suitable one in different castor transformation methods.The hygromycin is suitable to selection of castor transfomants while castor embryo axis is insensitive to kanamycin.The possibilities of breeding of new castor varieties and improvement of castor production via biotechnology were also discussed.
2.Cytotoxicity and apoptosis induction in human HepG2 hepatoma cells by decabromodiphenyl ethane.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the toxic effects of decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE), used as an alternative to decabromodiphenyl ether in vitro.
METHODSHepG2 cells were cultured in the presence of DBDPE at various concentrations (3.125-100.0 mg/L) for 24, 48, and 72 h respectively and the toxic effect of DBDPE was studied.
RESULTSAs evaluated by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide and lactate dehydrogenase assays and nuclear morphological changes, DBDPE inhibited HepG2 viability in a time- and dose-dependent manner within a range of 12.5 mg/L to 100 mg/L and for 48 h and 72 h. Induction of apoptosis was detected at 12.5-100 mg/L at 48 h and 72 h by propidium iodide staining, accompanied with overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Furthermore, N-acetyl-L-cysteine, a widely used ROS scavenger, significantly reduced DBDPE-induced ROS levels and increased HepG2 cells viability.
CONCLUSIONDBDPE has cytotoxic and anti-proliferation effect and can induce apoptosis in which ROS plays an important role.

3.A Comparative Study of Three Imaging Modalities for Size Selection of a Watchman Left Atrial Appendage Closure Device

Purpose:
To compare the results of computed tomography angiography (CTA), transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) measurements and analyze their accuracy, correlation, and consistency in patients who have successfully undergone left atrial appendage closure (LAAC).
Materials and Methods:
A total of 157 non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) patients who underwent LAAC with Watchman devices were included in the study. The maximum diameter and depth of LAA were recorded using CTA, TEE, and DSA. Correlations and agreements were compared.
Results:
The LAAC procedure was performed successfully in all patients using the Watchman device. There was no significant difference between DSA and TEE measurements of the diameter of the LAA ostium. LAA ostium diameter obtained by CTA, however, was greater than that from DSA and TEE. Correlations were good between LAA ostium diameter measured by TEE, CTA, and DSA and Watchman device size. DSA measurements and actual device size showed the widest limits of agreement, followed by TEE; CTA measurements showed the narrowest limits of agreement. For LAA depth measurements, mean CTA measurements were higher than those of TEE and DSA. There was no significant difference in depth measurements among the three imaging modalities.
Conclusion
CTA, TEE, and DSA measurements exhibited good correlations with Watchman device size. The ostium diameter and depth of the LAA measured by CTA were greater than those measured by TEE and DSA. The relevance and concordance of CTA measurements were the strongest.
4.Introduce Tagsk1 into salt-sensitive callus to improve the capacity of salt-tolerance by micropartical bombardment.

The Tagsk1 (Triticum asetium L. glycogen synthase kinase 1) gene derived from the genome of wheat salt-tolerance mutant RH8706-49 was cloned by PCR. The special primers designed according to full length cDNA sequence of Tagsk1 (AF525086). A binary expression vector pBI121-gsk1 containing Gus and Tagsk1 was constructed. And pBI121-gsk1 was introduced into the callus induced from mature embryos of salt-sensitive wheat H8706-34 and cv. China Spring by particle bombardment. The transformed callus were screened by Kanamycin and 0.5% NaCl. The salt-tolerance callus were obtained, which showed higher ability of salt-tolerance and could diffirentiate roots and buds on the medium containing 0.5% NaCl.

5.Effects of moxibustion on expression of hypothalamic POMC mRNA and PDYN mRNA in rats with rheumatoid arthritis.

