1.Essentials of Physiotherapy after Thoracic Surgery: What Physiotherapists Need to Know. A Narrative Review.

Physiotherapy has recently become an essential part of enhanced recovery protocols after thoracic surgery. The evidence-based practice of physiotherapy is essential for the effective management of postoperative patients. Unfortunately, only a small body of literature has discussed the rationale of the physiotherapy interventions that are routinely implemented following thoracic surgery. Nonetheless, we can integrate the available knowledge into our practice until new evidence emerges. Therefore, in this review, the principles of physiotherapy after thoracic surgery are presented, along with a detailed description of physiotherapy interventions, with the goals of enhancing the knowledge and practical skills of physiotherapists in postoperative care units and helping them to re-evaluate and justify their traditional practices.

2.Receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B gene polymorphisms in Iranian periodontitis and peri-implantitis patients.

PURPOSE: Peri-implantitis and periodontitis are inflammatory and infectious diseases of implant and tooth-supporting tissues. Recently, the role of gene polymorphisms of immune response components in the relevant pathogenesis has been investigated. The present study was the first to evaluate the relationship between two known single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-beta (RANK) gene (rs3018362 and rs35211496) in chronic periodontitis and peri-implantitis patients in an Iranian population. METHODS: Eighty-one periodontally healthy patients, 38 patients with peri-implantitis, and 74 patients with chronic periodontitis were enrolled in this study. DNA was extracted from blood arm vein samples by using Miller's salting out technique according to the manufacturer's instructions given in the extraction kit. The concentration of DNA samples was measured using a spectrophotometer. The genetic polymorphisms of the RANK gene were evaluated using a competitive allele specific polymerase chain reaction (KBioscience allele specific PCR) technique. Differences in the frequencies of genotypes and alleles in the diseased and healthy groups were analyzed using chi-squared statistical tests (P<0.05). RESULTS: Analysis of rs35211496 revealed statistically significant differences in the expression of the TT, TC, and CC genotypes among the three groups (P=0.00). No statistically significant difference was detected in this respect between the control group and the chronic periodontitis group. The expression of the GG, GA, and AA genotypes and allele frequencies (rs3018362) showed no statistically significant difference among the three groups (P=0.21). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study indicate that the CC genotype of the rs35211496 RANK gene polymorphism was significantly associated with peri-implantitis and may be considered a genetic determinant for peri-implantitis, but this needs to be confirmed by further studies in other populations.

3.Optimization of Bifidobacterium pseudocatenulatum KAKii cultivation conditions for exopolysaccharide production by using response surface methodology

Aims:
Bifidobacteria is a non-motile, Gram-positive, strictly anaerobic and non-spore-forming bacteria that can produce exopolysaccharide (EPS). EPS is a polymer of sugars, long chained polysaccharide which have been shown to give benefit towards human health. The optimum conditions for EPS production by Bifidobacterium are still scarce. Therefore, a study was conducted to optimize the growth conditions (pH, temperature and cultivation time) for a better improvement of EPS production.
Methodology and results:
Three Bifidobacterium strains were cultured and the highest EPS producing strain was selected for optimization. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the growth conditions for a maximum EPS production. Subsequently, EPS was characterized by using FT-IR and GC-MS. Based on the result obtained, B. pseudocatenulatum KAKii had the highest EPS production compared to the other two strains namely B. pseudocatenulatum ATCC 27919 and B. animalis. Meanwhile, the optimization of the three factors towards selected strain found that EPS produced crucially depends on time of cultivation (23.59 h) other than pH (5.0) and temperature (34.75 °C). The validation showed that the predicted and experimental values were not significantly different (P > 0.05), indicating that the developed model is fitted well for the optimization. Meanwhile, FT-IR and GC-MS results showed that the EPS was composed of D-glucose, mannose, galactose, maltose and acetic acid as by-product.
Conclusion, significance and impact of study
This result showed that the EPS produced by B. pseudocatenulatum KAKii is from hetero-exopolysaccharide group with acetic acid as by-product made them a possible anticancer agent in future.
4.Chemokine Receptors Expression in MSCs: Comparative Analysis in Different Sources and Passages.

MSC-based therapy is providing a cure for degenerative diseases with unmet medical need and usually iliac crest bone marrow (ICBM) are being applied in clinics. Alternative sources, including adipose tissue and reamer/irrigator/ aspirator hold great potential for isolating MCSs. Here, we compared original MSCs features of adipose tissue (Ad-MSCs) and bone marrow of long-bone (RIA-MSCs) or iliac crest, and the expression of chemokine receptors (including CXCR4, CX3CR1, CXCR6, CXCR2, CCR1 and CCR7) in these three sources, which are important in the context of homing. We further investigated the role of SDF-1/CXCR4 axis as a key player in motility of different population of MSCs using Transwell migration assay. All cells exhibited typical MSCs characteristics. However, different MSCs sources expressed different levels of chemokine receptors. Generally, the expression of these chemokine receptors was decreased with increasing passage (P) number from 2 to 3. Interestingly, it was observed that the CXCR4 expression and migration capacity in Ad-MSCs is significantly higher than ICBM and RIA-MSCs in P2. Although our data showed that CXCR4 had highest expression in P2 Ad-MSCs, but it dramatically declined following sub-culturing in the P3. Hence, to improve homing of MSCs by means of chemokine/their receptors axis, the source of isolation and passage number should be considered for clinical applications.

