Hypoxic preconditioning with different simulated altitudes (3?000 m and 5?000 m) was performed on Wistar rats and the evoked population spikes were recorded from the hippocampal slices of these rats. The results showed that the appearance of hypoxic injury potential (HIP) and the disappearance of presynaptic volley (PV) were significantly delayed in response to acute lethal hypoxia. HIP and PV delay became more apparent when the hypoxic preconditioning altitude was increased from 3?000 m to 5?000 m. After reoxygenation, the recovery rate of PV in hypoxic preconditioning groups at 3?000 m and 5?000 m was apparently higher than that of control. The above results suggest that hypoxic preconditioning of animals in vivo increases hypoxic tolerance of hippocampal neurons.

OBJECTIVETo determine the difference of post-operative mortality between ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) and hip replacement for the treatment of intertrochanteric fracture in elderly by using survival analysis.
METHODSThe clinical data of 110 patients above 60 years old who underwent surgical treatment (ORIF or hip replacement) for the intertrochanteric fracture between April 2003 and May 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Among the patients, 83 cases were treated with ORIF (ORIF group), there were 32 males and 51 females, aged from 61.44 to 98.75 years old with an average of (78.52 ± 7.98) years old; and 27 cases were treated with hip replacement (arthroplasty group), there were 8 males and 19 females, aged from 71.82 to 96.54 years old with an average of (79.99 ± 6.11) years old. A survival analysis was performed on the clinical data by using SPSS 110 software. The survival rate of 1-year,2-year, 5-year and the mean survival time for the total patients, the mortality rate of 1-year, 2-year in each group, the survival rate of 1-year, 2-year and mean survival time and survival curve in each group were included.
RESULTSAll wounds achieved primary healing and no deaths were found in stay hospital. All patients were followed up from 1 to 125 months with an average of (46.93 ± 29.53) months. Among all 110 cases, 31 were dead and 79 survived. The survival rate of 1-year, 2-year and 5-year was (90.7 ± 2.8)%, (82.5 ± 3.9)% and (57.6 ± 6.5)%, respectively, while the ensemble mean survival time was (84.137 ± 5.902) months. The mortality rate of 1-year, 2-year in ORIF group was 7.2% and 12.0%, respectively; and in arthroplasty group, there was 14.8% and 25.9%, respectively. There was no significant difference in mortality rate of 1-year and 2-year between two groups. According to the survival analysis of the ORIF group, the survival rate of 1-year, 2-year was (92.6 ± 2.9)%, and (85.8 ± 4.3)%, respectively, and the mean survival time was (87.508 ± 6.063) months. In arthroplasty group, the survival rate of 1-year, 2-year was (85.2 ± 6.8)% and (73.9 ± 8.5)%,and the mean survival time was (67.294 ± 11.180) months. There was significant difference in mean survival time between two groups (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONORIF can achieve a better postoperative survival compare with hip replacement in treating intertrochanteric fracture in elderly.

Objective:Clonidine,by activating peripheral α-sbrenoceptors, produces transient pressor response after i.v.injection in anesthetized animals.Moxonidine, with at least 40-fold higher affinity to I1-imidazoline receptors than to α2-adrenoceptors,produces also a transient pressor response. This work was designed to investigate whether I1-imidazoline receptors are involved in this pressor effect of moxonidine. Methods:Female spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHRs,aged 14-16 weeks)were anesthetized with urethane. To observe the transient pressor responses, moxonidine 0.1,0.3,1.0mg/kg(intravenous,i.v),2.0μg(intracerebroventricular,i.c.v.)and 1.0,10.0mg/kg(intragastric,i.g.)were administrated in different groups of rats.To evaluate the roles of α1-adrenoceptors,α2-adrenoceptors and I1-imidazoline receptors in the transient pressor responses to moxonidine, prazosin(10.0μg/kg),yohimbine(2.0mg/kg),phentolamine(0.2mg/kg),idazoxan(1.0mg/kg)or yohimbine+idazoxan(2.0mg/kg+1.0mg/kg)were intravenously given to the animals before moxonidine 0.3mg/kg (i.v.).Results:It was found that i.v.moxonidine produced a greater pressor response than clonidine when producing a similar reduction of blood pressure. This effect of moxonidine was not influenced by prazosin, but was partly inhibited by yohimbine, phentolamine or idazoxan, and completely blocked by the combination of yohimbine and idzaxon.Neither i.c.v.injection nor i.g. administration of moxonidine induced transient pressor responses. Conclusion:The transient pressor response of i.v. moxonidine is mediated by both peripheral I1-imidazoline receptors and α2-adrenoceptors.

Acta Physiologica Sinica 2002;54(2):115-120
The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of recombinant human interleukin-6 (rhIL-6) on the Bcl-2 and Bax expression and apoptosis after anoxia-reoxygenation in cultured rat hippocampal neurons. The control and rhIL-6 treated hippocampal neurons cultured for 12 d were exposed to anoxia environment (90% N2+10% CO2) for 2 and 4 h and then were reoxygenated for 24 and 72 h. The expression of Bcl-2 and Bax was revealed immunocytochemically using the antiserum against Bcl-2 and Bax. The apoptosis was examined by the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated biotinylated deoxyuridine triphosphate nickel end labeling (TUNEL) method and flow cytometric analysis. The results showed that in cultured hippocampal neurons the Bcl-2 expression decreased while Bax expression and the percentage of apoptotic neurons increased after anoxia-reoxygenation compared with those before anoxia. In comparison with the control, after anoxia-reoxygenation the Bcl-2 expression in hippocampal neurons was higher than that in rhIL-6 group; however the Bax expression and the percentage of the apoptosis were decreased in rhIL-6 group. It is suggested that rhIL-6 may play a role in protecting neurons from the damage induced by anoxia-reoxygenation.
