Objective To evaluate the effects of multiloop edgewise arch wire(MEAW)technique combined with rapid maxillary expansion(RME)in correcting skeletal crossbite young adults with mandibular deviation.Methods 9 young adults with skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion and mandibular deviation were selected(4 males,5 females,aged from 16.2-18.8 years).They were all corrected with RME and MEAW techniques.Cephalometric radiographs were taken and analyzed at the pretreatment(T1)and post-treatment(T2).Students't-test was used to determine if there were significant differences between the 2 time periods.Results SNA increased by(1.4+1.7)°,SNB decreased by(0.7+0.9)°,and ANB increased by(2.1+0.9)°;U1-SN increased by(2.7+3.7)°and L1-MP decreased by(5.4+2.9)°.MP-SN and Mp-FH increased by(1.9+2.0)°and(1.1+2.6)°respectively,neither of which had significant difference.Maz-Maz' increased by(2.6+2.8)mm,while Um-Um'increased by(6.2+5.9)mm.The latter had significant difference.△Cd-Me and △Cd-Go decreased by (3.7+2.1)mm and(2.8+1.6)mm respectively;while ManDP-MSL and Me-MSL decreased by (3.8+2.3)mmand(3.6+2.5)mm,respectively.All of them had significant differences.Conclusion MEAW technique combined with RME is a clinically effective method for correcting adults with mild and moderate skeletal crossbite and mandibular deviation.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of modified interocclusal lip arch appliance in correcting primary dentition functional crossbite.Methods Twenty children with functional crossbite were selected and treated with this new method.Cephalometric radiographs were taken and analyzed at the pre-treatment time (T1) and the post-treatment time (T2).Students't-test was used to determine if there were significant differences between the 2 time periods.ResultsSNA increased by (0.35 ±1.12)°,SNB decreased by (2.53±0.91)°,and ANB increased by (2.88± 2.24)°.Ns-Sn-Pos increased by (3.32±2.14)°,Ns-Prm-Pos decreased by (3.46±2.63)°.All of the anterior crossbites were corrected and the profiles were improved satisfactorily.Conclusions Modified interocclusal lip arch appliance is a clinically effective method for correcting primary dentition functional crossbite,balancing anteroposterior jaw relationship,and improving the face profile.

Objective To investigate the relationship between CT characteristics and histological differentiation of soft tissue sar-comas.Methods Forty-two cases with pathologically proved soft tissue sarcomas were collected.The tumor size,morphology,den-sity and relationship of the tumor to the adjacent structures on CT were analyzed retrospectively.The value of the CT signs in evalu-ating the histological differentiation of the tumor was explored.Results The maximal diameter of the tumor was over 5 cm in 36 ca-ses.Oval shape was seen in 29 cases and irregular shape was seen in 13 cases.Heterogeneous density was seen in 32 cases including intratumoral calcification in 3 cases and intratumoral necrosis in 22 cases.Adjacent structures were infiltrated in 25 cases.Compared to the pathological results,intratumoral necrosis and invasion of adjacent structures were related to the degree of histological differ-entiation (P <0.05),and the relation coefficients were 0.64 and 0.57,respectively (P <0.01).Conclusion Intratumoral necrosis and invasion of adjacent structures are correlated with the histological differentiation of the soft tissue sarcomas.They may reflect the biological behavior of low-differentiated or undifferentiated soft tissue sarcomas to some extent.

Objective To study the effect of oleic acid on the morphology of cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) and on the secretive function of endothelial cell mediated by insulin or leptin. Methods The cell morphological characteristics were studied by phase microscopic observation. The changes of endothelial cell secretive function were studied by detecting the concentrations of nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin (ET-1) after endothelial cell was pretreated with oleic acid of different concentrations. Results With the increased concentration of stimulating insulin, the concentration of NO increased and ET-1 decreased gradually in a dose-dependent fashion. The profile of endothelial cell pretreated with oleic acid became darker than before. As the concentration of pretreatment oleic acid increased, the concentration of NO secreted by endothelial cell which was mediated by insulin and leptin gradually decreased in a dose-dependent fashion, but the concentration of ET-1 secreted by endothelial cell mediated by leptin decreased significantly only in the 50～100 ?mol?L -1 of pretreatment oleic acid. Conclusion Oleic acid damages endothelial cell directly and inhibits endothelial cell mediated by insulin and leptin to secrete NO. Oleic acid and insulin can directly inhibit release of ET-1 by cultured endothelial cell.

