3.Early respiratory support for very preterm infant to prevent bronchopulmonary dysplasia
Chinese Pediatric Emergency Medicine 2016;23(12):805-810
Although respiratory distress syndrome( RDS) ,one of the most common cause of respira-tory failure in the very or extremely preterm infant, has not been yet the major disorder of death with advances of respiratory support; In fact,RDS often complicated with BPD which developed with the maturation of de-pendence,the outcome of BPD and its development step into the focus of modern NICU. Powerful evidence-based consensus and suggestions have been stated in early respiratory support for very and extremely preterm infant:Early nasal CPAP( nCPAP) should be the best alternative to intubation for very or extremely preterm infant with high-risk of RDS and RDS; Early administration of Pulmonary surfactant ( PS ) with suitable methods( InSurE,Intubation Surfactant Extubation or LISA,Less invasive surfactant administration);Individ-ual threshould for nCPAP or other noninvasive ventilation failure should be established, but early PS adminis-tration and gentle ventilation will decrease the incidence of ventilator-induced injury on failuring noninvasive ventilation;Noninvasive ventilation with the use of caffeine will short the duration of ventilation and improve the success of weaning off. All the strategies in respiratory support to prevent BPD for very preterm infant still need more practice sustain improvement since multiple causes account for the development of BPD.

7.Update on immunology associated with bacterial meningitis
International Journal of Pediatrics 2015;42(1):31-34
Bacterial meningitis is one of the most common infectious diseases of the central nervous system in childhood, with high mortality and disability rate despite available treatment.Studies have shown that the host's immunity dysfunction after the infection plays a central role in neurological sequelae. The deposition and activation of complement component C3 on the bacterial surface is a key step in the complement cascade leading to elimination of the microbe, and the level of complement component C3 or C5 in cerebrospinal fluid may predict outcome of bacterial meningitis. After the microorganisms cross the blood-brain barrier, bacterial compounds are recognized by pattern recognition receptors, triggering the production of excessive cytokines, attracting leukocytes and generating oxidative stress, which contributes to neuron injury irreversibly. This review focuses on current research progress on immunology associated with pneumococcal meningitis.
8.Application of nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen/poly(L-lactide) in posterolateral lumbar spine fusion: safety and effectiveness
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;19(30):4774-4778
BACKGROUND:Bone grafting is often needed in posterolateral lumbar spinal fusion, but bone mass is often not enough to finish this operation. Part of the autologous iliac bones from patients are needed to take as supplement. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the safety and effectiveness of application of nano-hydroxyapatite/colagen/ poly(L-lactide) for posterolateral lumbar spine fusion. METHODS:The clinical data of 52 patients with lumbar degenerative disease who had received the treatment in Meishan Orthopedics Hospital of Sichuan Province, China during February 2013 to February 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients al received posterolateral lumbar spine fusion with bone grafts made of autologous iliac bone particles and nano-hydroxyapatite/colagen/poly(L-lactide). RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Among the 52 patients, wound healing by primary intention occurred in 51 patients, increased skin temperature, skin sweling, pains and fluid leaking were not observed. The lumbar spine function and pain symptoms of patients al improved to different degrees after internal fixation, The posterolateral lumbar spine fusion rate was 13%, 54% and 84% at 3, 6 and 12 months after internal fixation respectively, and there was no pseudarthrosis. During the 12 months of folow-up period, no screw loose or displacement , adjacent segment slippage or displacement were observed in any patient. These results suggest that the application of nano-hydroxyapatite/colagen/poly(L-lactide) for posterolateral lumbar spine fusion can achieve good results. The nano-hydroxyapatite/colagen/poly(L-lactide) bone graft material is highly biocompatible and safe.
9.Importance of magnetic resonance imaging in the evaluation of newborn infants with central nervous system infection
Chinese Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2016;31(14):1052-1058
There are more complicated pathological changes in the developing brain with invasive infection of central nervous system(CNS) which absolutely play predominant role in neurodevelopmental disability and mortality in spite of a lower prevalence during neonatal period.Bacterial meningitis demonstrated by cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) culture only remain difficult since poor positive findings,in the severe condition more complications could be often found such as vasculitis, ventriculitis, cerebritis and abscess.Cerebral abscess could be found independently without abnormal CSF examination;while the cerebritis is one of the primary pathological changes in viral invasive infection of CNS,Enterovirus/human parechovirus often involved not only grey matter, but also the periventricular and subcortical white matter that sound similar to the findings of periventricular leukomalacia on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Finding the complications of CNS infections early and accurately describe pathological changes by reasonable using MRI can enhance the therapy and predictive ability.
10.Anti-myeloma STAT3 inhibitors and discovery strategies
Chinese Journal of Biochemical Pharmaceutics 2016;36(8):1-5
The STAT3 protein is a key transcription factor that delivers extracellular signals into nuclei in which it binds to a specific recognition element on DNA sequences and thus regulates the transcription of its target genes.STAT3 is almost expressed in all tissues and cells, therefore, it is extensively involved in both normal and aberrant cellular activities. For example, STAT3 plays an essential role in inflammatory reaction and tumorigenesis.STAT3 has been established as a therapeutic target of various cancers including multiple myeloma,a hematological malignancy from plasma cells. Some STAT3 inhibitors have been developed and extensively studied. In this article, we review the roles of STAT3 in multiple myeloma. The advances and strategies in the development of STAT3 inhibitors are also being discussed.
