Korean Journal of Pathology 1993;27(3):287-289
The Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma(PXA) is considered as a special subgroup of gliomas because of its distinctive characteristics: onset in young subject; predilection for the temopral or parietal lobe and a superficial location; frequent appearance as a yellow encapsulated mass with a grossly visible tumor-associated cyst; marked histological pleomorphism; little or no mitosis and no necrosis; presence of a rich reticulin network; and demonstrable GFAP in many of the fusiform and giant cells; most importantly, the relatively favorable prognosis despite plemorphism and bizzare giant cells in the microscopic picture. The objective of this report is to add one more case of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma to the medical literature.

Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2010;22(5):519-528
PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to examine the relationships among the sense of control, social support, depression and nursing home adjustment, and to identify the influencing factors of nursing home adjustment in nursing home residents. METHODS: The study design was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Data were collected from May to June of 2010 using structured questionnaires from 212 elderly residents without dementia from 15 nursing homes. RESULTS: The levels of nursing home adjustment depended on the self-rated health, the voluntary institutionalization, and the length of stay. The nursing home adjustment was significantly correlated with a sense of control, social support and depression. The five most influential factors affecting adjustment were self-rated health, placement decision maker, the length of stay, a sense of control and depression, which explained about 51.5% of the variances. CONCLUSION: The findings reflect the importance of voluntary institutionalization, a sense of control, avoiding depressive mood and social support which facilitate residents' adjustment. These results can provide guidance for nursing interventions to facilitate nursing home adjustment.

Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2021;32(4):497-505
Purpose:
The study aimed to identify the effects of sleep hygiene (use of caffeine, alcohol, night eating syndrome, stress, and coping styles), social network, and smartphone-related factors on quality of sleep in young adults.
Methods:
This was a descriptive research design. Participants completed a questionnaire on evidence-based variables including caffeine intake, alcohol consumption, social network, night eating syndrome, stress, coping styles, and smartphone-related factors. Stepwise multiple regression was used for data analysis to identify factors that influenced the participants’ quality of sleep. This study included 288 young adults in South Korea.
Results:
This study identified the factors affecting quality of sleep in young adults. Their average weekly sleep duration was 6.86 hours with low sleep quality, indicated by a score of 59.34 points (range 17-100). The predictors of sleep quality were sleep mood, sub-items of night eating syndrome, effects of pain over the last four weeks, and social networks, which explained 33% of the variance.
Conclusion
Sleep-induced diseases in young adults could be prevented by identifying sleep mood, pain, and social networks, which is important for health and using them as a basis for intervention.

OBJECTIVE: To understand the clinical manifestations and disease course of adult onset Still' s disease (AOSD). METHODS: 15 patients of AOSD diagnosed at Severance hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine were retrospectively analysed in the period of September 1988 to September 1995. RESULTS: There were 3 men and 12 women (male to female ratio of 1:4). Age of disease onset ranged from 17-55 years, and over 86% of the patients were younger than age 40 at disease onset. The prevalence of clinical features were as follows fever (100%), arthritis (93%), skin rash (93%), sore throat (60%), abnormal liver function (73%), lymphadenopathy (47%), splenomegaly (47%), hepatomegaly (20%), serositis (13%). Fever was the most common initial symptom. Common labaratory features were leukocytosis with neutrophilia (87%), anemia' Hgb <10 g/dL (67%), increased serum ferritin (83%), ESR (87%) and CRP (93%). Serum ferritin was markedly raised at disease onset and correlated with disease activity. In 2 patients, the disease was controlled with NSAID alone, but most of the patients required steroid to control the disease activity. In 6 patients, MTX was added for steroid sparing effect and for steroid resistant arthritis. Most of AOSD patients had intermittent and chronic disease course. Root joint arthritis and polyarthritis were factors associated with chronicity. CONCLUSION: The clinical features of AOSD in our study generally resemble previous reports. Serum ferritin was a useful marker of disease activity. Most patients of AOSD had intermittent and chronic disease course. Root joint athritis and polyarticular pattern at disease onset were factors associated with chronicity.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1998;36(6):1113-1115
Lichenoid keratosis (LK), a lichen planus-like keratosis, is a rather frequent skin disorder that has some histological features similar to lichen planus. However, the classification system for LK has not been settled. We report two cases of LK and propose a new classification for LK correlating with clinicohistopathological findings.

Journal of the Korean Geriatrics Society 1999;3(2):37-45
BACKGROUNDS: As the elderly population in-creases the health problem, especially dementia, becomes the clinically important problem. So in the part of primary care medicine it becomes so important that family physician make a focus on the detection, evaluation, and management of demented patient. Until nowadays there is few cohort study about the dementia and few nursing home in Korea. So author performed the MMSE-K in the elderly who are over 65 to get the cognitive function for early diagnosis, management and rehabilitation of psychosocial problem. METHODS: One hundred three persons who included in community society in Seoul and nursing home of Kyunggido were tested. The survey was done twice on september 1997 and September 1998. Author used the MMSE-K to the elderly by same doctors. The analysis was done by SAS 6.12 and t-test, one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA with linear trend test. RESULTS: The mean of first MMSE-K score in the community is 26.1 and in the nursing home is 24.4. And the mean of second MMSE-K score in the community is 25.5 and in the nursing home is 22.0. The MMSE-K score is elevated with male and longer duration of education and is decreased with the advanced age in two groups. According to the classification by MMSE-K score the number of people who have normal cognitive function is 45(43.7%), mild impaired cognitive function is 45(43.7%), moderately impaired cognitive function is 13(12.6%) and none has severely impaired cognitive function in both groups. The follow up MMSE-K score shows that the difference of two MMSE-K scores increases as the age increases. CONCLUSION: Until todays there is few study that designed in the form of cohort study about the elderly cognitive function in Korea. So family physicians must perform the prospective cohort study with the consistent concern and effort to get the research data about the dementia for earthy detection, management and rehabilitation for elderly.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1999;37(1):119-121
Winkelmann granuloma is a very rare disorder characterized by histologic findings of perhaps[ic] infiltration, collagen degeneration, and granulomatous inflammation, which usually show palisading features. A number of diseases, especially systemic immunoreactive diseases, are associated with this disorder. We describe a focal neutrophilic necrosis : type of Winkelmann granuloma associated with hypothy- roidism and rheumatoid arthritis.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1998;36(3):498-501
Indeterminate cell proliferations are rarely described in dermatology literature. Indeterminate cells are characterized by positivity for S-100 protein and CD-la, but are distinguished from Langerhans cells by the absence of Birbeck granules. We present a case of congenital indeterminate cell histiocytoma in a 6-day-old male infant. A Skin examination revealed a solitary, erythematous, 6*6cm, superficially crusted, dome shaped papule on his forehead. A Histopathologic examination showed a dense cellular infiltrate in the dermis, below the atrophic epidermis. Frequently, the nucleus demonstrated a single cleft or crease like the shape of a kidney. These cells showed positivity for S-100 protein. Birbeck granules were not found on electron microscopic examination.
