OBJECTIVEThe aim of this study is to analyze the processing mechanism of calamine.
METHODXRD, TEM and IR were adopted to analyze the structures and the components of original and calcined calamine. Their antibacterial activities were also determined.
RESULTThe results indicated that zinc carbonate in original calamine was decomposed into zinc oxide after processing at 700 degrees C for 1 hour using original calamine of 40 mesh, and the particle size was smaller than before processing. All of ZnO, ZnCO3 and Zn5 (CO3) 2 (OH) 6 had antibacterial activitives.
CONCLUSIONOriginal calamine is deposed to ZnO after being calcined for 1 h at 700 degrees C and wet milling. The content of ZnO and antibacterial activity of calcined calamine are better than those of original calamine, moreover, the particle size diminishes and become dimensional uniformity, and the contents of dissolved impurities is decreased. The antibacterial activitives of original and calcined calamine are decided by zinc.

OBJECTIVETo assess the feasibility and outcome of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) with no veno-venous bypass (VVB) in adult patients.
METHODSBetween 1999 and June 2001, 43 adult patients were subjected to orthotopic liver transplantations with veno-venous bypass (28), or no veno-venous bypass (15).
RESULTSThere was no significant difference in mean serum creatinine on day 3 and gas discharge time in patients with veno-venous bypass or not. With no veno-venous bypass, the average operative time was 5.6 +/- 1.4 h, median amount of blood loss during operation was 4 200 +/- 850 ml, median amount of blood transfused intraoperatively was 4 800 +/- 920 ml, and median intensive care unit stay was 6.3 days. All these were lower or shorter than those of the patients with veno-venous bypass.
CONCLUSIONSOrthotopic liver transplantation with no veno-venous bypass is safe and can be performed in the majority of adult patients. Liver transplantation with no veno-venous bypass is associated with shorter total operating time, lower blood product usage, and shorter intensive care unit stay compared with standard technique of OLT with routine use of VVB.

Objective:
To investigate the association between aflatoxin exposure and primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHC) development.
Methods:
From December 2013 to May 2016, we selected 214 patients newly diagnosed with PHC as cases, and 214 patients as controls from three hospitals in Chongqing. Cases were confirmed with PHC diagnosis standard. And cases caused by clear reasons such as drug-induced liver injury, alcoholic liver damage, fatty liver and gallstones etiology, were excluded. Controls were included with no cancer and no digestive system disease, and recruited simultaneously with cases. Cases and controls were frequency-matched (1∶1) by same gender and age (±3 years). Peripheral blood and random urine samples were collected and analyzed for serum HBsAg status by biochemistry analyzer, and serum AFB1-ALB adduct and urinary AFB1-N7-GUA adduct by ELISA. Basic information, living habits and history of disease for patients were obtained by questionnaires. We used wilcoxon rank sum test to compare the median of serum AFB1-ALB adduct and urinary AFB1-N7-GUA adduct in cases and controls. Logistic regression analyses were performed to assess risk factors for PHC, and synergism index (

Objective:To understand the contents of edible salt iodine and urinary iodine of children and pregnant women in Yunnan Province, and to evaluate the iodine nutrition status, so as to provide a basis for scientific prevention and treatment of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD).Methods:From November to December 2020, one county (city) was selected from each prefecture (city), two townships (towns and streets) were selected from each county (city) and two villages (neighborhood committees) were selected from each township (town and street) from each of the 16 prefectures (cities) in Yunnan Province as the investigation sites. A total of 20 non-boarding children (male and female balanced) aged 8 - 10 years old were selected from each primary school in each village (neighborhood committee) to collect salt and urine samples. A total of 80 children were investigated in each county (city). A total of 20 pregnant women were selected from each township (town and street) to collect salt and urine samples. A total of 40 pregnant women were investigated in each county (city). All salt samples and urine samples were tested for iodine contents. Results:A total of 2 009 salt samples and 2 041 urine samples (1 375 for children, 666 for pregnant women) were collected from children aged 8 - 10 years old and pregnant women in 16 counties (cities) of Yunnan Province. Among them, the median salt iodine was 26.0 mg/kg, the coverage rate of iodized salt was 100.0% (2 009/2 009), the qualified rate of iodized salt was 98.7% (1 982/2 009), and the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 98.7% (1 982/2 009). The difference of salt iodine content in key populations in different counties (cities) was statistically significant ( H = 258.98, P < 0.01). The median urinary iodine of children aged 8 - 10 years old was 188.5 μg/L. There was statistically significant difference in urinary iodine content among children of different ages ( H = 29.45, P < 0.01), but there was no statistically significant difference in urinary iodine content among children of different genders ( H = 1.43, P > 0.05). In addition, the median urinary iodine of pregnant women was 141.9 μg/L, 52.1% (347/666) was < 150 μg/L. There was statistically significant difference in urinary iodine content of pregnant women in different counties (cities, H = 88.32, P < 0.01). Conclusions:The qualified rate of iodized salt, the coverage rate of iodized salt and the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt in key populations of Yunnan Province are more than 90%, and the iodized salt supply is good. Iodine nutrition of children aged 8 - 10 years old is at an appropriate level (100 - 199 μg/L); iodine nutrition of pregnant women is in an state of iodine deficiency ( < 150 μg/L). It is suggested to strengthen IDD monitoring and health education among key populations, improve residents' awareness of disease prevention, and make scientific iodine supplementation.

Objective:To investigate clinical characteristics of pediatric psoriasis based on the information systems from two children′s hospitals. Methods:Clinical data on outpatients confirmly diagnosed with pediatric psoriasis were collected from information systems of Beijing Children′s Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University and Children′s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019, and a clinical and epidemiological investigation was conducted. Statistical analysis was carried out by using t test and chi-square test. Results:A total of 5 235 children with psoriasis were included, with the ratio of male to female being 1∶1.08. Their age at the clinic visit ( M [ Q1, Q3]) was 8.37 (6.48, 10.50) years, and the school-age children were the most common population; their age at onset was 7.57 (5.37, 9.82) years. Among the 5 235 children with psoriasis, there were 3 195 (60.82%) with psoriasis vulgaris, 281 (5.37%) with pustular psoriasis, 19 (0.36%) with erythrodermic psoriasis, and 1 (0.02%) with psoriatic arthritis. The trunk (87.76%, 1 097/1 250) was most frequently affected, followed by the limbs (87.68%, 1 096/1 250) , the scalp (62.56%, 782/1 250) , and the face and neck (35.76%, 477/1 250) . Among the 5 235 patients, 4 319 (82.50%) received topical treatments, 177 (3.38%) received systemic treatments, and 832 (15.89%) were treated with antibiotics. Among 3 497 children who received initial treatment regimens, the disease could be controlled in 3 423 (97.88%) without change in treatment regimens, while treatment regimens needed to be adjusted in 2.12%. Conclusions:In the two children′s hospitals, most children with psoriasis developed this condition and visited the clinic at school age, and the predominant clinical type was psoriasis vulgaris. Most skin lesions were extensive, and commonly occurred on the trunk and limbs. Scalp involvement was not uncommon. The condition could be controlled by topical treatments in most children with psoriasis, while a few patients needed systemic treatments.
