Objective To study the efficacy and safety of CO2 laser microsurgery for early glottis carcinoma.Methods The data of 96 cases of early glottic laryngeal carcinoma treated with CO2 laser microsurgery were retrospectively analyzed.Surgical specimens were conventionally embedded with paraffin and serially sectioned.Sections were stained by using hematoxylin-eosin for pathologic examination.The local control rate was observed after operation.Results Among the 96 specimens,88 surgical margins were negative and 8 were positive.10 patients (10.4 ％) recurrenced followed up for 3 years.The recurrence rates of Tis,T1a,T1b and T2 were 0 (0/10),4.1％ (2/48),25.0 ％ (4/16) and 18.1％ (4/22),respectively,with significant differences among groups (X2 =6.105,P ＜ 0.05).All of 8 cases with positive margin and 2 cases with negative margin were recurrened.The recurrent rate of patients with involvement of the anterior commissure was 30.0 ％ (6/20),which was higher than that of patients with no tumor invasion [5.3 ％ (4/76)] (X2 =9.624,P ＜ 0.01).Conclusions The safe edges can be obtained by CO2 laser microsurgery for early stage of glottis carcinoma,which have advantages in local control rate,vocal function of the larynx and curative effect.

OBJECTIVETo explore correlation between lung and large intestine and the two meridians under pathological condition in the view of meridian theory.

METHODSNinety-six cases of bronchial asthma were applied palpation at the running course of 12 regular meridians under the elbow and knees and back-shu points. And abnormal reactions were recorded, the affected meridians and back-shu points were discovered.

RESULTSThe abnormal reactions most frequently appeared on the Lung Meridian, followed by the Large Intestine Meridian, the Spleen Meridian, the Liver Meridian, the Stomach Meridian and the Triple Energizer Meridian. And the unusual reaction of the back-shu points most frequently appeared on Feishu (BL 13), and Dachangshu (BL 25) and Pishu (BL 21) followed as the next two.

CONCLUSIONThe existence of correlation between the Lung Meridian and the Large Intestine Meridians under pathological condition can be proved through meridian and acupoint palpation on bronchial asthma patients.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of intradermal needle therapy for urinary retention after cervical cancer surgery. Methods: A total of 100 patients with urinary retention after cervical cancer surgery were randomized into a control group and an observation group, with 50 cases in each group. The control group was treated with basic nursing only, and the observation group was treated with additional intradermal needle therapy. Both groups were treated for 2 courses of treatment. The main symptom scores and residual urine volume of the two groups were observed before and after treatment, and the inpatient time, catheter indwelling time and the clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups. Results: The total effective rate was 96.0％ in the observation group and 88.0％ in the control group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the main symptom scores and residual urine volume in both groups decreased significantly (all P<0.05), and the scores and residual urine volume in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (all P<0.05). The inpatient time and catheter indwelling time in the observation group were significantly shorter than those in the control group (both P<0.05). Conclusion: Intradermal needle therapy has an obvious effect in improving symptoms of urinary retention after cervical cancer surgery, and the effect is significantly more persistent than that of simple basic nursing.

OBJECTIVETo compare the long-term influence of vertebral fixation through or across the affected vertebra on vertebral morphology.

METHODSClinical data of 48 patients with simple thoracic and lumbar spinal fractures who were admitted between Jan. 2008 and Dec. 2010 were analyzed retrospectively. Among them 36 cases (28 males and 8 females) were fixed through the injured vertebra (group A) and 12 cases (8 males and 4 females) were fixed across the injured vertebra (group B). All patients were followed up for 6-36 months (mean 11.5 months). The vertebral body height, endplate angle and neurofunction were compared between the two groups before surgery, a week after surgery and at the end of the follow-up period.

RESULTSThere was no statistically significant difference in vertebral body height,endplate angle and neurofunction before operation between group A and B (P > 0.05). Vertebral body height and endplate angle improved in both groups a week after operation and at the end of the follow-up period as compared with those before operation (P < 0.05), and the efficacy in group B was significantly better than that in group A (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in neurofunction between the two groups (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe fixation method through the injured vertebra had a better reduction effect, more stable fixation, and a better long-term effect on vertebral morphology than that across the injured vertebra in the treatment of thoracolumbar vertebral fractures.

OBJECTIVE To develop an HPLC method for determination of main components in prepared rhubarb decoction and investigate its effects on rats with noxious heat blood stasis syndrome.METHODS The analysis was performed on a Hy-persil GOLD C18column with the mobile phase of 0.1％phosphoric acid solution(A)-acetonitrile(B).The detection wave-length was set at 254 nm and the column temperature was 30 ℃.The method was validated and the samples were determined under this condition.The abdominal aortic blood of rats with noxious heat blood stasis syndrome was collected and tested to obtain the hemorheological parameters.Also,the TXB2and 6-keto-PGF1αlevels in rats plasma were measured.RESULTS The developed HPLC method showed good linearity within certain concentration ranges.And the precision,repeatability,sta-bility and recovery all met the requirements.Compared with rats in model group,the whole blood viscosity at four shear rates(P<0.05),plasma viscosity(P<0.01)and the level of plasma fibrinogen content(P<0.01)in the high dose group were sig-nificantly decreased after doing,and the TT(P<0.01)and PT(P<0.01)values were significantly prolonged.Furthermore,the levels of TXB2(decreased,P<0.05)and 6-keto-PGF1α(increased,P<0.05)were significantly changed,and their ratio was corrected to be normal.CONCLUSION The method was simple,accurate and reliable,which could be used for quality control of prepared rhubarb decoction.Prepared rhubarb could improve vascular endothelial function by modifying blood rheol-ogy,promoting the secretion of PGI2,reducing the generation of TXA2and recovering the balance of TXB2/6-keto-PGF1α.