OBJECTIVETo explore the central mechanism of moxibustion on analgesic effect.
METHODSMale Wistar rats were screened by pain threshold value before making model, and 48 rats whose pain threshold was (250 +/- 25) g were selected. Twelve male Wistar rats were randomly selected as a normal group. For the rest rats the rheumatoid arthritis (RA) model was duplicated by raising in a windy, cold and wet environment combined with injection of Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA), and then they were randomly divided into a model group, a moxibustion group and a moxa volatile oil group, 12 rats in each group. The moxibustion and the moxa volatile oil igroup were treated with moxibustion and moxa volatile oil at "Shenshu"(BL 23) and "Zusanli"(ST 36), respectively, for 15 days. No interventions were added on the model group and the normal group. The pain threshold in Iinjured foot and the expression of hypothalamic POMC mRNA and PDYN mRNA in rats were observed.
RESULTSCompared with the normal group, the pain threshold and the expression of hypothalamic POMC mRNA and PDYN mRNA in the model group were increased (all P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, the pain threshold and the expression of hypothalamic POMC mRNA and PDYN mRNA in the moxibustion group were increased significantly (all P < 0.01), but no statistically significance in the moxa volatile oil group (P > 0.05). Compared with the moxa volatile oil group, the above-mentioned observative indices in moxibustion group were all increased significantly (all P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONMoxibustion has obvious analgesic effect and its mechanism may be related to the increasing expression of hypothalamic POMC and PDYN mRNA through the warming effect of moxibustion.

6.Analysis of the clinical features of 20 cases of non-functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

Objective To investigate the clinical features of non- functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and to summarize experiences in the diagnosis and treatment. Methods The clinical pathology and follow-up data of 20 patients with non-functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors treated in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to Medical School of Nanjing University, from January 2008 to February 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among the 20 patients, 9 patients (9/20) were asymptomatic, and the tumor was found unexpectedly by physical examination. Eleven patients (11/20) with symptoms were admitted to the hospital due to non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms or compression symptoms caused by tumor space occupying. None of the patients had endocrine disorders. There were nineteen patients who received surgical treatment. According to the grading system, there were 7 patients (7/19) with G1, and 12 patients (12/19) with G2 . Among the 14 patients with diameter of tumor greater than 2 cm, there are 4 patients (4/14) with lymph node metastasis, and 4 patients (4/14) with liver metastasis. Five patients with diameter of tumor less than or equal to 2 cm had no distant metastasis. Conclusions NF-pNETs is often with nonspecific symptoms. Imaging examination is an important diagnostic method. Operation is the primary therapy for NF-pNETs. Because most of the small NF-pNETs with no symptoms are benign and grow slowly, and the metastatic rate is very low. It is important to weigh the pros and cons of surgical treatment for these patients.
7.Analysis of 12 children with novel influenza A (H1N1) virus infection.

OBJECTIVESince late March 2009, a novel influenza H1N1 strain emerged in humans in Mexico and the United States. It has rapidly spread to many countries on different continents, prompting unprecedented activation of pandemic preparedness plans. The present study aimed to investigate the characteristics of children with the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus infection.
METHODTwelve cases with influenza A (H1N1) infection were diagnosed according to the criteria of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of China during 1 May to 15 July 2009 in the Pediatric Hospital of Fudan University were analyzed. Influenza A (H1N1) RNA was detected by RT-PCR in CDC Shanghai China.
RESULTAll the 12 children with the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus infection were imported cases, aged from 11 months to 14 years 7 months, 7 of whom were boys, 5 were girls. Five cases contacted closely with influenza A (H1N1) patients; 12 cases had fever and no vomiting or diarrhea; 7 had cough or runny nose or anorexia. One had shortness of breath. Of the 11 cases who could tell about symptoms correctly, 6 had sore throat, 3 had stomachache, and none had muscle pain. Two of the 12 cases had pneumonia, and the disease in 1 of them was fatal and needed intensive care. One case was isolated and treated at home. The 11 cases hospitalized were treated according to the guidance of influenza A (H1N1) diagnosis and treatment issued by the Ministry of Health of China. Ten hospitalized cases were treated with oseltamivir. All the cases recovered completely. The median length of hospital stay was 8.1 days (range, 6 to 16), and the time of negative test results of influenza A (H1N1) RNA from illness onset to collection of samples for viral testing was from 5 to 15 days.
CONCLUSIONSymptoms among children with the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus infection were classic and the majority of the cases we treated had a mild clinical course if they were isolated and treated promptly. Antivirals appears to have not had any major adverse effects. More data from different regions and large samples are needed to illuminate the characteristics of children with novel influenza A (H1N1) virus infection.

