Objective To evaluate the effects of comprehensive schistosomiasis control in marshlands of Pukou District Nanjing City so as to provide the evidence for developing the strategy of the disease control. Methods The information of the prevention and control of schistosomiasis was collected in Pukou District from 2004 to 2013. The variations of the infection rates of human livestock and Oncomelania hupensis snails were analyzed. Results In 2013 the area with snails in the entire dis-trict was 384.09 hm2 which was 66.24%decrease compared to 1 137.61 hm2 in 2004. Moreover after 2008 no infected-snails and schistosomiasis patients were found and both the density of live snails and serum positive rate of schistosomiasis declined with years. Conclusions After the comprehensive prevention and control is conducted the schistosomiasis situation in Pukou District is stable. However in order to consolidate the results it is still essential to continue monitoring the previous infected snail environments and implementing the comprehensive prevention and control measures.

The efficacy of Chinese herbal formula in treating depression has been proved in many studies. In this study, six different Kaixin San formulas were compared to investigate their effects on central monoamine neurotransmitters of chronic stress rats and against depression based on their different components in plasma, in order to discuss the efficacy-comparability relationship and the possible efficacy mechanism. The classic isolation method and the chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) depression model were combined to investigate the changes in contents in hippocampus and monoamine neurotransmitters (NE, DA, 5-HT) and the components of some formulas in plasma with HPLC and UPLC-Q-TOF-MSE methods. As a result, Dingzhi Xiaowan recorded in Essential Recipes for Emergent Use Worth A Thousand significantly increased the behavioral scores, NE and 5-HT contents in hippocampus and NE, DA and 5-HT contents in cortex, with the best anti-depressant effect. Dingzhi Xiaowan recorded in Complete Records of Ancient and Modern Medical Works showed a notable increase in sucrose preference and open field score in model rats, NE content in hippocampus and NE, DA and 5-HT contents in cortex, with a certain anti anti-depressant effect. Kaixin San recorded in Ishinpo showed remarkable rise in weight of model rats. NE content in hippocampus and DA content in cortex. Puxin Decoction recorded in A Supplement to Recipes Worth A Thousand Gold showed 5-HT content in hippocampus and DA content in cortex. Kaixin San recorded in Yimenfang only showed DA content in cortex. Kaixin Wan recorded in Essential Recipes for Emergent Use Worth A Thousand did not mention the antidepressant effect. According to the results, the formulas' different anti-depressant effects may be related to the different plasma components.

Neurology Asia 2014;19(2):203-206
A 23-year-old man in remission from acute myeloblastic leukemia after allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation developed peripheral neuropathy presenting as sciatic and peroneal nerve deficits. Electrophysiological tests localized the lesions to the left sciatic and common peroneal nerve. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed nerve thickening and enhancement, while a positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan demonstrated increased fluorodeoxyglucose uptake tracking along the nerve, suggesting peripheral nerve infiltration. This report demonstrates an unusual presentation of acute leukemia relapse presenting as focal neuropathy

Objective To evaluate the effect of small endoscopic sphincterotomy and endoscopic balloon dilatation in the treatment of common duct stones (CDS) in patients with atypical papillae (combined with diverticula; after surgical operation; combined with abnormal duodenal lumen with no definite cause).MethodsOne hundred and three patients with CDS and with atypical papillae treated from July 2007 to March 2010 were randomly divided into three groups.Thirty-four patients received endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST group),34 patients received endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD group) and the remaining 35 patients received small endoscopic sphincterotomy and endoscopic balloon dilatation (EST+EBD group). The general state of the patients in the 3 groups showed no significant difference (P>0.05).We tried to remove all CDS using baskets and/or balloons after the procedures on the papillae. In some patients the stones were crushed by using a basket mechanical lithotriptor (BML).In some patients with huge stones,we could only placed in a plastic stent because of the high risk of removing the stones in a single procedure.ResultsSuccessful endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) was carried out in 96 patients.Patients in the EST+ EBD group had less complications, especially hemorrhage, when compared with the EST group (P<0.05).Also,the EST+EBD group had a significantly higher success rate of complete stone removal (P<0.05),decreased use of BML (P<0.05) and decreased rate of acute pancreatitis when compared with the EBD group (P<0.05).ConclusionsThe success rate of ERCP in managing patients with CDS with atypical papillae remained high.Small endoscopic sphincterotomy and endoscopic balloon dilatation had a higher success rate of removing stones at the first attempt and a decreased rate of complications.

