OBJECTIVE:To study chemical compounds of Monoraphidium dybowskii, and to investigate the in vitro antibacte-rial and antioxidant activities of isolated compounds. METHODS:The ethanol extract of M. dybowskii were extracted with aether petrolei, ethyl acetate and n-butyl alcohol. The ethyl acetate extract was separated from M. dybowskii and chemical components were analyzed by sillica gel column chromatogram,HPLC and GC-MS. Their structures were identified according to physicochemi-cal properties and NMR. MIC of 4 isolated compounds to Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Candida albicans,Bacillus subtilis and Esche-richia coli were determined by resazurin disc test. Free radical scavenging rate(concluated by IC50)and reducing capacity were mea-sured by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-diazanyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. RESULTS:Compounds 1-6 were obtained from E4 and E5 segments of ethyl acetate extract of M. dybowskii, and their structures were identified as stigmas-terol,diisonoyladipate,indole-3-carboxylic acid,(+)-epiloliolide,(-)-loliolide,5-hydroxy-3,4-dimethy-5-pentyl-2(5H)-furanone. MIC of compounds 3-6 were 10-500 μg/mL,and IC50 ranged 22.02-71.01 μg/mL;FRAP ranged (62.04 ± 5.36)-(281.22 ± 8.3) μmol/L. CONCLUSIONS:M. dybowskii contains multiple lipid and alkanoic acid, and possesses certain in vitro antibacterial and antioxidant activities.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Compound Tongtu Granule (CTG) on intestinal permeability in elderly sepsis patients.
METHODSEighty elderly sepsis patients were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group by randomized double blinded method, 40 in each group. On the basis of conventional antiseptic treatment program, patients in the experimental group took CTG, while those in the control group took placebos. The dosage for CTG or placebos was 14.3 g each package, one package each time, twice daily for 14 successive days. Patients' abdominal symptoms and signs, levels of serum inflammatory factors (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and procalcitonin), levels of plasma endotoxin, and the intestinal permeability (IP, represented by urinary lactulose/mannitol excretion rate) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.
RESULTSAfter 14-day treatment, patients in the experimental group had improved abdominal symptoms, increased frequency of defecation, significantly decreased levels of plasma endotoxin and IP, when compared with the control group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONCTG could improve the intestinal barrier function in elderly sepsis patients.

A female patient diagnosed with acute myelocytic leukemia M5a (AML-M5a) relapsed 986 days after her allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (allo-PBSCT) from an unrelated male donor with matched human leukocyte antigen (HLA). Three re-induction chemotherapies were administered, and partial remission was achieved. The patient was given repetitive infusion of cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells expanded from recipient peripheral mononuclear cells of full donor chimerism due to loss of contact of quondam donor for donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI) and rejection of second transplantation. The patient achieved complete cytogenetical remission. This strategy might overcome the obstacle of donor unavailability and present an appealing new therapeutic alternative to donor-recruited adoptive immunotherapy for relapsed disease at post-transplantation.
