1.The value of CROP index in predicting the result of weaning from mechanical ventilation
Journal of Practical Medicine 2004;483(7):74-76
From December 2000 to March 2003, at Huu Nghi Hospital, 85 patients with tracheal intubation were studied. There was no statistically statistic significances between 2 groups (of success and of failure) concerning the age, predicted body mass, the duration of mechanical ventilation. The causes of respiratory deficiencies needing mechanical ventilation were: infections, cerebral infarctus, cerebral hemorrhagy, acute left heart failure, acute myocardiac infarctus, diabetes. CROP diagnostic value of weaning from mechanical vetilation was higher in success group than in failure group. Threshold value of CROP index 13 (ml/breathing rythm/minute) had got a sensitivity of 0.65, specificity 0.89, predicted positive value 0.84, negative 0.74, under curb surface ROC = 0.875.

2.Some epidemic factors and the characteristics of media otitis in Phu Vang district, Thua Thien Hue province
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;445(3):61-64
4189 persons in Phu Vang – Hue were enrolled in an inquiry on health and morbidity. Results showed that ear diseases account for 6.1%, among them media otitis trended to increase with children age; deaf and dumb 0.2%, dull 0.1%. In the right ear and left ear the incidence of media otitis was similar. Hearing capacity was less sensitive if it has media otitis of both sides. In children, extern otitis was preponderant, while in adult the main problems were buzzed ear, hearing loss, drum membrane perforation, mainly in the centre, then in ¼ infero anterior and ¼ posterioinferior, chronic media otitis 97.75%, acute 2.25%. About ¾ cases of media otitis lost hearing capacity, 28.5% had not been treated, 31.1% treated in commune health station, 25% in private physician office, 25.2% self treated at home, 18.7% in district and provincial hospital. In > 3 children family group, 81.6% and in > 5 children family group, 46.2% had media otitis

3.Cranioplasty technique using carbon composite "intost-2"
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;450(4):38-39
From Oct. 1997 to Oct. 1999 in Neurosurgery Department of St Paul Hospital, Ha Noi, 42 patients ≥ 4 years old underwent a cranioplasty for skull lacuna using carbon composite "intost-2". The pathologic postoperative conditions were 14.29% with extradural hematomas, 30.95% subdural hematomas, 54.76% cerebral wounds; located on frontal sited 40.48%, temporal 33.33%, parietal 21.43%, occipital 4.76%. Surgical produres were scar removal and cranioplasty 78.58%, scar removal and meningoplasty and skull repair 21.43%. These 42 cases were carried out succesfully with 7-10 hospital days, symptoms caused by skull lacuna were improved, only 1 case of failure

4.Epidemiological characteristics of typhoid fever for 10 years (1994 - 2003) in Dong Thap province
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2004;14(6):93-97
Morbidity and mortality of typhoid fever in Dong Thap province had reduced gradually in the last 10 years. The number of typhoid fever between 1999 and 2003 was equal to a third cases occurred between 1994 and 1998. There had been 29 of dead cases resulting from typhoid fever for ten years. The highest number of dead cases in 1995 was 6. The death to incidence ratio was 0.076%

5.Study on the inflammed fenomena and the cervical cell changes of 1520 women from 16-49 years old at 8 villages of Ha Tay province
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;456(7):25-27
150 slides of vaginal sample of married women aged 16-49 years old at 8 village of Ha Tay province were investigated. In 51.6% of subjects, there is not pathological manifestation in 48.3% - inflammative damages, then 38.6% with chronical manifestation and 12.6% with acute PaP1 account for 62.6%, PaP2: 24.5% and PaP3: 0.13%. There is not any cancerous damage. Hygiene condition, obstetrical history and venerological diseases were factors related to inflammative state and cervix cell morphology change

6.Secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients receiving hemodialysis
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2004;9(4):209-212
Evaluation of the prevalence of secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) and the effectiveness as well as side effects of calcitriol therapy in 40 chronic renal failure patients with last stage receiving hemodialysis in Thong Nhat hospital from March, 2003 to Janruary, 2004. Results: Hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia and HPT are very common in elderly patients, occurring in 100%, 82,5% and 72,5%, respectively. Analysis of patient's diet showed that 100% patients is on low protein, calcium, daily energy. 97,5% is normal or low phosphorous intake. Concentration of serum parathyroid hormone, calcium, phosphate in chronic hemodialysis patients pre and post-treatment decreased clearly, but side effects increased serum phosphate level

7.Renal interstinal tissue lesion in glomerulopathy with primary nephrotic syndrome in adults patients
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;458(8):23-24
From 1996 to 2000, 73 samples of renal biopsy in patients >16 years old with glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome were study on light microscopy. Results: the rate of minimal change glomerulopathy was highest (72.6%), then was the rate of diffuse mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis (20.6%). The rates of focal segmental glomerulonephritis, membranous proliferative glomerulonephritis, and membranous glomerulonephritis in this study were lower than the other studies. The changes in minimal change glomerulopathy are glomerular basement membrane thickened irregularly, widening and effacement of the visceral epithelial cell foot processes

9.The species of Panax L. in Vietnam
Journal of Medicinal Materials - Hanoi 2005;10(3):71-76
Study on 80 plant samples and medicinal plants stored at Specimen Department of National Institute of Medicinal Materials from 1990 until now. Results showed that: 5 species of Panax L. were recognized in Vietnam, among them 3 species grew wildly and 2 species were imported. Besides China, Vietnam, India and Nepal are three countries have 3 ginseng species which grew wildly. Among three wildly ginseng species, Panax stipulenatus is considered as new species, adding to Vietnam plant system and is endemic of Southern of China - Northern Vietnam. Panax vietnamensis Ha et Grushv is narrow endemic of the Middle area of Vietnam. The three species are especially valuable and need to be protected from extinction in Vietnam. Some samples of P.pseudoginseng Wall in Vietnam collected before 1970s were identified as Panax pseudoginseng Wall. To avoid confusion, it should be called as "pseudoginseng" or "sâm tam thất". Medicinal plant named "Tam thất" in Vietnam market at the moment, which imported from China, is P. notoginseng (Burk.) Chen. The successful P.ginseng import and grow is shedding the light on widening a new valuable medicinal plant in our country
