1.Population and reproductive health program in China lessons and experiences
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2004;0(8):5-7
Population and reproductive health program in China was focusing on family planning and reproductive health and would be switch to population and sustainable development in the next years, and these also were general orientations confirmed in the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and would be continued in the next period begun from 2004. To implement these orientations, Chinese government introduced policies and legislations for people. China has reached many achievements of population and family planning tasks. From policies and achievements of China, author pointed out some experiences for other countries, especially for Vietnam

2.Quick diagnosis of japanese encephalitis by MAC-ELISA technique
Journal of Practical Medicine 2004;481(6):5-6
On 138 serum samples taken in the first 7 days of acute syndrome of brain, by MAC-ELISA technique 95 samples were determined as positive, 68.84% was positive. 43 samples taken in the first 7 days of the disease there was no detected antivirus IgM antibody but this could not concluded as negative, but may be a late antibody response or may be another cause of acute brain syndrome. For assuring the accuracy of the diagnosis, the samples taken in the first 7 days of the disease must be taken again after 7 day to verify the results.

3.Living donor liver transplantation - achievement in Asian countries and recent problems
Journal Ho Chi Minh Medical 2004;8(3):128-137
Living donor liver transplantation - achievement in some great Asian centres as follows: There were 306 cases of liver transplantation for 292 patients at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong Medical College, from October 1991 to September 2003; There were 148 cases of living donor liver transplantation at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung, Taipei from June 1994 to October 2003; There were 227 cases of living donor liver transplantation at Tokyo Medical Centre, Japan, from Jan. 1996 to June 2003; In 2002 there were 127 cases of living donor liver transplantation at Asan Medical Centre, Seoul, Korea. Living donor liver transplantation technique was made at some Asian Hospitals, mostly at Asan Medical Centre of Korea. It is different from european countries, most of liver transplantation in Asian were taken from the living donors

4.Study on risk factors of HIV transmission among men who have sex with men in Ho Chi Minh city
Journal of Practical Medicine 2004;487(9):31-33
Study 600 men who have sex with men (MSM) over 15 years old in Ho Chi Minh City. Results: MSM group had complex sexual relations by oral sex and anal sex, with female partners and sex workers, and often used drugs. It’s necessary to have some intervention approaches in order to decrease HIV infection in this group.

5.The protecting effect on liver of Vietnam’s Linh chi mushroom (ganoderma lucidum) on rat suffering from expreimental liver function failure
Journal of Medical Research 2003;24(4):29-34
On white rats, high doses of paracetanol (2g/kg of body mass) and carbonetetrachloride (CCl4 –1.4ml/kg body mass administrated orally) increased dramatically serum transaminase AST and ALT, reduced liver capacity of cholesterol and total protein synthetizations. Granulous degeneration, lipid degeneration and necrosis focus were observed pathohistologically. Linh chi mushroom fluid extracts with the dose of 4g/kg of body mass reversed these biochemical indicators and restored nearly normally the damaged tissues. Similar results were obtained with the oral dose of 25mg Silimarin brand name preparation/kg body mass.

6.Preliminary assessment of the side effects of some chemotherapy to treat malignant diseases of hematopoietic organs
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;450(4):49-51
From 1995 to 2002, 364 courses of chemotherapy with different regimens, almost gave various side effects such as leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, hypohemoglobin, increase of liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT,…), enhance urea, creatinine level, nausea, alopecia… with different severity and incidence. The common regimans with more significant side effects were Doxorubicin + AraC (P3), MOPP (P2), CHDP (P1) and VAD (P4); the regimens AraC + Depersolon (P7), Hydrea + AraC (P6) and particularly Hydrea alone (P5) gave usually less side effects

7.Electrolyte disorder in heart failure patients
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;450(4):57-59
At Cho Ray Hospital – Ho Chi Minh city from Dec 2001 to Dec 2002, 228 heart failure cases (96 males, 130 females, aged 58.4317.45) were studied. Their associated conditions were: 14 with diabetes, 5 brain blood infactus, 5 hyperthyroidies, 19 kidney failures. Among 162 patients with electrolyte disorders, 25 were died, the rate of hyponatremia and hyperkalemia was significantly higher in fatal group than in survival group. Hyponatremia was fatal risk factor and it should pay great attention to treat this condition with hypertonic natrium solution

8.Microbiological diagnostic capability of provincial centers for preventive health
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2004;14(1):36-40
The author collected data by interviewing the leader of centers and chef Laboratory Department of provinces/cities about microbiological test ability of Preventive Medical Centers in 2003. The results showed that Laboratory Departments of Preventive Medical Centers were known thoroughly about base techniques such as culture-isolation, ELISA. The modern methods, techniques in immunology and molecular biology had not developed widespread at centers: PCR was 2.3%, erythrocyte agglutination reaction was 16%. The most provinces could take samples, accurate diagnosis by culture-isolation, biochemical reaction to gastrointestinal bacterium, and some respiratory bacterium. Some disease-induced viruses were: Arbo virus (Dengue, Japanese encephalitis B) and hepatitis B virus, HIV by ELISA technique

9.Outline of technical support for Bac Can centre of preventive health
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2004;14(5):50-53
Bac Can Centre of Preventive Health has not established the required departments as set forth in decision numbered 2468/1999/QD-BYT yet. There was a shortage of specialized staff, in terms of the number and quality. Moreover, the center' facilities and equipment have not been as proper as its functions. The centers' capacity has concentrated on the scope of epidemic control, health program management, and information technology application. Technical support will be provided with the mode of hand-on-practice for certain subjects

10.Comparison of cerebral angiography and transcranial doppler sonography in ischemic stroke
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2003;8(4):203-206
At the Department of internal neurology of Cho Ray Hospital from Dec 2000 to Jan 2003. 130 patients with acute hemisphere cerebral ischemic stroke were studied. Among them, 34 patients could not evaluated by transcranial Doppler sonography, only 79 had transcranial Doppler sonography (TDS) results and MRI results, which confirmed cerebral infarctus. TDS found 30 normal cases, 28 cases with asymmetric indices reduced, 18 cases increased, 1 case of localized acceleration, 2 cases of obstructive cerebral artery in the side of clinical symptom. MRI found 17 normal cases, 62 cases of stricture of cerebral arteries. Sensitivity and specificity of TDS accounted for 74.2% and 82.4% in comparing with cerebro-vascularogramme made by MRI.