The traditional primary processing method and technology systems are derived from the long-term practices and experiences, which are distinctive, colorful, diverse, and scientific, which are helpful to development and utilization of traditional Chinese medicine resources. This paper systemically expounds the research status of the Chinese medicine processing method, summarizes the problems in the primary processing of traditional Chinese medicinal materials research, and prospects its bright future.

It is unclear why the concentration of testosterone increases in the testicular vein after hemicastration without corresponding alteration in gonadotropins. The present work was undertaken to examine whether the testosterone levels could be modified by denervation of the testis in adult rats. Both systemic and testicular blood samples were collected either immediately before or 6 and 24 hours after hemicastration from the rats two weeks after denervation of either inferior spermatic nerves (ISN) or ISN plus superior spermatic nerves (ISN-SSN). Increase of testicular testosterone induced by hemicastration was significantly (P<0.05) inhibited in these rats, as compared with the sham animals (at 6 and 24 hours, ISN vs sham: 16.00±3.35 vs 42.72±13.85 and 26.93±8.68 vs 71.16±13.30 whilst ISN-SSN vs sham: 31.63±7.92 vs 60.61±18.11 and 27.70±8.93 vs 93.92±19.73 ng/ml, respectively), whereas no significant change in LH was observed in all the experimental groups. FSH underwent no alteration in all the ISN denervation groups, but a significant elevation was observed in the ISN-SSN denervation groups (P<0.05) before hemicastration. Therefore, it appears that the change in FSH is not the cause of the inhibition of testosterone increase in the hemicastrated rats after testicular denervation and that ISN plays an active role in regulation of testosterone increase induced by hemicastration.

OBJECTIVETo study the effects of nonylphenol and cadmium on acrosome reaction in vitro in mouse spermatozoa.

METHODSSperm were collected from the vas deferens of mice, capacitated in vitro and stimulated with A23187 at 30 micromol/L to induce acrosome reaction. Then the sperm suspension was treated with nonylphenol at 10, 20, 30, 60 and 100 micromol/L or cadmium at 500, 2500 and 5 000 micromol/L, and the control group treated with the carrier solvent. Acrosome reaction of the sperm was analyzed by FITC-PSA staining.

RESULTSCompared with the control group, nonylphenol significantly inhibited acrosome reaction at the concentration of > 60 micromol/L (P < 0.01), but not at < 30 micromol/L (P > 0.05), and the sperm survival rate was reduced with increased concentration of nonylphenol. However, cadmium exhibited no significant influence on either acrosome reaction (P > 0.05) or sperm survival rate at 500 - 5 000 micromol/L.

CONCLUSIONNonylphenol and cadmium affect the spermatogenesis of mice in different ways; the former directly inhibits sperm acrosome reaction, while the latter has no direct effect on it.

The murine bone marrow endothelial cell line (mBMEC) has been maintained by means of subculture and cryopreservation for over 10 years since it was established in our laboratory. This study was aimed to newly identify biological characteristics of this cell line for further study. The cultured mBMEC cells were observed by inverted microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). PECAM-1 (CD31) and von Willebrand factor (vWF) were detected by immunofluorescent staining. The phagocytotic activity of the cells in culture was tested by using fluorescent acetylated low-density lipoprotein (Dil-Ac-LDL). The cell growth kinetics analysis and karyotype analysis were performed. The results showed that the adherent cells were mostly elliptical, rounded and spindle-shaped, and some of them connected to each other to form cord- and network-like arrangements in mBMEC cultures at subconfluence. The adherent cells grew up to confluence as a cobblestone-like monolayer. Several ultrastructural features of the endothelial cells could be observed in TEM sections of the cultured cells. More than 94% of mBMEC cells were positive for either CD31 or vWF. The phagocytotic ingestion of Dil-Ac-LDL occurred in 98.5% of cells. In normal culture conditions, the cells grew with a mean population doubling time of 54.6 hours and the maximal mitotic index was 38 per thousand in the rapid growth period. The colony yields were 4.33% to 7.40% depending on the plating density of cells. Karyotypes of all the cells were aneuploidy with a greater percentage of hyperdiploid. It is concluded that mBMEC cells retain the fundamental properties of endothelial cells, but the growth kinetics and biological behaviors are slightly different from those in the early days after the establishment of this cell line.