Objective To compare the incorporation method of 3H-TdR and 125Ⅰ-UdR on determining the proliferation effect of lymphocytes. Methods The proliferation effects of lymphocyte and Daudi lymphoma cells were estimated by 3H-TdR and 125Ⅰ-UdR incorporation. Results The incorporating fraction of 3H-TdR and 125Ⅰ-UdR into lymphocyte was 20.95% ± 1.06% and 1.00% ±0.04%,respectively, and the incorporating fraction for the lymphoma cells was 29. 94% ± 4. 10% and 6. 02% ±0. 73% ,respectively. The incorporation fractions of 3H-TdR into lymphocyte and lymphoma cells were much higher than those of 125Ⅰ-UdR, but the incorporating fractions of 3H-TdR or 125Ⅰ-UdR into the lymphoma cells were much higher than those of lymphocytes. Conclusions For lymphocytes, 125Ⅰ-UdR cannot substitute 3H-TdR as a tracer agent. But for lymphoma cells, whether 125Ⅰ-UdR could be replace 3H-TdR or not needs further research.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Qufeng Tongluo Recipe (QTR) on the expression of desmin and CD2-associated protein (CD2AP) in adriamycin-induced nephropathy rats.
METHODSThe adriamycin-induced nephropathy rat model was induced by a disposable intravenous injection of adriamycin. The model was successfully established after 3 weeks. Rats were then randomly divided into the blank control group (Group A, n =12), the model control group (Group B, n = 8), the small, medium, large dose QTR group (Group C, n = 8; Group D, n = 8; Group E, n = 8), and the positive control group (Group F, n = 8). From the fourth week normal saline was given to rats in Group A and Group B, QTR 1.0 g/mL, 2.1 g/mL, and 4.2 g/mL was respectively administered to those in Group C, D, and E. Prednisone 25 mg/kg was given to rats in Group F. All medication was performed by gastrogavage at 10 mL/kg, once daily, for 28 successive days. 24-h urinary protein excretion and sera biochemical indices were determined during medication. At the end of the experiment, ultrastructure was observed, mRNA expression of desmin, mRNA and protein of CD2AP were detected by Real-time PCR and Western blot.
RESULTS(1) Compared with Group B, 24-h urinary protein excretion significantly decreased in Group C, D, E, and F (P < 0.05). (2) Compared with Group B, Alb in Group C, D, and E increased (P < 0.05) and TC significantly decreased (P < 0.05). TG significantly increased in Group F (P < 0.05). (3) Results of electron microscope showed, compared with Group B, the morphology of foot cells was improved to various degrees in Groups D, E, and F, especially the foot process structure and the number of foot processes were significantly improved, which was more obviously shown in Group D and Group E. (4) mRNA expression of desmin, mRNA and protein of CD2AP increased in adriamycin-induced nephropathy rats (P < 0.05). After intervention, when compared with Group B, mRNA expression of desmin and CD2AP were significantly lower in Group C, D, E, and F (P < 0.05). (5) Compared with Group A, expression of desmin and CD2AP significantly increased (P < 0.05). Compared with Group B, the expression of desmin protein were obviously lower in Group C, D, E, and F, and the protein expression of desmin obviously decreased in Group D, E, and F (P < 0.05). The protein expression of desmin and CD2AP gradually decreased in Group C, D, and E (P < 0.05). Compared with Group F, the expression of CD2AP protein obviously increased in Group C and D (P < 0.05); the expression of CD2AP protein obviously decreased in Group E (P < 0.05); the expression of desmin protein was higher in Group C, D, and E (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONQTR's therapeutic effect on adriamycin-induced nephropathy rats might be achieved through altered expression of desmin and CD2AP.

Journal of Peking University(Health Sciences) 2004;0(01):-
Objective: To study the clonal characteristics of peripheral T cells and anti tumor immunology in the patients with colorectal cancer by analyzing T cell receptor beta (TCR?) gene repertoire and complementarity determining regions 3 (CDR3) amino acid sequence of the peripheral blood cells (PBL). Methods:The 24 TCR?V genes from PBL in pre operation and post operation and colorectal cancer tissues, were amplified by the method of combined reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) with denaturation polyacrylamide sequencing gel eletrophoresis, which is called TCR? gene repertoire. In order to analyze the clonality of the over expressing bands and the CDR3 sequence, the PCR production was sequenced directly. Results: TCR? gene repertoire of PBL in the tumor bearing patients was clonally expressed, which indicated that there were monoclonal or oligoclonal expansion of T lymphocytes. Some of the clonal T cells in PBL had the same CDR3 amino acid sequence motifs with the clonal T cells in the tumor infiltrating lymphocyte(TIL). The patients with clonal expansion of T cells in PBL had lymph node metastases, but there was no recurrence within 10 months after operation. Conclusion: There is oligoclonal proliferation of T cells in the blood of tumor bearing patients. It is possible that the clonal T lymphocytes are the tumor associated antigen specific anti tumor T lymphocytes.
