A total of 1151 subjects were enrolled in this study.Metabolic syndrome (MS) was diagnosed according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria.Significant differences in waist circumference,body mass index(BMI),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),systolic blood pressure(SBP),fat mass,Fat％ in different serum TSH levels were found.There were positive relation between fasting plasma glucose,DBP,SBP,and serum FT4 levels,between high density lipoprotein-cholesterol,DBP,SBP,waist circumference,fat mass,Fat％,and serum FT3 levels,even after adjustment for age and sex.Serum FT3 and FT4 levels were higher in the MS group than those in the control group.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical efficacy and action mechanism of acupuncture for premature ovarian failure (POF).

METHODSAccording to prospective cohort study design, 30 cases were included. Based on theory of regulating Chong and Conception Vessels as well as soothing the liver and calming the nerves, acupuncture at Guanyuan (CV 4), Dahe (KI 12), Taixi (KI 3), Taichong (LR 3), Baihui (GV 20) was applied, three times per week and 3 months were considered as one session. Totally two sessions were performed. The menstruation condition, estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and scores of the clinical perimenopausal symptoms were taken as treatment outcomes.

RESULTSThe total effective rate was 86.7% (26/30) and the cured rate was 16.7% (5/30). The recovery rate of menstruation was 16.7% (5/30) and the regain rate of menstruation was 56.7% (17/30). After the treatment, the level of E2 was significantly increased from (45.41 +/- 18. 09) pmol/L to (59.07 +/- 24.21) pmol/L (P < 0.05), and the score of perimenopausal symptoms was obviously reduced from 14.28 +/- 8. 30 to 4.04 +/- 3.28 (P < 0.01). However, no statistical differences could be seen in FSH before and after treatment (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONAcupuncture has certain effect on improving menstruation and perimenopausal symptoms in POF patients, which is likely to he related with increasing the level of E2.

The quality of guidelines of clinical practice in acupuncture and moxibustion was evaluated with AGREE II tool. After retrieval of officially-issued guidelines of clinical practice in acupuncture and moxibustion from 2004 to 2013, totally 5 types of evidence-based guidelines of clinical practice in acupuncture and moxibustion were acquired, including depression, herpes zoster, pseudobulbar palsy after stroke, migraine and Bell's palsy. With AGREE II tool, independent score in six areas, including guideline's scope and purpose, participants and personnel, preciseness, clarity and readability, applicability and editorial independence were analyzed to perform a comprehensive evaluation in the end. The assessment results indicated that the score of editorial independence in evidence-based guidelines of clinical practice in acupuncture and moxibustion was the highest, averagely 97.9%, which was followed by clarity and readability (83.3%), participants and personnel (78.1%), preciseness (75.6%), the scope and purpose (68.1%) and the applicability (62.5%). The total evaluation score was all 6 points in the five guidelines with recommended as comprehensive evaluation advice. This study results indicate that although the guideline of clinical practice in acupuncture and moxibustion is low in number, the total quality is considerable.

There is no specific treatment for post-polio syndrome. The common applied therapies include mediciation, exercise, cogni-tive behavioural therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, assistive technology, psychological and social factors adjustment, interdisciplinary comprehensive rehabilitation, and so on.

Objective:To explore the impacts of right ventricular alternative site pacing on left ventricle contractibility and sys-tolic synchronicity by real-time three dimensional echocardiography .Methods :Tweenty patients with atrio-ventricular (AV ) blocks undergoing dual-chamber pacemaker implantation were divided into the right ventricular apex pacing group (Group RVA) and the right ventricular outflow tract pacing group (Group RVOT ) according to the different pacing sites . Left ventricular volume ,ejection fraction and LV regional wall motion were assessed by echocardiography before and 3 months after operation .The left ventricle contractibility and systolic synchronicity were compared between the two groups .Results:Stand-ard deviation and difference of time to minimum systolic volume (Tmsv-dif ,Tmsv-dif% ,Tmsv-sd ,Tmsv-sd% ) of 16 seg-ments ,12 segments and 6 segments ,LV volume ,excursion and regular 2D parameters do not differ .Conclusions :RVA and RVOT pacing are the same in terms of LV synchrony in short time follow-up .

OBJECTIVETo investigate effects of cigarette, alcohol consumption and sauna on sperm morphology.

METHODS602 cases of male infertility were selected from our case database, who were divided into three subgroups: smoking (243) , drinking(224), sauna(135) and those without any of the above habits were taken as the corresponding controls. The sperm morphology were analyzed by automated sperm morphology analyzer(ASMA). A questionnaire was voluntarily filled out by patients in order to investigate cigarette, alcohol consumption and sauna frequency.

