3.The antibiotic resistance of E.Coli isolated from children with diarrhea and without diarrhea in HaNoi
Journal of Practical Medicine 2004;490(10):19-20
600 pediatric patients including 300 children with diarrhoea were treated at Ha Noi St Paul Hospital. There were a high rate of E.coli causing diarrhoea in children (21%) among than EACE had got the highest (8%) and EHEC the lowest (0,5%). E.coli was highly sensitive to antibiotics of the groups quinolone cefatexin, amikacin and was highly resistent with chloramphenicol, co.trimoxazole. E.coli could be multi resistent to 6 antibiotics, but the most common was 2 antibioresistancies.

4.Study the origin of acute enterotoxigenic E.coli diarrhea in children aged 0-5 years old
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;510(4):66-68
Study on 2483 children aged 0-5 years old with acute diarrhea at Ba Vi district (Ha Tay province), St Paul Hospital, and Thanh Tri district (Ha Noi). Results: prevalence of children aged 0-5 years old with acute diarrhea due to ETEC accounted for 6.4% of all diarrhea children. Majority of diarrhea children caused by ETEC alone (82.3%), most of ETEC diarrhea patients were due to LT ETEC (61.4%). ETEC-related diarrhea characterized loose stool, mild and moderate dehydration, fatigue (83.1%), anorexia (74.65%), and abdominal pain (70.6%). Disease developed quickly, with the mean time of 3.23±1.13 days. The prevalence is higher in summer and autumn.

Journal of Medical Research 2007;47(1):13-19
Background: Peripheral blood stem cells are today the mains source of cells for transplantation. The number of CD34 in peripheral blood of adult healthy volunteers is very low, so we have to mobilize. Objectives: To apply a protocol to collect CD4 cells in peripheral blood of normal donors mobilized by using G-CSF. Subjects and method: G-CSF (Leukokin) at a dose 10 mcg/kg/day was injected subcutaneously in 5 consecutive days for mobilization CD34 from 5 healthy donors. Count the number of CD34 everyday and collect CD34 cells in 5th ?6th day by automated blood cell separator (COBE-Spectra), observed clinical and hematilogy, biochemistry symtoms spontaneously. Results: The number of CD34 harvested is 215,5 ?570,2 x 106 CD34/donor. Almost other of parameters of hematology and biochemistry of donors were normal after one week from the last separation. Conclusion: Mobilization with G-CSF and aphaeresis of periphral blood stem cell from normal donors is feasibility and safety. The number of CD34 can be to allograft for an adult patient.

Journal of Medical Research 2008;58(5):45-50
Background: Mitral valve diseases are the most frequent in the cardiac valvular acquired diseases. Valvuloplasty is a very good surgical treatment, also its techniques are difficult. Objective: (1) To describe features of valvular lesion and technique of valvuloplasty. (2) To evaluate the effects of these operations. Subject and Method: 95 cases of mitral valve reconstruction were studied and described retrospectively about pre- operative features, mitral valvuloplasty, and post-operative results. Results: Pre-operative cardiac failure >=2 nd level (NYHA) is 96.8%, with 100% of mitral valve insufficiency, 28.4% associated with valvular stenosis. Mean age of patient is 34.5 +/- 13.2. Each case must do an average 4/15 valvuloplasty techniques, the most frequent are: mitral valvular ring (67.4%), commissurotomy (57.9%), cordage section (45.3%)… Early post – operative result is very good: no mortality, mitral valvular function is improved significantly than pre-operative (p<0.001), no severe mitral stenosis or insufficiency. Long-term post operative control (3 months, 3 years, 5 years post – operation) present the stability of this valvuloplasty with high survival frequency (96.8% in 3 months, 96.2% in 3 years, 93.4% in 5 years), in the 78.5% ranges a good level, re-operation is only required in 3 cases with valvular replacement. Conclusions: Although the difficult technique of valvuloplasty – especially in rheumatic lesion, mitral valve reconstruction is a good and safe technique to treat the mitral valve diseases.

Journal of Surgery 2007;57(3):14-20
Background: Flail chest is a severe condition of thoracic trauma, and it requires diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. From year 2000, we developed an improved technique of open fixation in order to adapt the situations of Vietnam health settings. Objectives: To report preliminary results of application of improved open fixation technique in Viet Duc Hospital from 2001 to 2006. Subjects and method: This descriptive, prospective and retrospective study involved 19 patients with flail chest due to closed thoracic trauma or multiple traumas, treated by open fixation technique. The parameters included features of patients, characteristics of this technique and postoperative progression. Results: Of 19 patients, there were 16 males and 3 females, mean age: 47.8 years. All patients presented obvious signs of flail chest preoperatively, but only 9 cases were treated by open fixation technique and pleural drainage immediately. This technique canbe applied in all sugical settings with single local anaesthesia, and any kind of common surgical threads. The most suitable initial pulled weight is 2000 g. All cases of flail chest required pleural drainage. All patients had good outcomes with open fixation technique, no death. There were 3 patients with postoperative complications, all were severe multiple trauma patients. Conclusion: Improved open fixation technique applied in Viet Duc Hospital is simple, effective and safe, and can be widely used in all surgical settings.

Journal of Medical Research 2008;54(2):92-96
Background: In Vietnam, the HIV/AIDS pandemic is quickly spreading, almost totally in young people and among injecting drug users. The transition phase from smoking to injecting is very important for the life of injecting drug users because it is a risk factor of disease transmission. Objectives: (1) To analyze the transition phase from smoking/sniffing to injecting of the young male heroin users in Ha Noi. (2) To describe some factors related to the transition phase in these people. Subjects and method: A cross-sectional study carried out from September 2004 to September 2005 at 9 districts in Ha Noi city. The subjects were 1115 young men aged 16 to 29 years, who has been living in Ha Noi for over 6 months and smoked/sniffed heroin within the last 30 days. Results and conclusions: The average time of drug user in the 1115 subjects was 4.7 years. The majority started using drug at the age of 18.4 +/- 3.1 years. In which, 71 % consume the drugs by injection. The average time from smoking to injecting is 2.49 +/- 2.2 years. The main reasons for injecting drugs were for being faster ‘on the height’ (42%) and cheaper (40%). Some factors related to the transition phase included: age of the first heroin use, year of the first heroin use, situation for migrating into Ha Noi, knowledge level, the kind of drug used for the first time. Young people began using heroin in the year 2000 had a quicker transition phase than those using heroin before 1997 (p< 0.01).
