Objective To investigate the levels of interleukin-15(IL-15) in children with acute leukemia and contribute to understand their function on acute leukemia about the process. Methods Every group of acute lymphocytic leukemia(ALL),acute nonlymphocytic leukemia(ANLL) or non-leukemia group had 20 children who did not receive any treatment. Peripheral blood of every group and 20 other healthy children were aspirated .The levels of IL-15 in serum was analyzed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results The levels of IL-15 in ALL group,ANLL group, non-leukemia group and healthy children were (34.37?2.8) ng/L, (29.61?3.2 )ng/L, (117.54?3.9) ng/L, (122.23?4.2) ng/L. Compared with the levels of the healthy group or the non-leukemia group, the difference of ALL or ANLL was signicant in statistics(q=3.95,4.03 Pa0.05).Conclusion Detection of serum IL-15 levels may have clinical significance in judging the anti-tumor immune condition in children with leukemia.

Fourteen psychrotrophic bacteria were isolated from swamp soil collected in Ruoergai plateau wetland, and their generation time and degrading ability of livestock wastewater CODcr was determined. The results showed that the generation time was within 4.9 h to 11.6 h.Based on the generation time,9 psychro-trophic strains(NLJ1,NLJ6,NLJ7,NLJ9,NLJ10,NLJ11,NLJ12,NLJ13 and NLJ14),whose generation time was within 4.9 h to 5.6 h,were chosen to treat livestock wastewater. The results suggested that these 9 strains had different CODcr disposal ability when treating livestock wastewater singly at 6?C for 6 h,and strains NLJ6,NLJ7,NLJ9,NLJ10,NLJ11 and NLJ13 had good ability to degrade livestock wastewater, the CODcr degrading rate was about 60%~70%,hence,they were used as high efficient strains; However, the CODcr degrading rate of the other strains was less than 50%.After inoculating mixture culture of these six strains into the distilled livestock wastewater, after 6 h's treating, the CODcr degrading rate reached to 85.42%.Furthermore,activated sludge collected from Yaan,Dujiangyan and Chengdu were inoculated by the mixture culture of those six strains, and used to treat livestock wastewater for 6 h.The results showed that the average CODcr degrading rate was 81.67%,76.32% and 70.56%,respectively;Variance analysis showed that there was no significant differentiation between each treatment, which revealed that those six psychrotrophic strains had good adaptability to different source of activated sludge.

OBJECTIVETo observe changes in activity and proliferation of cultured Schwann cells under the high glucose condition and effect of allyl glycoside extracted from Herba Rhodiolae (AG) on these changes for exploring the possible mechanism of diabetic peripheral nerve injury and the pharmacologic action of AG on them.
METHODSAdopting refined Brokes method, Schwann cells were isolated from the sciatic nerve tissue of newborn Wistar rats and purified. Their activity and proliferative capability were determined using XTT method and 3H-TdR incorporative method respectively.
RESULTSHigh glucose showed marked inhibitory effect on both activity and proliferative capability of Schwann cells, and the inhibition could be markedly improved by AG.
CONCLUSIONDiabetic peripheral nerve injury is possibly related to inhibitory effect of high glucose on activity and proliferative capability of Schwann cells. Effect of AG in improving these inhibitory changes provides the experiment basis for clinical use of traditional Chinese medicine, Herba Rhodiolae.

OJBECTIVETo investigate the predictive value of the qualitative assessment of general movements (GMs) for adverse outcomes at 24 months of age in full-term infants with asphyxia.
METHODSA total of 114 full-term asphyxiated infants, who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit between 2009 and 2012 and took part in follow-ups after discharge were included in the study. All of them received the qualitative assessment of GMs within 3 months after birth. The development quotient was determined with the Bayley Scales of Infant Development at 24 months of age.
RESULTSThe results of the qualitative assessment of GMs within 3 months after birth showed that among 114 infants, 20 (17.5%) had poor repertoire movements and 7 (6.1%) had cramped-synchronized movements during the writhing movements period; 8 infants (7.0%) had the absence of fidgety movements during the fidgety movements period. The results of development quotient at 24 months of age showed that 7 infants (6.1%) had adverse developmental outcomes: 6 cases of cerebral palsy and mental retardation and 1 case of mental retardation. There was a poor consistency between poor repertoire movements during the writhing movements period and the developmental outcomes at 24 months of age (Kappa=-0.019; P>0.05). There was a high consistency between cramped-synchronized movements during the writhing movements period and the developmental outcomes at 24 months of age (Kappa=0.848; P<0.05), and the results of predictive values of cramped-synchronized movements were shown as follows: predictive validity 98.2%, sensitivity 85.7%, specificity 99.1%, positive predictive value 85.7%, and negative predictive value 99.1%. There was a high consistency between the absence of fidgety movements during the fidgety movements period and the developmental outcomes at 24 months of age (Kappa=0.786; P<0.05), and its predictive values were expressed as follows: predictive validity 97.4%, sensitivity 85.7%, specificity 98.1%, positive predictive value 75.0%, and negative predictive value 99.1%.
CONCLUSIONSCramped-synchronized movements and absence of fidgety movements can predict adverse developmental outcomes at 24 months of age in full-term infants with asphyxia.

