INTRODUCTION:
Lockdowns and quarantine measures during the pandemic have led to increased media
consumption among students worldwide. This study aimed to determine the association between the
status of the psychological well-being of medical students in a private tertiary institution and social
media use during the pandemic.
METHODS:
This is cross-sectional analytical study which included medical students in a private tertiary
institution. SONTUS was used to measure social media usage, while Ryff’s Scales of Psychological Well-
Being was used to assess the psychological well-being. PRR and Chi-square test were used for data analysis.
RESULTS:
There were 317 respondents in the study. Based on the results of SONTUS, there are 114
respondents who have high usage. For the Ryff’s scale, there were 76 respondents who have low well-
being scores. The computed Pearson Chi-square has an associated probability (p-value) of 0.855 which
is more than the set significance level of 0.05. For the PRR, the computed value was 1.04.
CONCLUSION
There was no association found between the psychological well-being status of medical
students in a private tertiary institution and social media use during the pandemic.

BACKGROUND:
School-aged children bear a lot of difficulties and discomforts brought about by the new normal
during the COVID-19 pandemic.
OBJECTIVES:
This study aimed to examine the general well-being of children during the pandemic, how the
children are coping with all the challenges, and parents' strategies to help their children cope
METHODOLOGY:
This study utilized a descriptive correlational research design with purposive sampling. Data
was collected through an online survey. The standardized Kidcope-Child version was utilized to measure
children's coping, while the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL)™ 4.0 Short Form 15 Generic Core
Scales was utilized to measure the children's well-being.
RESULTS:
A total of 134 parents participated in the study. No significant relationship was found between the
age, sex, and coping strategies of the children, as well as between the age and well-being of children. Male
children experienced more difficulty in physical functioning (p-value= 0.028), social functioning (p-value=
0.017), and overall well-being (p-value= 0.031) compared to female children. The computed mean for parents'
helping strategies was between 2.67 to 2.78, which lies between the categories of sometimes (2) to always (3).
CONCLUSION
School-aged children were found to be using more positive coping strategies than negative coping
strategies during the pandemic. They have “sometimes” to “almost no” experience of difficulty in terms of the
five functions of well-being. Parents used the six fundamental tasks of parenting to help their children cope.

3.Assessing The Relationship Between Perceived Restorativeness And Psychological Wellbeing Among Students

The purpose of this paper was to identify theories that underpin the relationship between perceived restorativeness and psychological wellbeing. This study also aimed to identify the types of activities that the respondent preferred to use as psychological resources when dealing with threatening situation. The instruments used in this study were Perceived Restorativeness for Activities Scale (PRAS) and Psychological Wellbeing Scale. The questionnaires were administered to a sample of 192 Master of Education students. The findings demonstrated that Master of Education students possess a high level of psychological well-being (Mean = 4.39, SD = 0.611) and high level of perceived restorativeness for their preferred activities (Mean = 4.57, SD = 0.76). The most preferred activities for restorativeness approach included participation in social context, followed by engaging in outdoor activities and lastly observing nature. The fascination property of perceived restorativeness obtained the highest score. Thus, the findings of the study illustrate the students’ preferred activities of restorativeness for maintaining their level of psychological wellbeing.

4.A cross-sectional study on factors of well-being of UP College of Medicine students from SY 2017-2018

Objectives:
Psychological distress is more prevalent among medical students compared to the general population. This study describes the factors which contribute to the well-being of medical students enrolled in the UP College of Medicine, and their relationship with the students’ demographic characteristics.
Methods:
The modified Cardiff Medical School Well-being Questionnaire was administered to 598 students of the UP College of Medicine. The following domains were explored: acquisition of knowledge and skills, work-life balance, demands, travel and orientation, safety, culture, finances, perceived support in academics and perceived support in personal/health matters. Students also shared their insights regarding potential areas of change to enhance their engagement and performance. Demographics are presented as frequency and percentage; the relationship between the demographic characteristics and factors was analyzed through multiple linear regression.
Results:
The mean age of the medical student participants was 22.6 years, with an almost equal male to female ratio. The majority were single, Roman Catholic, lateral entrants, having a high socioeconomic status, and with residence in the City of Manila while in training. Medical students were least concerned about culture, safety at work, travel and orientation, and perceived support for academics. However, they were most concerned about work-life balance, demands, finance, and perceived support on personal and health matters.
Conclusion
Medical students expressed more concern about work-life balance, demands, finance, and perceived support on personal and health issues, and marked less concern about culture, safety at work, travel and orientation, and perceived support for academics. Across all domains, there are areas for improvement and limitations which can be further explored in future studies.
