The Filipino Family Physician 2021;59(2):329-333
Background:
Medical research is undoubtedly an essential tool in improving health care. Thus, every resident physician should participate in health research activities to keep his knowledge and training up-to-date. Although research is incorporated in residency training, several studies have shown that much is still lacking in terms of the residents’ knowledge, attitude, and practices in research.
Objective:
To determine the knowledge, attitude, practices, and barriers in conducting research among resident physicians in Cagayan Valley Medical Center.
Methods:
This study utilized a descriptive survey design. Purposive sampling with total enumeration was done. A total of 108 resident trainees were included in the study. Validated questionnaires were used to assess the residents’ knowledge, attitude, practices, and barriers in conducting research.
Results:
The level of research knowledge of the resident trainees is below average, and their overall research practice is poor. On the contrary, the residents’ attitude towards research is positive. The residents’ level of research knowledge significantly differed across age (p=0.010) and year level (p=0.012). The trainees’ research attitude significantly differed in terms of current involvement in research (p=0.048). The top three barriers identified were lack of research training and skills, insufficient time allotted for research, and lack of statistical support.
Conclusion
There is a need to fill the gap between the residents’ positive attitude and their below average level of knowledge and poor practice in research. Addressing the barriers in conducting research is also needed to improve the overall standards of research among the residents.

Yonsei Medical Journal 2014;55(4):1058-1062
PURPOSE: There are gaps between the treatment guideline and clinical practice of osteoporosis showing low compliance. Although attitude and knowledge of prescriber have been known to be associated with the low compliance in real clinical practice, no study has assessed the knowledge of prescriber regarding osteoporosis in accordance to the level of medical institution. We compared the knowledge on osteoporosis of general practitioners with that of practitioners in a tertiary referral hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In May 2012, 40 general practitioners and 40 practitioners in a tertiary referral hospital were evaluated using a modified Facts on Osteoporosis Quiz. RESULTS: The level of knowledge of general practitioners was similar with that of practitioners in a tertiary referral hospital (p=0.386). And, both groups were lack of knowledge of effect of physical exercise. CONCLUSION: The level of knowledge on osteoporosis was not associated with the level of medical institute, and the effect of physical exercise should be stressed in an educational program on osteoporosis for practitioners.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2016;41(8):860-864
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate clinical interns' knowledge and attitude on pain management, influential factors and requirement.
METHODS:
A total of 212 clinical interns were investigated by the self-designed general condition questionnaire and the Chinese version of the knowledge and attitude survey regarding pain (KASRP).
RESULTS:
The correct answer rate for the knowledge and attitude questionnaire was (51.70±14.18)%. The education background, the condition of pain education in clinical practice and the use of pain assessment tools were the key factors that impact the scores of knowledge and attitude on pain management.
CONCLUSION
Clinical interns' perception on pain management is insufficient. It cannot meet the clinical actual needs. The medical colleges are lack of pain management education courses and standardization training. Schools and hospitals are encouraged to offer and strengthen pain education for clinical interns to create a good environment for pain treatment and to improve the management level for patients' quality of life.

5.Development of College Students' Condom Attitude Scale.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2004;34(5):751-759
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to design and evaluate a scale for measuring the attitudes toward condom use in sexual relationships. METHOD: A questionnaire was administered to 631 college students using a convenience sampling method. The psychometric properties (reliability and validity) were evaluated. RESULT: As a result of the item analysis, 16 items were selected and the internal consistency alpha coefficient was .88. Results indicated that the condom attitude scale is composed of three factors: Interruption of sexual pleasure; Protection; and Image. The three factors accounted for 59.54% of the variance in the total scale. Also, condom attitude was statistically significant (t=7.389, p=.000) between consistent condom users and inconsistent users. CONCLUSION: The results demonstrate that condom attitudes are multidimensional, and the reliability and validity of the scale was supported.

Philippine Journal of Urology 2012;22(1):22-26
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of adult Filipino males consulting in the Philippine General Hospital on vasectomy, and the affect of marital status, length of marriage, number of children, level of education, economic status, religion and type of mass -media exposure on these attitude and beliefs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. A total of 1120 adult male patients were included in the study. Data were collected using a standardized, self-administered questionnaire. Percentages and means were calculated for all variables. Analysis was done using multiple regression models.
RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 50.7 years (SD 16.5) and the mean number of children was 2.5 (SD 2.2). Of the whole sample, 363 (32.4%) have used or are currently using one from of contraception. Among the 518 (46.2%) of men who knew about vasectomy as a form of contraception, 451(87.1%) knew that vasectomy involves ligation of the vas deferens. Higher educational status, previous or current use of contraceptive and not being a Roman Catholic were shown to be statistically significantly associated with knowing about vasectomy as a form of contraception. Only knowledge about the safety of vasectomy was shown to influence men's willingness to undergo the procedure.
CONCLUSION: Improved awareness of the safety and reversibility of vasectomy may lead to increased acceptance of the procedure amongst Filipino men. Physicians play an important role in the dissemination of information about contraception, alongside the mass media, and should make efforts to ensure that adequate and accurate information is made available.

9.Survey of healthcare workers' attitudes, beliefs and willingness to receive the 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) vaccine and the impact of educational campaigns.
Koh Cheng THOON ; Chia Yin CHONG
Annals of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore 2010;39(4):307-306
INTRODUCTIONVaccination against the 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) represents the best method of controlling spread, morbidity and mortality due to the pandemic. While this has been recommended for all healthcare-workers locally, it is unclear if they are willing to accept the vaccination.
MATERIALS AND METHODSA cross-sectional survey was conducted before and after an educational talk on pandemic influenza and vaccines to ascertain responses and stated reasons, as well as identify associated factors.
RESULTSFor 235 returned forms prior to the talk, 182 (77.4%) responded positively, while 161 of 192 (83.8%) who returned forms after the talk responded positively. Importantly, 12 of 47 (25.5%) initially negative responses turned positive after education. The desire to protect family, self and patients were the 3 most important reasons for staff wanting to receive the vaccine, while the concern regarding potential side effects was the most important reason for refusal.
CONCLUSIONSA high rate of willingness to receive pandemic influenza vaccine was found, which was in contrast to acceptance rates elsewhere and during previous influenza seasons. Education can play an important role in altering vaccine acceptance behaviour, with an emphasis on addressing concerns with regard to potential side effects.

10.Relationships Between Sex Role Identity, Health Promoting Behaviors, and Premenstrual Symptoms Among Female University Students.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2007;37(6):1003-1012
PURPOSE: The role of sex role identity types and health promoting behaviors in relation to premenstrual symptoms and interrelatedness among the three variables were examined. METHODS: A cross sectional descriptive study was employed with 327 female university students. KSRI, HPLP, and MDQ were used as measurement tools. RESULTS: Four types of sex role identities were classified; undifferentiated(33.7%), androgyny (32.7%), masculinity(16.8%), and femininity(16.8%) in order. Premenstrual symptoms(F=3.11, p= .027) and health promoting behaviors(F=12.74, p= .000) were significantly different by sex role identity types. As determinants of premenstrual symptoms, health promoting behaviors for all subjects, stress coping for the feminine type, and interpersonal relationships for the undifferentiated type were identified. In discriminating between the feminine type and undifferentiated type, premenstrual symptoms and self responsibility were shown as significant factors. CONCLUSION: Interrelatedness among sex role identity, health promoting behaviors and premenstrual symptoms imply the importance of a psychosocial aspect in premenstrual symptoms. Therefore, these three variables should be applied more specifically for nursing assessment and management of women having premenstrual symptoms.