Chinese Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma 2024;26(3):255-261
Objective:To investigate the efficacy and mechanism of static progressive stretch (SPS) with different parameters in the treatment of stiff knee in rats.Methods:Fifty-six male 8-week SD rats were randomly divided into an operation group ( n=48) and a blank group ( n=8, normal feeding rats without any treatment). The knee joints of the rats in the operation group were fixed with Kirschner wire for 4 weeks to create models of right knee flexion stiffness. The 42 rats with successful modeling were randomly divided into 6 groups ( n=7): the model group was executed and sampled after successful modeling, the spontaneous recovery group was not given any treatment after successful modeling, group T1 was given SPS treatment for 20 min once per day, group T2 was given SPS treatment for 30 min once per day, group T3 was given SPS treatment for 20 min once every 2 days, and group T4 was given SPS treatment for 30 min once every 2 days. After 16 days, the range of knee motion, number of myofibroblasts, and positive proportion of transforming growth factor- β1 (TGF- β1) in the joint capsule were detected and compared between groups. Results:The ranges of knee motion in the spontaneous recovery group and the 4 SPS treatment groups were significantly greater than those before treatment ( P<0.05), and the improvements in the range of knee motion in the 4 SPS treatment groups were significantly greater than that in the spontaneous recovery group ( P<0.05). The range of knee motion in group T2 (112.29°±1.89°) was improved the most significantly. The number of myofibroblasts was (23.72±10.75)/HP, which was significantly smaller than that in T3 group [(55.72±33.56)/HP] or in T4 group [(50.72±33.34)/HP] ( P<0.05). The positive proportions of TGF- β1 in the joint capsule in the 4 SPS treatment groups were significantly lower than that in the model group, and the positive proportion of TGF- β1 in the joint capsule in group T2 (0.51%±0.38%) was significantly lower than those in group T3 and T4 ( P<0.05). Conclusions:As SPS treatment can reduce the expression of TGF- β1 in the joint and inhibit the excessive proliferation of myofibroblasts to alleviate the pathological changes in a stiff knee, it has a significant effect on the stiff knee in rats. The SPS treatment for 30 minutes and once per day may lead to the best efficacy.

Objective By exploring the mental health situation of the unattended adolescents in Anhui province. This study aimed at investigating the status of mental health and related influential factors to provide evidence for effective strategies and intervention in physical and mental health improvement of this population. Methods By using stratified cluster sampling method, we conducted an investigation on 3421 subjects,in which 682 were unattended adolescents, from 7 middle schools in both south and north parts of Anhui province. MHT was used to assess the general condition and status of mental health in the adolescents. Results In the population aged 10 to 18 in Anhui province,19.94% of them were unattended adolescents and were found with poor mental health and more prone to loneliness, sensitive and stronger fear as compared with those with parents around, which showed statistical difference (P<0.05). As for the mental health status of unattended adolescents in different family types, the subjects seemed worse in the north than in the south Anhui regarding the total scores of MHT, self-accusation, physical symptoms and phobic anxiety disorder (P<0.05). Girl students were also inferior to boys concerning the total scores of MHT, learning anxiety, interpersonal anxiety, self-accusation, sensitivity, physical symptoms and impulsive behavior (P<0.05). The students in Grade 7 scored lower than those of the upperclassmen on MHT (P<0.05), and the subjects from township were superior to those of rural areas regarding interpersonal anxiety and loneliness (P<0.05). Children with siblings appeared worse than their counterparts on the total scores of MHT, including the items of interpersonal anxiety, learning anxiety, self-accusation, sensitivity, physical symptoms, strong fear and impulsive behavior (P<0.05). Conclusion Generally, the mental health status of unattended adolescents in Anhui province appeared poorer than their counterparts, and relatively worse psychological status was seen in girls, high school students, children with siblings and subjects living in north Anhui or rural areas.