5.Promotion of excisional wound repair by a menstrual blood-derived stem cell-seeded decellularized human amniotic membrane.

This is the first study demonstrating the efficacy of menstrual blood-derived stem cell (MenSC) transplantation via decellularized human amniotic membrane (DAM), for the promotion of skin excisional wound repair. The DAM was seeded with MenSCs at the density of 3 × 10⁴ cells/cm² and implanted onto a rat's 1.50 × 1.50 cm² full-thickness excisional wound defect. The results of wound closure and histopathological examinations demonstrated that the MenSC-seeded DAM could significantly improve the wound healing compared with DAM-treatment. All in all, our data indicated that the MenSCs can be a potential source for cell-based therapies to regenerate skin injuries.

6. Cattle toxoplasmosis in Iran: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective: To analyze and review the overall seroprevalence rate of Toxoplasma gondii (. T. gondii) infection in cattle from Iran. Methods: In the current study, data collection (published and unpublished papers, abstracts of national scientific congresses and dissertations) using particular terms was carried out systematically on the following electronic databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, Ebsco, Science Direct, Scopus, Magiran, Irandoc, IranMedex and SID (Scientific Information Database). Results: A total of 22 studies since 1983 to 2012 reporting the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in cattle from different regions of Iran met our eligibility criteria. The pooled proportion of toxoplasmosis, using random effect model, among cattle in Iran from over the 30-year period was estimated 18.1% (95% CI: 9.9% to 28.2%). Conclusions: This study firstly establishes a crude seroprevalence rate of Toxoplasma infection in cattle which can lead us to understand the condition of cattle toxoplasmosis, which have to take into accounted for an appropriate and effective prevention and controls. Secondly, it compares and discusses elaborately the role of risk factors including sex, age and breed in the epidemiology of the disease. Thus, it determines gaps and drawbacks in the prior studies which are greatly useful to design more accurate investigations in the future.
7.Association between pregnancy-related low back pain, physical activity, and health related quality of life: A survey of pregnant women in Northern Nigeria.

BACKGROUND:
Pregnancy-related low back pain is a common complaint with numerous adverse consequences. Unfortunately, the effect of healthrelated quality of life and physical activity status on pregnancy-related low back pain remains understudied.
OBJECTIVES:
This study aimed to examine the influence of physical activity and health-related quality of life on pregnancy-related low back pain among pregnant women.
METHODS:
A survey of 398 pregnant women was conducted using the Modified Pregnancy Low Back Pain, Medical Outcome Survey Short Form (MOS-SF), and Pregnancy Physical Activity Questionnaire (PPAQ) to assess pregnancy-related low back pain, quality of life, and physical activity status among the participants.
RESULTS:
About fifty-four percent (54%) of the pregnant women reported experiencing low back pain during pregnancy. There were no significant differences between most physical activity intensities and domains for pregnant women with and without pregnancy-related low back pain, with the exception of women identified as sedentary (12.9±14.8 versus 17.4±16.2) or inactive (18.7±20.0 versus 23.6±19.8). Furthermore, waist circumference (OR: 0.97; 95% CI: 0.96 to 0.99) and Physical component scores (PCS) (OR: 0.96; 95% CI: 0.93 to 0.98) were associated with pregnancy-related low back pain. An interaction of height and occupation also showed an association with pregnancy related low back pain (OR: 1.04; 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.08).
CONCLUSION
Sedentary and inactivity are the only physical activity intensity and domain associated with pregnancy-related low back pain, which affect the physical well-being of the expecting mothers.

8.Do Our Diabetic Patients Ready for Safe Pregnancy? Attitude Towards Preconception Care and Its Associated Factors Among Women With Diabetes Attending Government Health Clinics in Terengganu

Introduction: Women with uncontrolled diabetes may conceive but will result in poor pregnancy outcomes. This
study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and attitude and determine factors associated with attitude towards
preconception care. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in various government health clinics from all
districts in Terengganu by using multistage random sampling. A self-administered questionnaire was applied to assess
the level of knowledge and attitude towards preconception care. Multiple logistic regressions were applied to determine factors associated with attitude towards preconception care. Results: A total of 422 respondents were involved.
The prevalence of respondents with unsatisfactory knowledge and attitude were 41.7% and 84.1%, respectively.
Knowledge was not significantly associated with attitude. Respondents who used contraception had a better attitude
(Adj. OR: 0.44, 95% CI:0.23,0.84). Low household income was associated (Adj. OR: 2.40, 95% CI:1.10,5.26) with
an unsatisfactory attitude towards preconception care. Conclusion: Attitude towards preconception care amongst diabetic women who were attending primary care clinics was unsatisfactory. A structured and focused preconception
educational programme care is necessary, especially amongst low-income women.
