OBJECTIVETo investigate the changes in the structure and function of the carotid artery and their relationship with subclinical inflammation in patients with H-type hypertension.
METHODSSixty patients with H-type hypertension and 49 with non-H-type hypertension were enrolled in this study, with 20 healthy volunteers as the control group. All the subjects underwent color Doppler ultrasound examination of the carotid artery, and their blood levels of hyper-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), fibrinogen (FIB), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measured to investigate the correlation between the structural and functional changes of the carotid artery and the inflammatory factors.
RESULTSNo significant difference was found in the blood pressure level between the H-type and non-H-type hypertension groups (136.0∓10.1 vs 131.9∓7.0 mmHg for systolic blood pressure, P>0.05; 80.9∓8.9 vs 73.2∓7.9 mmHg for diastolic pressure, P>0.05). The intima-media thickness, distensibility of the common carotid artery, carotid artery stiffness, and blood homocysteine level all showed significant differences between patients with H-type and non-H-type hypertension (1.52∓0.08 vs 1.09∓0.06 mm, 0.23∓0.14 mmHg(-1)×100 vs 0.46∓0.14 mmHg(-1)×100, and 15.37∓5.89 vs 8.19∓4.53 µmol/L, respectively, P<0.05). The H-type hypertensive patients showed significantly higher hs-CRP, FIB, and TNF-α levels than the non-H-type hypertensive patients, and these inflammatory factors were positively correlated with the structural and functional changes of the carotid artery.
CONCLUSIONThe patients with H-type hypertension are more likely to have carotid artery structure and function impairments, which closely correlate with the subclinical inflammatory factors. These changes might be attributed to the synergism of subclinical inflammation and hyperhomocysteinemia, for which active intervention may prove beneficial.

Objective To investigate the effects of acute reserpine-induced pain and depression co-morbidity model on behavior and related inflammatory cytokines in rats. Methods Twelve male 8-week-old SD rats were randomly divided into control group and model group,6 in each group. Rats in the model group were intraperitoneally injected with reserpine(1 mg/kg/d)for 3 days to establish the model. Rats in the con-trol group were injected with the same amount of distilled water. The pain threshold of rats was measured by Von Frey Hairs and Hot Plate Analgesia Test. The depression behavior of rats was evaluated by open-field test,Forced Swimming Test and Sucrose Consumption Test. Serum IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18 and TNF-α content were detected by ELISA. Results Compared with the control group(1d (15. 00±0. 00) g;3d ( 13. 20±4. 03)g),the PWTs of the model group (1d (6. 20±0. 45) g;3d (4. 20±1. 64) g) decreased significantly(t=44. 00,4. 63,both P<0. 05). Compared with the control group (( 8. 82 ± 1. 08) s),the PWTL (( 3. 16 ± 0. 24)s) was significantly reduced on the first day in model group,and the difference was statistically signifi-cant (t=11. 48,P<0. 05). Compared with the control group (( 1 815. 18± 541. 40) cm,(98. 20± 26. 25) s, (87. 78±9. 38)g),the total distance of the open-field test ((948. 91±494. 35)cm)significantly shortened (t=2. 64,P<0. 05),swimming time ((143. 60±21. 45)s) was significantly prolonged (t=-2. 65,P<0. 05), and the sucrose consumption (( 22. 23 ± 6. 97) g) significantly decreased (t=12. 55,P<0. 05) in model group. Compared with the control group (( 285. 80 ± 11. 93) ng/ml, ( 233. 07 ± 8. 47) ng/ml,( 280. 41 ± 14. 31) ng/ml,( 213. 10 ± 33. 87) ng/ml), serum levels of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18, TNF-α in model group ((471. 23±24. 15) ng/ml,(364. 82±17. 16) ng/ml,(471. 81± 28. 98) ng/ml,(821. 19±93. 16) ng/ml) increased significantly(F=-15. 39,-15. 39,-13. 24,-13. 72,all P<0. 05). Conclusion A large number of intraperitoneal injections of acute reserpine can cause hyperalgesia,depressive behavior and serum inflamma-tory factors in rats,effectively simulating the symptoms of pain and depression,and can be used as a model of pain and depression comorbidity for biological mechanisms and treatment research.

Objective This study aims to investigate the role of genes related to fatty acid metabolism in periodon-titis through machine learning and bioinformatics methods. Methods Periodontitis datasets GSE10334 and GSE-16134 were downloaded from the GEO database, and the fatty acid metabolism-related gene sets were obtained from the GeneCards database.Differentially expressed fatty acid metabolism-related genes(DEFAMRGs)in periodontitis were screened using the"limma"R package.Functional enrichment and pathway analyses were conducted.Recursive Feature Elimination,Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator, and Boruta algorithm were used to determine hub DEFAMRGs and construct diagnostic models with internal and external validation.Subtypes of periodontitis relat-ed to hub DEFAMRGs were constructed using consis-tency clustering analysis.CIBERSORT was used to ana-lyze immune cell infiltration in gingival tissues and ex-plore the correlation between hub DEFAMRGs and im-mune cells. Results A total of 113 periodontitis DE-FAMRGs were screened out as a result. The enrichment analysis results indicate that DEFAMRGs are mainly associat-ed with immune inflammatory responses and immune cell chemotaxis.Finally,8 hub DEFAMRGs(BTG2,CXCL12,FABP4,CLDN10,PPBP,RGS1,LGALSL,and RIF1)were identified and a diagnostic model(AUC=0.967)was con-structed,based on which periodontitis was divided into two subtypes. In addition, there is a significant correlation be-tween hub DEFAMRGs and different immune cell populations, with mast cells and dendritic cells showing higher cor-relation.Conclusion This study provides new insights and ideas for the occurrence and development mechanism of periodontitis and proposes a diagnostic model based on hub DEFAMRGs to provide new directions for diagnosis and treatment.
