OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical efficacy difference in treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD) between syndrome differentiation based acupuncture and ordinary acupuncture.
METHODSSeventy FD patients were assigned to a syndrome differentiation based acupuncture group (Group A) and an ordinary acupuncture group (Group B) by Excel Software randomization. Zhongwan (RN12 ), Tianshu (ST25), and Zusanli (ST36) were needled as main points for patients in Group A. Meanwhile, different combined acupoints were needled according to syndrome differentiation. Only the same main points were needled for patients in Group B. All patients were needled once per day, 30 min each time, 6 days as one treatment cycle, 2 treatment cycles in total. Fasting serum levels of gastrin (GAS) and motilin (MTL) were determined before treatment and after 2 treatment cycles. 36-item Short-form Heath Survey (SF-36) and Nepean Dyspepsia Index [NDI, including Nepean Dyspepsia Symptom Index (NDSI) and Nepean Dyspepsia Life Quality Index (NDLQI)] were assessed before treatment, after 2 treatment cycles, and one month after treatment.
RESULTSCompared with before treatment in the same group, serum levels of GAS and MLT increased in the two groups after 2 treatment cycles (P <0. 05), but changes were more obvious in Group A (P <0. 05). Compared with before treatment in the same group, SF-36 and NDLQI score increased, and NDSI score decreased in the two groups after 2 treatment cycles and 1 month after treatment (all P <0. 05). Compared with Group B, SF-36 and NDLQI score increased in Group A after 2 treatment cycles and 1 month after treatment (P <0. 05, P <0. 01). But NDSI score at 1 month after treatment was lower in Group A than in Group B (P <0.01).
CONCLUSIONSyndrome differentiation based acupuncture could evidently improve dyspeptic symptoms of FD patients, and significantly improve their quality of life with remarkable curative effect.

Objective To invesgate the effect of P-glycoprotein(PGP)inhibitor,verapamil,on electrobiological activity and seizure behavior in phenytoin-carbamazepine(PHT-CBZ)resistant rats. Methods The model of medically intractable epilepsy was established by kindling of amygdale. Verapamil was applied to PHT-CBZ resistant rats, followed by the observation on after discharge threshold (ADT),after discharge duration(ADD)and seizure activity. Results Compared with the control group, the ADT was higher in PHT-CBZ resistant rats peritoneally injected with verapamil((238.0?32.2)?A vs (177.0?23.3)?A,P

OBJECTIVETo probe into a safe and effective method for treatment of functional ventricular premature, and develop a new preparation of Chinese herbs with high science and technique contents.
METHODSTwo hundred and thirty-eight cases were randomly divided into a slowly-releasing medication group (n = 118) and a western medicine group (n = 120). The slowly-control needle group were treated with intramuscular injection of slowly-releasing medication new type preparation made by proved recipe of Chinese herbs with replenishing and strengthening pectoral qi, and nourishing yin and tranquillization into Tanzhong (CV 17), Neiguan (PC 6), Xinshu (BL 15), Pishu (BL 20) and Feishu (BL 13) by a trocar to slowly release and control releasing of the medicine so as to maintain lasting stimulation; the western medicine group with oral administration of Rythmol, thrice daily, 150 mg each time.
RESULTSThe cured rate and the cured and markedly effective rate for the ventricular premature was 51.7% and 71.2% in the slowly-releasing medication group, which were significantly higher than 28.3% and 50.8% in the western medicine group (P < 0.001).
CONCLUSIONThe slowly-releasing medication new type preparation has a better therapeutic effect on functional ventricular premature, with high safety.

Objective To assess the perioperative change in Quality of Life(QoL)in patients who underwent CABG surgery. Methods The Chinese version of the SF-36 and SAQ were sent to participants at baseline and three and six months after CABG sur- gery. Results Angina stability score, one of the five SAQ domains, was lowest and postoperative SAQ domains scores were with sig- nificant improvement from baseline. Many of the dimensions of the SF-36 in postoperative patients were better than baseline. The SF- 36 was also used to evaluate in groups ONCAB and OPCAB,but no difference of the SF-36 subscale scores between the two groups was observed. Conclusion SAQ domains scores were significantly improved in three months and increased further in six months. Many of the dimensions of the SF-36 in postoperative patients were improved than baseline. No difference of the SF-36 subscale scores between the groups of ONCAB and OPCAB was observed postoperatively.

Objective To observe the differentiation of bone mesenehymal stem cells(BMSCs)cocultured with purified sinoatrial node cells(SNC)of neonate rata. Methods SNC from neonatal SD rat were cuhured and Durifted with differential attachment method and labded with BrdU.Rat BMSCs Were isolated by a Percoll's gradient solution and cultared in DMEM.After 2 passages, these BMSCs were transfected with pEGFP-N1 by Lipofectamin and labeled with GFP.EGFP-BMSC were co-cultured with SNC in a rate of 1:5 for 1 week.EGFP-BMSC cultured in SNC culture medium served as controls.SNC marker hyperpolarization activated cyclic nueleotide gated cation channel 4(HCN4) and connexin 45 (Cx45) expressions were determined by inunanofluorescence staining.Result Positive immunonuorescence staining against HCN4 and Cx45 were detected in EGFP-BMSC co-cultured with SNC but not in EGFP-BMSC cultured in SNC cuhure medium. Conclusion Direct cell-to-cell contact between BMSCs and SNC ceils may induce BMSCs differentiation into sinus node-like cells.

Objective To investigate the expression of aquaporin-4(AQP4) in secondary cerebral edema after epilepsy attack. Methods Brain specimens from 18 patients with medically intractable epilepsy and 20 control persons were collected, and the expression of AQP4 in the brain was evaluated by RT-PCR , immunohistochemistry and Western blot. Results Compared with the control group, AQP4 expression in the brain of patients with medically intractable epilepsy showed a statistically significant increase in both mRNA and protein levels (P<0.01). Conclusion AQP4 overexpression in the brain of patients with medically intractable epilepsy may be correlated with secondary cerebral edema after epilepsy attack.

Chinese Journal of Epidemiology 2003;24(10):901-904
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the use of a 7-day physical activity questionnaire in epidemiologic studies on 4-6th grades children.
METHODSFocus group discussion, observation and expert consultation were used to develop 7-day physical activity questionnaire. The reliability and validity of questionnaire were determined in a sample of 92 children in 4-6th grades who were randomly selected from four schools in urban Beijing. A two-week test-retest reliability was determined. The questionnaire was validated against experts' evaluation and Caltrac motion sensor.
RESULTSFor different measures of activity, the agreement was good between the test and retest. Kappa values ranged from 0.46 to 0.79, and the Spearman correlations ranged from 0.66 to 0.87 in boys and 0.57 to 0.82 in girls, with significant difference (P < 0.01). The face validity and content validity were good by experts' evaluation. There was no significant difference between questionnaire results and Caltrac motion sensor for both boys and girls, and the questionnaire correlated significantly (r = 0.46, 0.38 for different measures of activity) with Caltrac motion sensor for boys.
CONCLUSIONThese data provided evidence that the 7-day physical activity questionnaire yield a reliable estimate of past week physical activity for 4 - 6-grade children and provided valid estimation of past week physical activity for boys.