8.Effect of low density lipoprotein oxidizing in hyperlipidemia rats after treating with tetrahydrobiopterin.

OBJECTIVETo explore the oxidative modification effect and its mechanism of low density lipoprotein (LDL) in hyperlipidemia (HL) rats after treating with tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4).
METHODSFifty four 8-week-old male Wistar rats were used, these 54 rats were randomly divided into control group, high fat diet group (HL group), high fat diet and injected BH4 group (HL + BH4 group), and 18 in each group. The BH4 levels of blood fats and blood serum and its metabolites, the aortic reactive oxygen species, the end product malondialdehyde (MDA) and the LDL oxidation level were all determined by killing 6 experimental rats in each group at the first 8, 16, and 24 weeks of age respectively.
RESULTSTreating with BH4 after 8 and 16 weeks, there was no significant difference in serum lipids among three groups (P > 0. 05); but ROS and MDA decreased significantly (P < 0.01); compared with control and HL groups, the BH4 level of HL + BH4 group increased a lot (P < 0.01); compared with control group, the BH4 content reduced obviously in aortic homogenate of HL group (P < 0.01), but the total petrin levels (TB = BH4 + BH2 + B) had no significant difference (P > 0.05); the serum TBARS formation increased gradually with the increase of week-ages, but compared with HL group, the serum TBARS formation of HL + BH4 group reduced significantly (P < 0. 01).
CONCLUSIONTreating with BH4 can reduced the LDL oxidation, the mechanism may be related to the correct of NOS uncoupling, the reduce of ROS generation and the decrease of LDL lipid peroxidation.

9.Tracing to the source of staphylococcus aureus isolates from ice cream.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the contamination of Staphylococcus aureus isolates in ice cream by phenotypic typing and molecular typing.
METHODSThe Staphylococcus aureus isolates were separated from ice cream, filler, cutter, salves and material. The separated isolates were characterized by drug-resistance, staphylococcal enterotoxin (SEA-E), SE (A-E, G-J) genes and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) types.
RESULTTwo Staphylococcus aureus isolates were separated, one from ice cream, another from cutter. Their characteristics of drug-resistance, staphylococcal enterotoxin (SEA-E), SE (A-E,G-J) genes and PFGE type were the same.
CONCLUSIONThe two Staphylococcus aureus isolates were the same clone. The contaminated Staphylococcus aureus isolates could be traced to the contaminated cutters.

10.Construction of a three-dimensional visualization model of arteries supplying the extrahepatic bile duct based on submillimeter CT data.

OBJECTIVETo construct a three-dimensional (3D) model of arteries supplying the extrahepatic bile duct with a new segmentation algorithm based on submillimeter CT data.
METHODSThe new image segmentation algorithm based on interactive volume rendering was integrated into Medical Image Three-Dimensional Visualization System (MI-3DVS) as an intersected plug-in. The abdominal submillimeter CTA data of 10 patients were imported into MI-3DVS and the 3D model of the extrahepatic bile duct and its supplying arteries were constructed. The 3D model was zoomed in, zoomed out and spinned for observation and analysis of the arteries supplying the extrahepatic bile duct.
RESULTSThe 3D models of the blood supply to extrahepatic bile duct allowed stereoscopic, and accurate display of the fourth- and fifth-level branches of the hepatic artery, the second-level branches of the cystic artery, the pancreatic duodenal artery arch and the retroportal artery. The 3D models also provided a clear vision of the biliary structures including the hepatobiliary tract, the left and right hepatic ducts, gallbladder, the liver duct, and the common bile duct.
CONCLUSIONBased on the segmentation method of interactive volume rendering, the CT data of the arterioles supplying the extrahepatic bile duct can be extracted and segmented for 3D reconstruction to display the three-dimensional anatomical structures of the extrahepatic bile duct and its supplying arteries.
