Objective: To study the antitumor activity of berberine which was alkylated based on the development of new antitumor drug. Methods: The alkylation and bromination of berberine were performed with Grignard reagent and bromine respectively to give 8-alkyl-13-bromo-berberine derivatives in good to excellent yields. The chemical structures of the derivatives were identified by UV, IR, 1H-NMR, and elemental analysis. The antiproliferative effect of the derivatives on human hepatoma cell line HepG2 was evaluated by MTT after 48 h incubation. Results: The results showed that the length of carbon chain of the derivatives was highly correlated with the tumor cell sensitivity and 8-octyl-13-bromo-berberine showed the remarkable activity. Its inhibitory rate was 96. 82% at the concentration of 32 μg/mL and IC50 was 3.33 μg/mL. Conclusion: Known from IC50, the antitumor activity could be enhanced within eight carbon atoms as the bromide side chain extension.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of endemic fluorosis in Guide county of Qinghai province, in order to provide appropriate measures to monitor and control the disease. Methods Damo, Wenquan, Baoning villages(water source has been changed) and Taiping village(water source has not been changed) in Guide county were involved in the study in 2008. One tap water sample was collected in dry and rainy seasons, respectively. Water fluoride was tested in accordance with the "Standard Test Methods for Drinking Water" (GB/T 5750.5-2006); of all the children aged 8 to 12, dental fluorosis was diagnosed using Dean criteria; 6 copies of urine samples were collected in each age group, urinary fluoride was measured using fluoride ion-selective electrode (WS/T 89-1996). According to the "Clinical Diagnostic Criteria of Endemic Skeletal Fluorosis "(WS 192-2008), clinical skeletal fluorosis was determined in adults over the age of 16 by X-ray examination for 10 people in each selected village. Results The mean water fluoride was 0.58,0.38,2.28,0.37 mg/L in Damo, Wenquan, Taiping, and Baoning villages, respectively, and that of Taiping village exceeded the national standard(1.0 mg/L). One hundred and ninety-three children aged 8-12 were checked, the detection rate of dental fluorosis was 49.74% (96/193); urine samples of 116 children were tested, median urinary fluoride was 1.49 mg/L A total of 1503 adults over the age of 16 were examined, the clinical detection of skeletal fluorosis was 51.63%(776/1503); a total of 82 people were X-rayed, X-ray detection of skeletal fluorosis was 20.73%(17/82). The characteristic of X-rays were degeneration and ossification of interosseous membrane. Conclusions Prevalence of dental fluorosis of children and adult clinical skeletal fluorosis are higher. The endemic fluorosis is still comparatively serious. Prevention efforts need to be further strengthened.

Objective:To analyze the cause of the blood heat syndrome in psoriasis.Methods: Made the investigation form about information of psoriatic patients through DME method and reference both Chinese and foreign documents,analyzed main component of data by SAS software.Results: The first main component of blood heat syndrome in psoriasis are infection,drinking,dietetic problem,and emotion;the second main component is family history;the third main component is dampness;the forth main component is the allergy to the food;the fifth is outside irritation.Through the corresponding investigation we found that food include hot food,beef,sheep and sea food,emotion problem include over work and stress,dampness include work and living in humid place for long time,outside stimulus meant chemical stimulus.Conclusion: The main cause of the blood heat syndrome in psoriasis are infection,drinking,dietetic problem,and emotion,family history,humidity,allergy to the food and chemical stimulus in order.

Objective To analyze the distribution of aminoglycoside acetyltransferases (aac) gene in Acinetobacter baumannii, and to establish a molecular biology method to detect the drug-resistance of the bacteria. Methods The aac genes of 42 isolated Acinetobacter baumannii were analyzed by drug susceptibility and multiplex PCR assay. Results The isolated bacteria were more resistant to Gentamicin (57%) and less resistant to Amikacin (29%). As to the bacteria resistant to at least one of the following aminoglycosides, Gentamicin, Tobramycin, Amikacin, aminoglycoside resistant genes were detected in all of pathogens except 2 special. Among them 6 strains with aac(6′)-Ih, 20 strains with aac(3)-Ia, 14 strains with aac(6′)-Ib and 14 strains were found to have both aac(6′)-Ib and aac(3)-Ia. Conclusion Acinetobacter baumannii isolated in this district are easily resistant to Gentamicin, and it is most caused by the enzyme encoded by aac(3)-Ia and aac(6′)-Ib.

Objective To study the effect of Chinese herbs on human scalp hair growth in vitro. Methods Organ culture of human scalp hair follicles was used to study the effects of extracts of Crataegus cuneata, Ligustrum lucidum, Polyporus umbelatus and Bletilla striata mixture and ginseng saponin on hair growth. Results Low doses of mixture extracts(1.28 ?g/mL and 6.4 ?g/mL) markedly enhanced the hair growth and lengthened the period of hair growth, while high doses of mixture extracts(4 mg/mL and 20 mg/mL) sharply inhibited hair growth and shortened the period of hair growth. High doses of ginseng saponin (40 ?g/mL and 200 ?g/mL) also had an inhibiting effect on hair growth. Conclusion This observation suggests that extracts of Crataegus cuneata, Ligustrum lucidum, Polyporus umbelatus and Bletilla striata mixture can promote hair growth in vitro.