RESULTSThe normal morphologic sperm rates in cigarette, alcohol consumption and sauna groups were lower than those in the corresponding control groups, respectively(P <0.05, P <0.001). Percentages of irregularity head sperm were higher than those in normal controls, respectively(P <0.05).

CONCLUSIONCigarette, alcohol consumption and sauna could affect sperm morphology, especially caused increasing of irregularity head sperm.

OBJECTIVE: To establish the 2-dimensional electrophoresis(2-DE) profiles of peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and health adults. METHODS: The total proteins from PBMC in patients with HCC and healthy adult were separated by immobilized pH gradient-based 2-DE. The differential expression proteins were analyzed by PDQuest analysis software. RESULTS: The well-resolved, reproducible 2-DE patterns of PBMC in patients with HCC and healthy adults were obtained. For HCC, the average spots of 2-DE maps were 1 206 +/- 48, and the average matching rate was 90.8%. For normal adults, the average spots were 1 123 +/- 37, and the average matching rate was 92.6%. CONCLUSION The well-resolved, reproducible 2-DE patterns of PBMC in patients with HCC and healthy adults are established. These proteomic analysis methods are useful to screen the potential biomarkers in the early diagnosis, treatment and prognosis monitor in patients with malignant tumor.

AIMTo develop a method for assessing sperm function by measuring released acrosin activity during the acrosome reaction (AR).

METHODSHuman semen samples were obtained from 24 healthy donors with proven fertility after 3-7 days of sexual abstinence. After collection, samples were liquefied for 30 min at room temperature. Standard semen parameters were evaluated according to World Health Organization (WHO) criteria. Calcium ionophore A23187 and progesterone (P4) were used to stimulate the sperm to undergo AR. After treatment, sperm were incubated with the supravital dye Hoechst33258, fixed in a glutaraldehyde-phosphate-buffered saline solution, and the acrosomal status was determined by fluorescence microscopy with fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled Pisum sativum agglutinin (FITC-PSA). The percentage of sperm undergoing AR (AR%) was compared to sperm acrosin activities as assessed by spectrocolorimetry. The correlation between AR% and acrosin activity was determined by statistical analysis.

RESULTSThe AR% and released acrosin activity were both markedly increased with A23187 and P4 stimulation. Sperm motility and viability were significantly higher after stimulation with P4 versus stimulation with A23187 (P < 0.001). There was a significant positive correlation between released acrosin activity and AR% determined by FITC-PSA staining (r=0.916, P < 0.001).

CONCLUSIONSpectrocolorimetric measurement of released acrosin activity might serve as a reasonable alternative method to evaluate AR.

Somatic gene V617F mutation in JAK2 is a critical molecular and biological indicator to diagnosis of chronic myeloproliferative disease (MPD). This study was aimed to investigate the genetic background of V617F mutation in 46/1 gene haplotype in Chinese MPD patients, and the frequencies of 46/1 gene haplotype and V617F mutation in three nationalities of Chinese populations. Peripheral blood or bone marrow samples of 150 V617F mutation positive MPD patients, 123 V617F mutation negative MPD patients, 124 healthy Han individuals, 395 healthy Tibetan individuals and 315 healthy Yugu individuals were collected. The allele-specific multiplex PCR method was established, the presence or absence of V617F mutation, the presence or absence of 46/1 haplotype, and the relationship between V617F and 46/1 haplotype were easily identified by agarose gel image. The results showed that the V617F mutation located in the 46/1 haplotype of 88 cases (58.67) among 150 V617F-positive MPD cases. In 814 Chinese healthy individuals including Han, Tibetan, Yugu nationalities, the frequency of the 46/1 gene haplotype was 38.37 without difference in the frequency among different nationalities, and no V617F mutation was found in Chinese healthy populations, The frequency of the 46/1 gene haplotype was 43.09 in V617F mutation negative MPD patients and was 69.33 in V617F mutation positive MPD patients, the latter was obviously higher than former and than that in healthy Han individuals. In conclusion, a multiplex PCR method has been developed that is simple and useful to identify V617F mutation in JAK2 gene and its relationship to the 46/1 haplotype. In more than half of Chinese V617F-positive MPD patients, the V617F mutation locates in 46/1 haplotype in JAK2. The frequencies of 46/1 haplotype are statistically insignificant among Han, Tibetan and Yugu nationality populations.

Objective To characterize the biological characteristics of natural vectors of Yesinia (Y.) pestis in China.Methods Species and genera of natural vectors of Y.pestis in China and their faunal distribution were characterized with modem insect taxonomic techniques.The ecological roles of natural vectors of Y.pestis in natural plague foci were determined according to insect ecological experiments.Results There were 63 species of natural vectors of Y.pestis including 28 major reservoirs and 35 secondary ones.Conclusion The biology characteristics of major vectors on Y.pestis and their roles in natural plague foci were defined.
