Acupoint is the initial response site of acupuncture stimulus and also the source link of the effect onset of acupuncture. Acupuncture is a mechanical physical stimulus. How is the mechanical force of acupuncture transduced into neuroelectrical and biochemical signals at acupoint? How does the physiochemical information of acupoint launch acupuncture effect? All of these remain the common and crucial questions in the study of acupuncture effect mechanism. Physical changes are induced in the local tissue of acupoint by needling techniques, such as the deformation and displacement of muscle fibers, which may act on the nerve ending receptors and produce electroneurographic signals. Besides, these changes may activate the mechanosensitive ion channels of the cytomembrane in acupoint site. Through cellular signal transduction, the physical signals may be transformed into chemical ones to trigger the physiochemical coupling response of acupoint microenvironment. Eventually, acupuncture effect is generated via nerves and body fluids. "The mechanical force of acupuncture", through "the physiochemical transduction", promotes the body's perception and transmits acupuncture signals. It suggests that acupoint is the "transducer" in the physiochemical information coupling response of acupuncture.

Bidirectional regulation is one of the key function of acupuncture. The stimulator, mediator and receptor are the basis while the specificity of acupoints and the multi-target regulation of receptors receiving stimulation signals are the essential link of the bidirectional regulation of acupuncture. The possible mechanisms of bidirectional regulation of acupuncture are discussed in 4 aspects, i.e. homeostasis mechanism, stress reaction, central adaptive regulation and autonomic nerve regulation. Knowing the limitations of bidirectional regulation and exploring suitable researchmethods are proposed to be the key points in future researches.

The close relationship between acupoint and therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture-moxibustion is the basis for acupuncture-moxibustion to achieve the treatment effect. Crucial factors that affect the efficacy of acupuncture-moxibustion therapy should include the features and compatibility of acupoints, acquirement for needling response, reinforcing-reducing needling methods, stimulation methods and intensity, and so on. How to make good use of acupoint to enhance the clinical efficacy of acupuncture-moxibustion is one of the key and urgent scientific problems in the field of acupuncture-moxibustion. In this paper the relationship between acupoint and therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture-moxibustion, as well as its current research state were elucidated. Pondering and prospective on how to carry out researches to improve the clinical efficacy of acupuncture-moxibustion were also undertaken.

To make an induction and conclusion on related literatures on acupoint-acupuncture effects published at home and abroad in recent years. In this paper, scientific theory was used to prove that the meridian was the resonant channel of information energy of life, and experiment and demonstration was performed to reveal meridians to explore the significance of revealing meridian. Based on the theory of physics, biochemistry, molecular biology and information theory, the essence of meridian was demonstrated in theory. According to TCM meridian theory, acupuncture was applied at selected acupoints; the infrared thermograms of stomach meridian of foot , large intestine meridian of hand , small intestine meridian of hand , pericardium meridian of hand , heart meridian of hand , triple energizer meridian of hand , liver meridian of foot , bladder meridian of foot were recorded before and after acupuncture. As a result, thermogram recorded and showed the visual image of the meridian. It is indicated that an energy transmission network which cannot be dissected existing in the body, which was believed to be meridian. It was the resonant channel of information energy of life, and could be shown by thermogram. These experiments and theory have significance in science.

There are a large number of clinical reports that acupoint injection therapy is effective, but there are still some basic problems that have not been effectively resolved, such as the type, dosage, concentration and compatibility of acupoint injection drugs. This article analyzes and discusses the problems of acupoint injection therapy in five aspects: the effect of acupoint injection on local tissues, the study of mechanism, the best treatment plan and advantages, and the similarities and differences with local injection therapy.
