Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 2016;47(9):1589-1594
Objective: To investigate the pollen morphological and physiological characteristics of Zanthoxylum nitidum. Methods: The pollen grain viability was studied using an in vitro method and the optimal concentration of sucrose, H3BO3, and CaCl2 on pollen germination were investigated by 3414 test. At the same time it contrasted with the I2-KI and TTC methods to find the proper determination method for Z. nitidum pollen vitality. And then It was further studied that different storage time and methods had an effect on pollen grain viability by having established method. Pollen morphology was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: The I2-KI and TTC methods were not fit for determining the mature pollen vitality of Z. nitidum. The optimal medium was 10% sucrose + 0.1 mg/mL H3BO3 + 0.1 mg/mL CaCl2 on pollen germination in vitro and the pollen germination ratio was up to 66.67%. Pollen viability was the highest in 24 h and it could keep about 15 d in 4 ℃ environments. The pollen grains were 3-colpate prolate, with reticulate ornamentation. Conclusion: The determination and storage of pollen grain viability is established preliminarily to provide reliable basis of knowing physiological characteristics, breeding and taxonomy.

Increasing attention has been focused on the antitumor activity of artemisinin derivatives in recent years, for artemisinin had been reported to have cytotoxic effects against HL-60, P388 and MCF-7 tumor cells. We report here the synthesis and evaluation for antitumor activity of a series of artemisinin-ether derivatives bearing tetrahydropyrrole, morpholine, piperidine, substituted piperidines and azoles with various linkers. Sixteen 10-O-substituted dihydroartemisinin derivatives were designed and synthesized, all of which have never been reported in literatures and whose antiproliferative effects on human breast cancer MCF-7, MCF-7/Adr and HL-60 cells were determined by MTT assay or direct cell counting. Each of these artemisinin derivatives possessed better effects than dihydroartemisinin evidently against HL-60 and MCF-7 cells growth, while less potent than doxorubicin. All target compounds exhibited significantly improved potency compared to DHA and doxorubicin on the doxorubicin-resistant MCF-7/Adr cells, so did they in their sensitive counterparts MCF-7 cells. Among them, compounds GF02, GH04 and ZH04 showed strong activity against these three cell lines growth. Further research is undergoing.

Microbiology 2008;0(07):-
By using enrichment culture in liquid minimal medium or direct culture on minimal medium plates, thirteen bacterial strains (AD27-AD39) capable of utilizing atrazine as a sole nitrogen source for growth were isolated from a mixture of industrial wastewater and sludge from an atrazine manufacturing plant. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, eleven strains were identified as Arthrobacter spp. and two strans were identified as Pseudomonas spp.. We further studied in detail the composition of atrazine-degrading genes and degradation characteristics of Arthrobacter sp. AD30 and Pseudomonas sp. AD39 that have high degradative activity. From PCR assays, it was indicated that both AD30 and AD39 strains contained atrazine-degrading genes trzN and atzBC and was capable of degrading toxic atrazine to nontoxic cyanuric acid. The biodegradation experiments showed that the percentage of atrazine removal were 92.5%,were 92.5%, 97.9% and 99.6% respectively after AD30, AD39 or the mixture of the two strains were inocu- lated and incubated at 30?C for 48 hours in minimal media containing 200 mg/L atrazine, indicating that atrazine degradation by the mixed bacteria was more effective than the single strain. In addition, after industrial wastewater containing 176 mg/L atrazine was inoculated with the mixed bacteria and incubated at 30?C with shaking for 72 hours atrazine were removed by 99.1%, implicating that the mixed bacteria are good candidate for biotreatment of atrazine-containing industrial wastewater.

Reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector was employed for simultaneous determination of five main index components and specific chromatograms analysis in Xiaochaihu granules with a linear gradient elution of acetonitrile-water (containing 0.1% phosphoric acid) as mobile phase. The results showed that five main index components (baicalin, baicalein, wogonoside, wogonin, enoxolone) were separated well under the analytical condition. The linear ranges of five components were 0.518 - 16.576, 0.069 - 2.197, 0.167 - 5.333, 0.009 - 0.297 and 0.006 - 0.270 mg x g(-1), respectively. The correlation coefficients were 0.999 9, and the average recoveries ranged from 95% to 105%. Twelve common peaks were selected as the specific chromatograms of Xiaochaihu granules with baicalin as the reference peak. There were good similarities between the reference and the ten batches of samples. The similarity coefficients were no less than 0.9. The analytical method established is highly sensitive with strong specificity and it can be used efficiently in the quality control of Xiaochaihu granules.

OBJECTIVE:
To establish the diagnosis of amniotic fluid embolism with blood samples by liquid-based cytology technique and to study the validity of method.
METHODS:
The blood samples were collected from patients who suffered from amniotic fluid embolism. The components of amniotic fluid in blood samples were examined with blood smear by two direct smear methods (supernatant smear, sediment smear) and two liquid-based cytology methods (automatic smear, manual smear). The positive detection rate of each method was calculated.
RESULTS:
The positive detection rates of two liquid-based cytology methods (84.6% and 92.3%, respectively) were much higher than those of two direct methods (53.8% and 61.5%, respectively).
CONCLUSION
The liquid-based cytology technique could improve the positive detection rate of amniotic fluid embolism.
