Objective To understand the relationship between childhood non-intentional injury and socio-economic status (SES) in Jiangxi province. Methods Nearly 100 000 households were selected by PPS sampling method, in Jiangxi province. All children aged 0-17 years in selected households were surveyed using an 'injury questionnaire'. SES was calculated under the World Bank method. Results 98 335 children were surveyed and the identified number of non- intentional injury cases was 5429 and with 52 fatal cases. The morbidity was 5.52% and mortality was 52.88/100 000. The mortality of children with higher SES was lower than that of other groups but without statistical significance. The morbidity of moderate injury increased with the increasing SES, also without statistical significance. However, the morbidity of severe injury in male children decreased with the increasing SES. Rates of moderate injury morbidities of fall and road traffic injury also increased with the increasing SES. Moderate injury morbidity caused by animals decreased with the increasing SES. Severe injury morbidity of fall decreased with the increasing SES. Conclusion The morbidity of injury in children was affected by the SES and the relationship between injury and SES varied along with the results of different types of injuries.

OBJECTIVETo explore the morbidity, mortality, and disease burden of traffic injury in children aged 0-17 years so as to develop a related strategy on prevention.
METHODS100,000 households were selected by PPS sampling method in Jiangxi province. All children aged 0-17 years in selected households were interviewed by trained interviewers using a standardized 'traffic injury questionnaire'.
RESULTSThe overall mortality and fatality rates of traffic injury were 10.17/100,000 and 1.36% respectively while the traffic injury morbidity in children of 0-17 years old was 7.40 per thousand. Morbidity in males was 8.29 per thousand compared to 6.26 per thousand in females. Severe cases accounted for 1.79 per thousand of the total but those living in urban area appeared to be 0.93 per thousand compared to 1.88 per thousand in the rural area, with statistical significance. Pedestrian and cyclists related injuries accounted for 80.48% of all the injured children. The average medical cost per case was 1369.57 Yuan with an average of 3.63 days of hospitalization. The average days of missing school/working was 8.79.
CONCLUSIONThe morbidity and mortality among male children were higher than those among female children. The morbidity of severe traffic injury cases in children living in rural area was higher than that of children living in urban area. The disease burden of traffic injury in Jiangxi province was heavy and the development of relative intervention strategy seemed urgent in Jiangxi province.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate clinical applicability of a novel technique that can quantify the lamivudine-resistant mutants of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in the serum of patients utilizing gene microarray technology.
METHODSThe oligonucleotide microarray was designed to detect 3 important mutational positions. Fifty-one patients who were receiving lamivudine therapy were selected as subjects. The oligonucleotide microarray and traditional sequencing were applied to detect the lamivudine resistant mutation, the monitoring lasted for 24 months. Then the clinical result was analyzed and the obtained data were compared between the two methods.
RESULTSLamivudine resistant mutation was detected in 39 percent of the patients during the 2 years period. The results of the oligonucleotide microarray technique was consistent to the results of traditional sequencing in accuracy and the miroarray was more sensitive in detection of the mixed infection.
CONCLUSIONApplication of the oligonucleotide microarray for quantitative detection of lamivudine-resistant mutation of HBV is feasible.

Objective To evaluate the value of three-dimensional contrast-enhanced angiography (3D CE MRA) and MRI in the diagnosis and delineation of cerebral arteriovenous malformation(AVM). Methods Twenty-two cases of cerebral AVM examined by MRI and 3D CE,MRA.DSA was performed in 17 cases.A three-dimensional fast low angle shot (3D FLASH) was used for 3D CE MRA with Gd-DTPA dosage of 0.2 mmol per kilogram for body weight. The source images were subtracted from mask images and transferred to computer workstation using three-dimensional reconstruction. Results Among 22 cases, 19 showed typical AVM“flow void”signal on MR images.3D CE MRA clearly displayed the nidus, feeding artery and draining vein. All of the foci were above the cerebellum tentorium.13 located within one lobe, 3 exceeded one lobe and 3 situated in the deep of cerebrum.Feeding arteries were derived from single artery in 9 cases, and mixed supply in 10 cases.Draining veins diverted to sagittal sinus and/or sigmoid sinus in 6,deep cerebral veins in 8 and mixed in 5.In the 14 cases examined by both DSA and 3D CE MRA,3D CE MRA was superior to DSA in three-dimensional demonstration of the nidus, but inferior to DSA in demonstration of some details.3D CE MRA depicted 78.4% feeding arteries and 84.0% draining veins in addition, tiny pathologic blood vessels smaller than 1 centimeter were detected by DSA,but could not be found by 3D CE MRA and were only shown as hemorrhage lesions on MR images in 3 cases. Conclusion As a non-invasive technique,3D CE MRA combined with MRI is accurate in diagnosis and localization of cerebral AVM,and should be used as the first choice for those clinically suspected of AVM.But DSA remains needed for demonstration of details and tiny AVM.

Growth year is one of the important factors for the quality of Polygala tenufolia. In this study, primary metabolites and secondary metabolites were compared in 1, 2 and 3 years old P. tenufolia cultivated in Shaanxi Heyang. The samples were subjected to ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC)-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (Q-TOF MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis, and the obtained data were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and other statistical analysis methods. In addition, content and correlation of different metabolites were also calculated. The results showed no significance between main component contents in 2 year-old and 3 year-old P. Tenufolia, but 1 year-old was statistically different. The contents of primary metabolites, such as fructose, sucrose, and choline increased as time goes on, while glycine and raffinose decreased. The contents of secondary metabolites, such as onjisaponin Fg, polygalasaponin XXVIII, polygalasaponin XXXII increased, while polygalaxanthone III and parts of oligosaccharide multi-ester including tenuifoliose A, tenuifoliose C, tenuifoliose C2 and tenuifoliose H decreased with the extension of the growth years. Growth years has important impact on the quality of P. tenuifolia and the existing growing years of commodity P. tenuifolia have its scientific evidence. This study supplied a new method for the quality evaluation of Chinese medicinal materials.

Objective To prepare PLGA/PEG microsphcres for sustained release of bovine serum albumin (BSA), and evaluate the effect of the micrnsphere composition, proportion of the components and integration of PEG on the size, BSA encapsulation rate and in vitro BSA release properties of the microspheres. Methods BSA-loaded PLGA/PEG microspheres were prepared by water-in-oil-in-water double emulsions-solvent evaporation method (W/O/W). The morphology of the microspheres was observed with scanning elect'on microscope, the diameter was determined by Mastersizer 2000, and the encapsulation efficiency and in vitro BSA release were evaluated by UV spectrophotometry. Results Increased GA to LA ratio was associated with increased size of the microspheres and accelerated BSA release. The incorporation of PEG obviously increased the BSA encapsulation rate to as much as 88.22% with also increased BSA release rate. The BSA-PLGA/PEG biodegradable microspheres prepared was characterized by high encapsulation rate, low burst release, and slow BSA release for over 3 weeks at high drug concentrations. Conclusion BSA-PLGA/PEG microspheres with relatively high encapsulation efficiency and proper drug loading can be prepared by adjusting the parameters during the preparation process.
