Inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) has an aberrantly high expression in multiple cancer tissues, including colon cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, and so on, which is closely related to cancer aggressiveness and poor clinical outcomes in cancer patients. It has been reported that ID1 maintains colorectal cancer cells (CRCs) stemness traits and contributes to the CRC drug resistance. While, the biological molecular mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In this research, we found that ID1 upregulates octamer binding transcription factor (OCT4) protein level as well as OCT4 signaling pathway

Objective To establish animal model of arterial vulnerable plaques for molecular imaging study. Methods Fifteen New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into high lipid diet+balloon-injury group (A),high lipid diet group (B)and regular diet group (C).Ultrasound (US)and magnetic resonance (MR)imaging were used to dynamically observe the formation of plaque in abdominal aorta. Results were compared with blood lipid level and pathological indicators. Results At 4 weeks, several plaques could be seen in group A.The plaque number increased rapidly and reached to 22 at 12 weeks, which was in parallel with the change of blood lipid. Only a few plaques were observed in group B,while no vulnerable plaque was revealed in group C.All the plaques were judged to be soft plaques on US and MR images, which was consistent with the macrophages gathering and smooth muscle cell proliferating in plaques. Conclusion High lipid diet+balloon-injury is an ideal method to build animal model for molecular imaging of atherosclerotic plaque.

Objective To investigate the effect of ultrasound- guided percutaneous injection of lauromacrogol in treating hepatic hemangiomas. Methods During the period from June 2010 to Jan. 2013 at authors’ hospital, a total of 32 patients with hepatic hemangiomas were treated with ultrasound-guided percutaneous injection of lauromacrogol. The largest lesion was 6.0 cm × 5.6 cm in size, and the smallest lesion was 3.0 cm × 2.6 cm in size. Before and after the treatment ultrasonography, hepatic functions and measurement of tumor size were performed, and the results were evaluated. Results A total of 54 times of puncturing were carried out for the 32 patients. Three times of puncturing were made in 2 cases , two times of puncturing in 18 cases, and single time of puncturing in 12 cases. Complete cure was achieved in 25 cases (78.1%) and effective result was obtained in 7 cases, with an effective rate of 100%. After the treatment, all patients complained of different degrees of pain at hepatic region, which were relieved spontaneously. Two patients developed fever (37.5 - 38.5℃), and after physical cooling the body temperature fell to normal within two days. One patient developed mild nausea and vomiting, which disappeared after symptomatic treatment. No severe complications occurred. Conclusion Ultrasound- guided percutaneous injection of lauromacrogol is a simple, safe and effective treatment for hepatic hemangiomas. Besides, this technique has no serious complications.

To evaluate the treatment effect of the late avascular necrosis of femoral head with concentrated autologous bone marrow and impaction autologous bone graft. The clinical data of 35 patients with late avascular necrosis of femoral head treated with the above methods was analyzed retrospectively with the University of Pennsylvania staging system, and evaluated with Harris hip score system. Among the 35 patients, there were 8 at stage Ⅲ, 23 at stage Ⅳ and 4 at stage Ⅴ. The preoperative Harris hip scores ranged from 43-72 with the average scores of 49. The patients were followed up for at least one year with the mean time of 2 years and 3 months. Two patients (preoperative at stage Ⅴ) had received total hip replacement duo to severe pain and ostarthritis. The imageology in 5 patients showed that the femoral head appearance collapsed little compared with that before operation, but their subjective feelings were well. All the femoral heads of left patients remained the shape after operation, complains of pain disappeared or lessened. The overall successful rate was 94% (33/35). In Harris scale, there was 1 patient with 92 scores, 17 with 80-89 scores, 3 with 70-79 scores and 2 patients

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2011;29(3):239-243
Background Hypertension, ischemia and hypoxia induce the increase of glutamate level in eye tissue and furthermore produce excitatory damage and apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells(RGCs).At present, the study on the protection of traditional Chinese medicine on glutamate-induced retinal excitatory damage is lack.objective Present study was to explore the protective effects of Huoxue huayu decoction,a Chinese herbal recipe,on RGCs in acute ocular hypertension model. Methods Fony-five healthy clean Wistar rats were divided into three groups randomly. The acute ocular hypertension models were established in 40 Wistar rats by injecting the normal saline solution into the anterior chamber to elevate the intraocular pressure for 60 minutes.Huoxue huayu decoction of 4 ml was administered intragastrically once per day in 20 model rats.Other matched 5 normal Wistar rats served as normal control group. The rats were sacrificed on 1,3,7 and 14 days after modeling and the retinas were isolated for the histopathologieal and uhrastructure examination.Expression of glutamate transporter in the retina of acute ocular hypertension and normal rat retina were detected using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The utilization of animals followed the Association for Research in vision and Ophthalmology. Results After acute ocular hypertension.the retina thickness attenuated and the numbers of RGCs decreased under the light microscope in 1,3,7 and 14 days after modeling in comparison with normal control rats. The degradation of the organelle and edema as well as changes of cell nuclei were seen in model rats under the transmission electron microscopy. The expression of glutamate transporter mRNA in model group and glutamate transporter group was rapidly elevated in the first day (P<0.05),descended at the third days(P<0.01)and returned to the normal level 7 days later(P>0.05).Conclusion Huoxue huayu decoction can protect the retina against RGCs damage in the acute ocular hypertension by elevating the expression of glutamate transporters in retina.