Obejective To study the effects of polysaccharide L01 from Laminaria on the expression and secretion of plasminogen activator inhibitor- 1 (PAI- 1) stimulated by adrenaline in cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Methods With adrenaline added, human umbilical vein endothelial cell line ECV- 304 was exposed to different concentrations of polysaccharide L01 of Laminaria and cultured for 24, 48, and 72 hours respectively in vitro. The levels of PAI- 1 in cultured supernants were measured with enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay( ELISA) .Reverse transcriptase chain reaction( RT- PCR) was used to detect the expression of PAI- 1 messenger RNA( mRNA) in HUVEC, and the related products were examined by density scan and half- quantitative analysis after electrophoresis. Objective To study the effects of a cirrhotic environment on the metastasis of liver cancer in mice.Methods Male BALB/c mice were randomly assigned to two groups:cirrhosis group and control group.The cirrhosis group was treated by an injection of carbon tetrachloride intraperitoneally.H22 liver cancer cells were directly implanted under the capsule of each group after cirrhosis was established.The animals were sacrificed at 1,2,and 3 weeks after the operation.The metastatic behavior of the cancer cells was observed by the naked eye and microscopically.Additionally,the adhesion ability of the liver was assessed by measuring the expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1),E-selectin,and E-cadherin.Results After the operation,the cirrhosis group showed an obvious metastatic tendency in both intrahepatic (14/19) and extrahepatic ways (4/19),compared with the control group's intrahepatic (5/17) and extrahepatic ways (1/17) (P＜0.05).Immunohistochemisty for VCAM-1 and E-selectin showed a significant increase in the cirrhosis (P＜0.05).However,there was no difference observed in the E-cadherin between the cirrhosis and control group.Conclusion A cirrhotic liver environment may promote the metastasis of liver cancer cells by increasing the ability of liver adhesion.

Objective:To analyze the association of clinical characteristics and laboratory indicators at initial maintenance hemodialysis(MHD)with long-term prognosis in advance-aged patients, and to find influencing factors for the prognosis in advance-aged MHD patients.Methods:This retrospective study was conducted at the Nephrology Department of Beijing Hospital between April 2007 and January 2018.A total of 61 patients receiving first-time hemodialysis at ≥ 80 years of age and undergone regular dialysis for 3 months or longer were enrolled.All patients were followed-up until death or the end of July 1, 2018.Patients were divided into the survivor and non-survivor groups, and differences in clinical characteristics and laboratory indicator values were compared between the two groups.Influencing factors for prognosis in advance-aged MHD patients were analyzed by using multivariate Cox regression.Results:For the 61 subjects, the median follow-up time was 25.8 months.During the follow-up, 32 patients died(52.5%). The main death causes were infectious diseases(40.6%, n=13)and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases(37.5%, n=12). The 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year cumulative survival rates were 75.4%(46/61), 54.1%(33/61), 37.7%(23/61), 22.9%(14/61)and 16.4%(10/61), respectively.The median survival time was 25.8 months for all patients, 27.5 months for patients aged 80-84 years, and 14.9 months for patients aged 85 years and over.The non-survivor group had a higher male ratio(65.6% or 21/32 vs.37.9% or 11/29, χ2=4.678, P=0.031)and lower levels of hemoglobin(85.4±13.0 vs.95.0±17.6 g/L, t=2.867, P=0.019)and albumin(30.3±5.0 vs.34.6±4.8 g/L, t=3.039, P=0.001)than the survivor group.Kaplan-Meier curves indicated that the survival rate decreased with age, and subjects aged less than 85 years had a higher survival rate than subjects aged 85 years and older(the median survival time: 14.9 months vs.27.5 months, Log Rank P=0.006); patients who received continuous renal replacement therapy(CRRT)before dialysis had lower survival rates than patients who did not receive CRRT(the median survival time: 7.8 months vs.29.2 months, Log Rank P=0.002); patients with high serum levels of albumin(≥33 g/L)had higher survival rates than patients with low serum levels of albumin(<33 g/L)(the median survival time: 29.2 months vs.18.9 months, Log Rank P=0.003). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that age at initial dialysis( HR=1.136, 95% CI: 1.005-1.285, P=0.041), female( HR=0.409; 95% CI: 0.169-0.994, P=0.048), serum albumin level( HR=0.836, 95% CI: 0.772-0.906, P<0.001)and CRRT before dialysis( HR=6.161, 95% CI: 1.848-20.538, P=0.003)were independent predictors of all-cause mortality in advance-aged patients. Conclusions:Advance-aged patients undergoing hemodialysis have complicated clinical conditions and poor prognosis.Age, gender and serum albumin level at initial dialysis and CRRT before dialysis are independent predictors of prognosis in these patients.

Objective To explore body image(BI),prosthesis satisfaction and quality of life(QOL)of amputees from Wenchuan earthquake and the relationship among them to provide evidence for the intervention.Methods A total of 21 amputees accepted a survey regarding QOL,BI,and satisfaction with prosthesis.The scale of SF-36 was used to assess QOL.Amputees Bodily Image Scale(ABIS)was;used to assess BI.A self-design questionnaire wag used to evaluate the prosthesis satisfaction of amputees.Results The scores of SF-36,ABIS,and prosthesis satisfaction wag 41.90 ±15.00,64.58 ±10.60,and 59.52±11.06,respectively.The ABIS scores in women(65.07 ±12.10)were hisher than that in men(63.20 ±5.0)(P＜0.05).There was a positive correlation between score of QOL and prosthesis satisfaction,but a negative correlation between QOL and BI.The negative correlations were also observed between BI and Vitality,BI and mental health.Prosthesis satisfaction had positive correla tions with education level.QOL and mental health.Conclusion The body image disturbance(BID)and dissatis faction with prosthesis may cause negative influences on the amputees'quality of life.Relevant intervention should be provided of amputees handling their prostheses and body images correctly and raising QOL.
