1.Preliminary investigation on some biological effects of leaves of excoecaria cochinchinensis Lour Euphorbiaceae
Pharmaceutical Journal 2001;298(2):20-21
The leaf of the "Don la do" excoecaria cochinchinensis Lour Euphorbiaceae is used in traditional medicine for treating of allergy, pustule, eruption... The biological experiments have revealed: the "Don la do" extract, the crude flavonoid extract, the crude saponin extract, the leaf juice, the pure flavonoid F1 have actions on positive gram strains, and on fungi. The "Don la do" extract has not acute toxicity

2.Primarily result of study on the chemical components of the medicinal herb Excoecaria cochinchinensis Lour
Pharmaceutical Journal 2001;298(2):9-10
'Don la do' used in Vietnam was identified as being Excoecaria cochinchinensis Lour. Euphorbiaceae. The Don la do extract is a traditional medicine for treatment of pustule, eruption, allergy. The chemical analysis confirmed the Don la do extract contains flavonoid, saponin, coumarin, tanin, anthraglycosid, but without containing alcaloids, fatty acid, organic acids, heart glycosid. Total flavonoid content is 1.5%. Have extracted and isolated a substance F1, by preparative thin layer chromatography

3.Some observations about the endoscopic diagnosis of colon cancer
Journal of Practical Medicine 1998;344(1):44-48
This prospective study was conducted with 159 patients of colon cancer who underwent an endoscopy and an operation at the Hospital K in Hanoi. Most frequent symptoms were abdominal pain -81.8%, change of rectal habit- 74.2%, large bowel obstruction-12.6%. The symptoms were lasting for 10.7 months. Rigid endoscopy was performed on 11.3% of patients; and flexible on 88.7%. A majority of tumors -55.99%, were detected in sigmoid colon, 25.9% were necrotic tumors. Synchronous polyps were found in combining with 23.3% of tumors. Endoscopic accuracy reached to 96.9%. In conclusion, endoscopy is the method of choice for detecting the colon cancer

4.Situation of enviromental sanitation in ThuaThien-Hue province
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2000;10(4):28-31
Cross-sectional surveys were carried out in ThuaThien-Hue province successively in 1993, 1997 and 2000. Percentage of households using tap water in Hue city: 1993: 71.6%; 1998: 76.9%; 2000: 87.5%. However the percentage of households having clean latrines was still low: 1993: 49.3%; 1998: 63.3%; 2000: 52.9%. This was due to the damages caused by the severe flood, which occurred in November - December 1999.

5.Treatment of bone fracture in children by the metaizeau’s flexible wire
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 1998;225(9, 10):14-16
Fracture of the shaft of femur and tibia in children aged from 4 to 17 sometimes caused the problem in reduction and immobilization and needed an osteosynthesis. Among the internal fixation procedures, intramedullary nailing by using Metaizeau’s flexible wire under C-arm control showed the best way and the best choice. 30 fractures of the shaft of femur and tibia failed in conservative treatment have been operated by above methods with successful results since Jan-1996 to February-2000 in Saint-Paul hospital. The advantages of the method were noted as no opening fracture focus, no bleeding, no risk of infection, short stay in hospital and no need of cast immobilization. So patients will come back soon to theirs activities and school.

6.Incidence of H. pylori infection in gastroduodenal ulcer patients
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2000;(4):29-31
To study the proportion of H. pylori infection in classes of patients with gastroduodenal ulcer, 4 methods were used simultaneously: culture, urease test, Gram stain and histology. The results found that the proportion of H. pylori infection is highest in duodenal ulcer or duodenal ulcer combining with gastritis, gastric ulcer combining with duodenitis (91.7% - 100%). In gastric ulcer or gastritis only, the positive proportion is 54-65% by culture, 54-56% by urease test, 63-82% by Gram stain, 37-52% by histology

8.An outbreak of typhoid fever in a soldier camp
Journal of Preventive Medicine 1999;9(2):11-14
There were 296 cases of typhoid fever of which 52 cases admitted in hospital and no death happened in a training camp for new soldiers in 55 days outbreak. Investigated the outbreak situation at local health station and outbreak area: house, dining room, kitchen, canteen, toilet, resources of water, dung and waste. The improper dung management caused environmental pollution was the main cause of outbreak. Clinical condition was a typical and treated by common and special antibiotics had good results.

9.Study on semisynthesis and factors influencing on the process of preparation of artelinic and mete artelinic acids
Pharmaceutical Journal 1999;282(10):12-14
Some new antimalarial water soluble derivatives of artemisinin were prepared by etherification of dihydroartemisinin with appropriate aryl alcohols. They are artelinat and metaartelinat. Influence of catalists and solvent on the etherification and the antimalarial activity of them as well as artesunat were studied.

10.Effects of Macrotermes anadelei and Polyrachis dives on process of learning and memorization
Pharmaceutical Journal 2003;0(6):183-186
The water extracts of Macrotermes anadelei and Polyrachis dives were shown to improve the memorization power of rats at the dose of 10 mg/kg body weight. After the 21-days training for one trial learning avoidance test, the time the rats remained in the bright chamber was reduced to 47.2% for those received M. anadelei, and 43.6% for P. dives, not significantly lower than Ginkgo biloba (50.6%). In Morris Water Maze, both those extracts were also proved to boost the process of learning and memorization in mice.