Objective To explore the experience of nursing patients with Crohn’s disease.Method The nursing histories of 80 patients with Crohn’s disease were retrospectively reviewed to analyze and summarize the measures for nursing them.Result After active treatment and effective nursing,all the patients were improved and discharged.Conclusion Effective nursing is of positive significance to improve the curative effect of Crohn's disease.

Objective To investigate the genetic diversity of five populations of cultivated Morinda officinalis in Guangdong Province using random amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD).Methods Sixty-four individuals in five populations of cultivated M.officinalis were analyzed by RAPD markers to determine the genetic variations among the populations.The data of genetic diversity were analyzed with Popgen32 software.Results The levels of genetic variation and patterns of population structure in M.officinalis were investigated using RAPD markers.Of the 100 primers screened,15 primers produced highly reproducible RAPD bands,using these primers,224 discernible DNA fragments were generated with 112(50.00%) polymorphic fragments,indicating considerable genetic variation at the species level.In contrast,there were relatively high levels of polymorphism at the population level with the percentage of polymorphic bands ranging from 37.05% to 53.13%,and the mean percentage of polymorphic loic(P=45.86%).Genetic variation among populations was detected based on Nei's genetic diversity analysis(0.175 6),Shannon's diversity index(0.287 6) for every population with Shannon's index 0.103 3—0.236 2 and Nei's indexes 0.074 5—0.154 0.Conclusion There is a little genetic differentiation among populations of cultivated M.officinalis and result in different cultivated types,the genetic diversity with M.officinalis(POP2) is higher than that of other populations.It may be the main reason of the difference of cultivated M.officinalis quality.

Objective To study the clinical effect of Qiliqiangxin capsule (QC) in patients with chronic congestive heart failure (CHF). Methods According to random number table,64 CHF patients were randomly assigned into therapy group (n=33) and control group (n=31).During the treatment,sweat secretion,heart function improved rate,6 min walking distance,the side-effect and compliance were observed.The levels of serum Na+ and K+ of patients were measured on the 2nd,8th and 15th hospital day.Results Compared with control group,the remission rate of sweat secretion in therapy group was higher after treatment (P0.05);compared with control group,the improved rates of heart function and 6 min walking distance in therapy group were higher after two weeks (P0.05);on the 15th day,the level of serum Na+ in therapy group was higher than that in control group (P0.05).During treatment,33 patients had not any uncomfortable complain about this drug and nobody stopped using this capsule;while there was no complain from the patients of control group.Conclusion The effect of QC about releasing hyperidrosis in a short time is conspicuous.QC can improve heart function,but it plays this role gradually.QC can keep the level of serum Na+ to some extent.There is no influence on the level of serum K+.The tolerance of this capsule is well.

Objective To investigate the roles of theaflavins(TFs) in airway mucus hypersecretion induced by human neutrophil elastase(HNE). Methods Human lung adenocarcinoma cell A549 was stimulated by HNE for mucus hypersecretion,and TF monomers(TF1,TF2 and TF3) were used for intervention.The effects of TF monomers on viability of A549 cells were examined by MTT method.After the effective doses of TFs were determined,A549 cells were divided into 4 groups for experiment.In control group,A549 cells were cultured with serum-free medium.In HNE treatment group,A549 cells were treated with HNE(50 nmol/L) for 24 h.In TF monomer intervention groups,A549 cells were pre-treated with TF1,TF2 or TF3(50,100 or 200 ?g/mL) for 24 h,and were then treated with HNE for another 24 h.In AG1478 intervention group,A549 cells were pre-treated with AG1478(5 ?mol/L),an epidermal growth factor receptor blocker for 30 min,and were then treated with HNE for another 24 h.The changes in mucin(MUC) after treatment by different doses of TF1,TF2 and TF3,and by TF3(200 ?g/mL) for different time(12 h,24 h and 36 h) were detected.The changes in MUC5AC mRNA expression and MUC5AC protein expression were detected by RT-PCR and ELISA,respectively. Objective To evaluate surgical complications and outcomes based on prostate size in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) treated with plasmakinetic enucleation of prostate (PKEP).Methods A retrospective review was conducted of PKEP performed in 326 patients with BPH.According to the prostate size on preoperative transrectal ultrasonography measurement,patients were divided into three groups:groupl:＜40ml (n =92),group2:40～80ml (n =155),and group3:＞80ml (n =79).Intraoperative and perioperative parameters were evaluated.Patient perioperative data and postoperative outcomes were compared.Patients were followed up at 1,3,6 and 12 months after surgery.Early and late complications were recorded.Results There were significant differences among three groups regarding the mean operative time (P ＜ 0.01) and the mean resected tissue weight (P ＜ 0.01).However,enucleation efficiency (P ＜ 0.01) in gm tissue per minute increased significantly as prostate size increased.Mean hemoglobin decrease (P ＞0.05),mean serum sodium decrease (P ＞0.05),mean postoperative irrigation time (P ＞ 0.05),mean catheter time (P ＞ 0.05) and mean hospital stay (P ＞0.05) did not differ significantly among three groups.Three groups had a similar and significant postoperative improvement in international prostate symptom score (IPSS),quality of life (QOL),maximum urine rate (Qmax),and post-void residual urine volume(PVR) independent of prostate size (P ＜ 0.01),but no significant difference was found among three groups during 1,3,6 and 12-month follow-up (P ＞ 0.05).Perioperative and postoperative complications did not depend on prostate size (P ＞ 0.05).Conchsions Although patients with a larger BPH required significantly longer operation time in PKEP,prostate size did not affect perioperative and postoperative complications or micturition improvement.
