Objective To evaluate the control effects on coal-burning-borne endemic fluorosis in Shangli County and Yuanzhou District of Jiangxi Province in 2014.Methods Self-evaluation at the county level was carried out in all diseased villages in Shangli County and Yuanzhou District,including 145 villages of Shangli County and 32 villages of Yuanzhou District.Review at the provincial level was based on the results of selfevaluation of the county,3 towns were chosen in each county (district),3 villages were chosen in each town,a total of 18 villages were re-checked in Shangli County and Yuanzhou District,and 10 households were chosen to recheck in each village.According to the project requirements for endemic disease control,in all diseased villages of Shangli County and Yuanzhou District,self-evaluation results of the county was used to evaluate the status of the improved and the used stoves,and dental fluorosis of children aged 8-12.Review at the provincial level was carried,and the results were evaluated based on the Standards for Control Criteria for Endemic Fluorosis Areas (GB 17017-2010) and Elimination of Coal-burning-borne Endemic Fluorosis.Results Self-evaluation of the county:110 443 households in Shangli County and 20 280 households in Yuanzhou District were investigated,the qualified rates of improved stoves were 92.45％ (102 109/110 443) and 98.28％ (19 932/20 280),respectively;the correct-usage rates of qualified stoves were 93.46％ (95 427/102 109) and 98.47％ (19 627/19 932),respectively.Dental fluorosis of 28 772 children were examined,the number of dental fluorosis was 5 730,the prevalence rate of dental fluorosis was 19.92％ (5 730/28 772);Shangli County and Yuanzhou District were up to the standard of fluorosis control,the rates of control were 95.17％ (138/145) and 100.00％ (32/32),respectively.Review at the provincial level:180 households were selected,the qualified numbers of improved stoves and the correct-usage of qualified stoves were 179 and 177,respectively,the qualified rate of improved stoves was 99.44％ (179/180) and the correct-usage rates of qualified stoves was 98.88％ (177/179).Dental fluorosis of 805 children were examined,the number of dental fluorosis was 139,the prevalence rate of dental fluorosis was 17.27％ (139/805).The consistency rate of county-level and provincial-level was 88.89％ (16/18).Conclusion The control efficiency for coal-burningborne fluorides in Shangli County and Yuanzhou District of Jiangxi Province is obvious,the prevalence is under control.

OBJECTIVETo reveal the relation between endogenous hormones and the flower bud differentiation in Schisandga chinensis.

METHODTop buds of extremely short branch and axillary buds of long branch in the same plant of S. chinensis were used as material and the contents of endogenous hormones were measured during different periods of the flower bud differentiation with HPLC.

RESULTThe result showed that flower bud differentiation and the formation of female flower were inhibited by high concentration of GA3 and were promoted by high concentration of ABA or ZT. Low ratio of GA3/ABA has the same result.

CONCLUSIONThere was a correlation between endogenous hormones and the flower bud differentiation of S. chinensis.

Background Inherited retinal degeneration,one of the major causes of blindness worldwide,comprises a large number of disorders characterized by a slow and progressive retinal degeneration.Interleukin-1 (IL-1)was recognized to be involved in inherited retinal degeneration.Whether IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) can arrest retinal degeneration is worthy of investigation.Objective This study was to investigate the effects of IL-1ra on photoreceptor apoptosis in Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) rats.Methods The use of the animals complied with the Regulations for the Administration of Affairs Concerning Experimental Animals by State Science and Technology Commission.The SPF RCS rats aged 9,15,16,25,30,35,40,50 and 60 postnatal days were collected,with 9 rats for each age group.Retinal sections were used for the TdT-mediated biotin-dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) cell apoptosis assay.1 μl of IL-1ra (1.8 g/L) was intravitreally injected in the right eyes of 9 RCS rats aged 15 postnatal days and PBS was used in the same way in the fellow eyes.The injection procedure was repeated on the 20 th and 25 th day,respectively.The rats were sacrificed on the 30 th day and retinal sections were prepared for the TUNEL assay.The differences in the percentage of the positive cellular nuclei area among different ages of rats were compared by one-way ANOVA,and the differences in retinal layer thickness between IL-1ra injection group and PBS injection group were assessed by paired t test.Results Photoreceptor apoptosis appeared in 20-day-old RCS rats and progressed and peaked in 30 and 35-day-old rats and then reduced,showing a significant difference among rat of various age groups (F=28.020,P＜0.01).Images from TUNEL assay showed a weaker and less TUNEL staining in the IL-1ra injected eyes than the PBS injected eyes in 30-day-old rats.The total area and relative area of TUNEL positive nuclei were (223.052±153.092) μm2 and (2.206±1.531) ％ in the IL-1ra injected group,and those in PBS injected group were (1235.050±359.767) μm2 and (7.269± 1.624) ％,with a significant difference between them (t =4.370,t=3.250,P＜0.01).The cone and rod thickness was (15.324±9.035) μm in the IL-1ra injected group and (49.566±4.605)μm in the PBS injected group,showing a significant difference (t =22.674,P＜0.01).However,no significant difference was seen in the outer nuclear layer thickness between the two groups (t =0.268,P＞0.05).Conclusions IL-1 participates in the pathogenesis and development of inherited retinal degeneration of RCS rats.The use of IL-1ra might be a potential approach in the treatment of inherited retinal degeneration.

