OBJECTIVETo investigate the growth activity of osteoblast on a novel strontium incorporated calcium sulfate and make comparison with normal calcium sulfate material.
METHODSOsteoblast was inoculated on samples and cell proliferation was measured on the 1st, 3rd, 5th days, and the activities of ALP and osteocalcin were observed on the 5th day. And microcosmic morphology of osteoblast was observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).
RESULTSOsteoblast grows robustly on tested material. Cell quantity on the surface of novel material was obviously higher than normal calcium sulfate material (P < 0.05). The activity of ALP and osteocalcin on novel material was 57.8% and 40.2% higher than on normal calcium sulfate material respectively (P < 0.05). On strontium incorporated surface, osteoblast spread well. Cells were polygonal with abundant cytoplasm and the morphology was active.
CONCLUSIONStrontium incorporated calcium sulfate can sustain robust growth activity of osteoblast, which is promising to be used for bone substitute materials.

Objective To study the state of erythrocyte immune function in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia, and analyze the influence of various clinical status on erythrocyte immune function. Methods Fifty-two neonates with hyperbilirubinemia were enrolled and 104 healthy neonates as the control group. The adherence rate of complement 3b-receptor on the surface of red blood cell(RBC-C3bRR) and the immune complex adherence rate of red blood cell(RBC-ICR) were detected with erythrocyte saccha-romycete rosettet test. Results 1.The level of RBC-C3bRR in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia was lower than that in control group, and the level of RBC-ICR in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia was higher than that of control group(Pa0.05).3.Comparing the neonates with unconjugated bilirubin of different concentrations, there were significant difference in RBC-ICR(Pa0.05).4.There were positive correlation between RBC-ICR and bilirubin, unconjugated bilirubin in the neonates(Pa0.05).Conclusion Erythrocyte immune function in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia is obviously lower than that of control group and it is influenced by the concentratron of bilirubin and the time of phototherapy.

Objective To evaluate the clinical significance of a modified T-staging system for hilar cholangiocarcinoma(HCC).Methods From 1999 through 2007,98 HCC patients were stratified by the Tstaging system.Statistical differences were evaluated for resectability, radical resectability, concomitant partial hepatectomy, partial portal vein resection, histological differentiation, lymph node characteristic and survival rate. Results There were 43 HCC patients graded at T1,37 at T2 and 18 at T3 respectively. The resectability rates were 65%,40% and 11%,and radical resection was achieved in 46%,21% and 0% respectively.Resectabilities decreased with increasing T stage(χ~2=15,P<0.01;χ~2=14,P<0.01,separately).In patients with T1 and T2 tumors who underwent resection, the concomitant partial hepatectomy accounted for 60% and 73%(χ~2=0.6,P>0.05),partial portal vein resection for 3% and 33%(χ~2=4,P<0.05),poor differentiated types for 71% and 40%(χ~2=4,P<0.05),and lymph node metastasis for 50% and 40%(χ~2=0.4,P>0.05),respectively.The 1-,3-and 5-year survival rates in patients with T1 lesions were 58%,30%and 18%,in 12 patients it was 43%,11%and 0.The 1-and 2-year survival rate in T3 patients was 12%and 0.Patients witll T1 or T2 stage tumors had a significantly longer survival than those with T3(P<0.05)(Log rank χ~2=14,Breslow χ~2=12,P<0.01;Log rank χ~2=6,Breslow χ~2=4,P<0.05,individually),and the difference in survival between T1 and T2 was not significant(Log rank χ~2=2,Breslow χ~2=1,P>0.05).Conclusions The T-staging system is appropriate for preoperative evaluation in HCC patients. However, its correlation with tumor histological differentiation and lymphatic characteristics needs to be elucidated.

OBJECTIVE:
To observe cardiac ultrastructure and the expression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) and hypoxia inducible factor-lα (HIF-lα) in electric shock death rats and to explore the application of these indexes as the basis of medical identification in electric shock death.
METHODS:
Seventy-two SD rats were randomly divided into electric shock death group, postmortem electric shock group and the control group. The changes of myocardial ultrastructure were observed by transmission electron microscope, and the expressions of myocardial HSP70 and HIF-1α were observed by immunohistochemical technology.
RESULTS:
Myocardial myofibril fracture, mitochondrial cristae and membrane dissolution, and disordered arrangement of Z lines and M lines were observed in electric shock rats. HSP70 and HIF-lα were strong positive expressions in the electric shock death group, significantly compared with the control and postmortem electric shock groups (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
The expressions of HSP70 and HIF-lα were obviously increased in electric shock death group, which may be used as the diagnostic indicator of electric shock death.

OBJECTIVETo detect potential mutation of Doublecortin (DCX) gene in a patient featuring X-linked subcortical laminar heterotopia (X-SCLH) and epilepsy.
METHODSMutation of the DCX gene was screened by PCR and direct sequencing. Pathogenicity of the mutation was analyzed with a PolyPhen-2 software.
RESULTSA de novo missense mutation c.971T>C (p.Phe324Ser) was discovered.
CONCLUSIONA diagnostic method for X-SCLH has been established, which may facilitate diagnosis and genetic counseling of patients featuring this disease.

Objective To determine the prevalence and distribution of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the relationship between maximum body mass index (MAXBMI) and T2DM. Methods From June to August, 2005, a stratified cluster sampling of 1071 permanent residents in communities, over 20 years old, from 4 districts and 1 county of Mudanjiang was chosen. The prevalence of T2DM, and the association between T2DM and different levels of the MAXBMI, current BMI were studied. Results The prevalence in the communities was 7.09% and in those with past maximum BMI≥28 kg/m~2, it was 12.10%. With the increase of past MAXBMI levels, the risk of T2DM patients also increased significantly(trend X~2=17.387 23, P<0.0001). Data from multifactor analysis showed that MAXBMI in the past was positively related to T2DM (OR=3.06, P=0.0013). In T2DM patients, the group with MAXBMI≥27.4 kg/m~2 had higher 2-hour postprandial blood glucose than those with lower MAXBMI (P=0.0408). When compared with low maximum BMI group in normal blood glucose population, the group with higher MAXBMI (≥ 25.4 kg/m~2) had higher blood glucose and greater change of BMI. Conclusion In both groups that patients with T2DM and with normal glucose, in order to control blood glucose better, researchers should not only concern about the influence of the MAXBMI in the past, but also pay attention to constantly keep BMI at the normal range.

OBJECTIVETo explore the influences of the restoration of neural adhesion molecule NECL1 on the morphology, migration, and invasion of NECL1-deficient glioma cell lines.
METHODSScratch and Transwell assays were used to observe the cell migration and invasion, the activities of extracellular metalloproteinases were measured, and the cell morphology was observed. Astrocytes marker glial fibrillary acidic protein was detected by Western blot after the restoration of NECL1 in glioma U251 cell line.
RESULTSIn NECL1-deficient U251 glioma cell lines, migration and invasion were inhibited. The U251 cells was differentiated potentially to astrocytes, and glial fibrillary acidic protein was up-regulated after the restoration of the NECL1 expression.
CONCLUSIONAs a potential tumor repressor, the neural adhesion molecule NECL1 can inhibit the migration and invasion of glioma cell and induces its differentiation.
