The effect of plant growth regulator forchlorfenuron (CPPU) 1 x 10(-6), 0.67 x 10(-6), 0.5 x 10(-6) on fruit morphology and effective components lignans was studied. Those morphologies were the combination of four basic morphological changes. The result showed, diametre were increased and longitudinal diametre of fruits were inhibited by foliage fertilizers including CPPU. At the same time, 1 000-grain weight and yield showed the varying degrees increase under CPPU. The order of the degree was 0.5 x 10(-6) > 1 x 10(-6) > 0.67 x 10(-6). Six lignans content of Schisandra chinensis of different harvest time and different CPPU processing groups were determined, the results showed that lignans accumulation occurred mainly in periods of premature the half mature fruiting stages. Under the 0.67 x 10(-6) CPPU treatment, schisandrol B, schisandrin B, schisandrin C content of S. chinensis showed different increase.

Objective To investigate the effects of different doses of dexamethasone (Dex) on bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Methods Forty 3-month-old female SD rats were divided into four groups:control group (Cont, saline), low dose Dex group (LDG, 1 mg/kg), medium dose Dex group (MDG, 2.5 mg/kg) and high dose Dex group (HDG, 5 mg/kg). Ten rats for each group. Dex was injected intramuscularly twice a week. The values of BMD and body composition were measured by DEXA densitometer at the beginning and 4-week of treatment. Results The body weights of different doses of Dex intervention groups were decreased after 1 to 4-week intervention compared with those of Cont group (P<0.01). After 4-week intervention, the total BMD, femur BMD, total bone mineral content (BMC), to-tal fat mass, trunk fat mass and leg fat mass were significantly increased in Cont group (P<0.01), while the total lean mass, trunk lean mass were significantly decreased (P<0.01). The total BMC, femur BMD, leg lean mass, leg fat mass were signifi-cantly lower in LDG group and MDG group than those of Cont group (P<0.05). The femur BMD, leg fat mass were signifi-cantly lower in LDG group and MDG group than those of HDG group (P<0.05). Conclusion The doses of 1 mg/kg and 2.5 mg/kg Dex have greater impact on the femur BMD and the leg composition in SD rats than that of Dex (dose of 5 mg/kg ).

National Journal of Andrology 2007;13(3):242-245
Transient receptor potential (TRP) ion channels are widely distributed in different kinds of cells. TRP expresses highly in the prostatic cancer epithelia at different levels, but whether it expresses in chronic prostatitis epithelia or not remains poorly understood. Investigating the roles of TRP ion channels in the pathogenesis of prostatic diseases could afford us a new approach to their diagnosis and therapy.

AlM: To investigate the association between the degree of anterioruveitis and related factors including inflammatory markers as well as sacroiliac joint imaging in patients with ankylosing spondylitis ( AS) .
METHODS: Anterior changes evaluated by slit lamp, erythrocyte sedimentation rate ( ESR ) , C - reactive protein ( CRP ) and magnetic resonance imaging of 55 cases with AS associateduveitis were retrospectively analyzed. A modified endotoxin-induced uveitis ( ElU ) clinical standard was used for uveitis grading. SPARCC sacroiliac scoring was used to evaluate bone edema of sacroiliac joint. The correlation between the degree of uveitis and sacroiliitis was assessed.
RESULTS: ln the 55 patients with AS, ElU grading scored 2-10, and SPARCC index scored 0-22. Further analysis showed that the severity of uveitis was significantly correlated with ESR (r=0. 869, P<0. 001) and CRP (r=0. 485, P<0. 001). The degree of anterior uveitis in AS patients was not correlated with inflammation of sacroiliac joint (r=0. 237, P=0. 081).
CONCLUSlON: Local autoimmunity of uveitis and sacroiliac joint inflammation with subsequent bone formation in AS might be mutually independent processes.

OBJECTIVETo report our clinical experience of using Onyx, a new liquid embolic agent, to treat cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) as well as its efficacy.
METHODSSeventy cases were placed with 6F sheath in the femoral artery after Seldinger puncture and 6F guiding catheter was introduced into the internal carotid artery or vertebral artery, then a microcatheter was navigated into the nidus of AVMs. Slow injection of Onyx under fluoroscopic control was performed to embolize cerebral AVMs using the "plug and push" technique.
RESULTSThirteen AVM cases (18.6%) were totally occluded by Onyx and 5 cases of which didn't recurrence at 6-month after operation. Thirty-eight cases (54.3%) were subtotally occluded, while another 19 cases (27.1%) were partially embolized. Severe cerebral hemorrhage occurred in 4 cases, 2 of which had mild to severe hemiplegia after operation, and one died. Mild hemiplegia was also found in 1 case due to functional area embolization, and visual field deficit in 2 cases.
CONCLUSIONSOnyx has unique and distinctive superiority in treating cerebral AVMs. Nonetheless, the correct embolization technique should be learned to achieve good clinical results and avoid complications.

Journal of Zhejiang University. Medical sciences 2006;35(5):512-516
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of short-term rapid atrial pacing on the electrophysiological characteristics of atrium in hyperthyroidism.
METHODSForty-six adult rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal control group (n=10), pacing group (n=10), hyperthyroidism group (n=14), hyperthyroidism/pacing group (n=12). Baseline AERP and AERPs after pacing 2, 4, 6 h were determined in all groups at driver cycle length (DCL) of 200 ms, 150 ms and 130 ms.
RESULTIn pacing group, AERPs at different DCL (200 ms, 150 ms and 130 ms) were shortened after rapid pacing 2, 4, 6 h when compared with before pacing and control group (P<0.01). AERPs (at DCL of 200 ms, 150 ms and 130 ms) in hyperthyroidism group were shorter than those in control group at all time points (P<0.01). AERPs (at DCL of 200 ms, 150 ms and 130 ms) in hyperthyroidism/pacing group after rapid pacing 2, 4, 6 h were shorter than those in pacing 0 h (P<0.01) and hyperthyroidism group (P<0.05). AERP200-150 and AERP200-130 in pacing group after rapid pacing 2, 4, 6 h were significantly different from at pacing 0 h and control group (P<0.01). AERP200-150 and AERP200-130 in hyperthyroidism and hyperthyroidism/pacing group were significantly different from control group at all time points (P<0.01). No differences were observed in AERP200-150 and AERP200-130 between hyperthyroidism group and hyperthyroidism/pacing group.
CONCLUSIONHyperthyroidism and short-term atrial pacing in the presence of hyperthyroidism can lead to remodeling of atrial electrophysiology.