Objective To explore the effect of?-3 fish oil fat emulsion on the release of pro-inflam- matory cytokines in patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome(SIRS).Methods Forty patients with SIRS in the intensive care unit(ICU)from June 2006 to June 2007 were randomly divided into routine total parenteral nutrition(TPN)group(group A,20 cases)and?-3 fish oil fat emulsion+TPN treatment group(group B,20 cases).All the patients received treatment of parenteral nutrition with equal nitrogen content and calories.The caloric value given was 83.68 kJ?kg~(-1)?d~(-1),with 0.2 g?kg~(-1)?d~(-1)of nitrogen. Group A patients received routine TPN,and group B patients received TPN with?-3 fish oil fat emulsion 1-2 ml?kg~(-1)?d~(-1),and both regimes lasted for 7 days.The levels of serum tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?),interleukin-1(IL-1)and IL-6 were checked before the treatment,and on the 1st,3rd and 7th day after the beginning of the treatment.The duration in ICU,the incidence of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(MODS)and the mortality rates in 28 days of the two groups were also assessed.Results Compared with the routine treatment group,the levels of serum TNF-?,IL-1,and IL-6 in the?-3 fish oil fat emulsion+TPN treatment group were lower markedly(P0.05).Conclusion The emulsion of?-3 fish oil fat seems to have a protective effect on patients with SIRS through decreasing the levels of serum TNF-?,IL-1 and IL-6,thus reducing the incidence of MODS,shortening the ICU stay, and increasing the survival rate of serious patients.

Objective To validate a new standardized training program for urological surgeons to improve their laparoscopic surgical skills. Methods The laparoscopic surgical training program was carried out by using the traditional mechanical simulators and animal models. Thirty-three trainees participated the urological laparoscopic surgical training program. Initially, the novices were assigned to practise basic laparoscopic skills step by step on the simulator with fixed trocar positions. After a period of basic training, they were allowed to practise on animal models for some particular proce-dures. Results All trainees (33/33, 100.0%) participated were able to perform all basic techniques skillfully and completed laparoscopic anastomosis accurately after the training. The time required for performing the partial nephrectomy, dismembered pyeloplasty and ureteral reimplantation on animal models declined from 64.0±18.4, 127.54±17.5 and 75.84±11.6 min at the beginning to 30.94±3.8, 65.2±7. 5 and 37.7±7.2 min after practicing these procedures 8 times (P<0.01). They could un-derstand the crucial procedures of the laparoseopic surgeries after 6 to 8 special trainings on animal models. Fifteen trainees (15/33, 45.5%) had started to carry out laparoscopic surgeries after-finish- ing the training program. Conclusions Our program enables the participants to improve their techniques in complicated laparoscopic surgeries. The challenging parts of reconstructive laparoscopic surgeries such as laparoscopic dismembered pyeloplasty can be taught by using animal models. This program could be incorpo-rated easily by all urological departments developing a laparoscopie surgical training program.

ObjectiveIn order to investigate anti-ageing mechanisms of the notoginsenoside Rg1,we used Aβ_(1-42) and D-galactose to establish aging rat model. Methods Ninety rats were divided into three groups at random: sham group, model group, treatment group. Aging rat models were established by injecting peritoneally D-galactose (100 mg/kg) to the rats for 56 days and after 35 days aggregated Aβ_(1-42)(μg) was injected to the right lateral ventricle of rats. Meantime, rats were treated by intragastric administration the notoginsenoside Rg1. Then spatial memory of experimental rats was examined with the Morris water maze(MWM). The thiol antioxidants including glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities were examined by colorimetric method. The concentration of the pro-caspase-3 and Bcl-2 were examined by the immunohistochemistry and Western blotting method. Results In aging model rats escape latercies were significantly prolonged (P<0.05), while decreases were seen in the time of staying the third quadrants of platform, the number of crossing over a platform, the concentration of the GR, GSH-Px, and pro-caspase-3 as compared with the sham group(P<0.05). After treatment of the notoginsenoside Rg1, the aging model rats exhibited significant increases in the time of staying the third quadrants of platform, the number of crossing over a platform, the concentration of the GR, GSH-Px, and pro-caspase-3(P<0.05), while a decrease was observed in escape latercies as compared to control group(P<0.05). Moreover there was no significant difference in the expression of the Bcl-2(P>0.05). Conclusion The results from our study indicate that the notoginsenoside Rg1 could improve the oriented learning and memory capacity and prevent the neurodegeneration of central nervous systems in aging model rats by up-regulating the expression of the thiol antioxidants(including GR and GSH-Px) and resisting the cleavage of the pro-caspase-3.

Objective To explore the optimal methods to detect helicobacter pylori(Hp)antigen in children.Methods 13C labeled urea breath test(13C-UBT)was performed on 937 children of alimentary department from Sep.2000 to Feb.2006.Gastric mucosa biopsy of 96 children was detected.Hp stool antigen(HpSA)status of the 557 children were evaluated.Both 13C-UBT and HpSA were assayed in 105 children from Apr.2003 to Apr.2004.Method of 13C-UBT was taken as the golden standard on diagnosis of Hp infection.Results Forty-one point seven percent children was positive for 13C-UBT.Forty point six percent children was positive for gastric mucosa biopsy.Thirty-eight point two percent was positive for HpSA.The difference was not significant.2.Among the 105 children performed by both 13C-UBT and HpSA,41.9% was positive for 13C-UBT and 39.0% for HpSA.Taking 13C-UBT as the golden standard,sensitivity of HpSA to diagnose Hp infection was 91.8%,and its specificity was 81.8%.Consistency Kappa coefficient was 0.743(P=0),which denoted that there was no significant difference on the positive detection rate between 13C-UBT and HpSA(P=0.388).Conclusions 13C-UBT and HpSA as non-invasive technique is effective to detect the Hp antigen.Compared to 13C-UBT,as a convenient,noninvasive,economical method,HpSA detection is much more acceptable to children and their patients.
