Background: Secondary injuries are frequent in stroke patients at the acute phase. The early rehabilitation for these patients currently still hasn't received enough attention. Thus it may increase the rate of the secondary disorders. Objectives: To describe the common secondary injuries in stroke patients at the acute phase. Subjects: 90 stroke patients over 18 years old that had experienced hemiplegia less than 30 days, and were treated at Neurology Department, Bach Mai Hospital. Method: Cross-sectional study. Data was analyzed by SPSS software, version 13.0. Results: The rate of the secondary injuries in these patients had reached 80.0%. Among them, the rate of pneumonia is the highest with 30.0%, then urological infections with 17.8%, followed by muscular atrophies, contracture of muscles, stress ulcer, and orthostatic hypotension. There is a close relation between pneumonia and perception impairment: the rate of pneumonia in perception impairment patients was 5.25 folds higher than that in patients without perception impairment (67.9% vs. 12.9%, p< 0.001). Similarly, pneumonia rate in patients with nasogastric tube was 4.2 folds higher than that of patients without nasogastric tube (90.9% vs. 21.5%, p< 0.001). Conclusion: The rate of the secondary injuries in acute stroke patients is high. It is necessary to carry out intensive nursing and rehabilitation for these patients.

Metastatic calcinosis cutis of the penis and scrotum seen in a patient with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis is a case not usually encounter in urology clinics. Review of the available literature mostly showed compromised erectile function of patients with metastatic calcinosis cutis of the penis. Presented is a case of a patient with ESRD on hemodialysis for five years who developed metastatic calcinosis of the penis and scrotum causing dysmorphic changes, however maintaining full erectile function. Preserving the erectile function after successful excision of the penile and scrotal calcification is imperative to maintain good quality of life.

Structural information has been a major concern for biological and pharmaceutical studies for its intimate relationship to the function of a protein. Three-dimensional representation of the positions of protein atoms is utilized among many structural information repositories that have been published. The reliability of the torsional system, which represents the native processes of structural change in the structural analysis, was partially proven with previous structural alignment studies. Here, a web server providing structural information and analysis based on the backbone torsional representation of a protein structure is newly introduced. The web server offers functions of secondary structure database search, secondary structure calculation, and pair-wise protein structure comparison, based on a backbone torsion angle representation system. Application of the implementation in pair-wise structural alignment showed highly accurate results. The information derived from this web server might be further utilized in the field of ab initio protein structure modeling or protein homology-related analyses.

The genus Xestospongia is one of the most widespread genera of sponges, containing abundant secondary metatolites with novel structures and potent bioactivities. The main structure types of secondary metatolites found in this genus are alkaloids, quinines, terpens, steroids, lipids, polyketones, etc. These metatolites exhibit a variety of bioactivities, such as cytotoxic, antibacterial and antiviral activities. This paper reviews the progress in the chemistry and pharmacological activities of the second metabolities from sponges of Xestospongia, especially for recent five years, with the aim for further research.

The liver is a common visceral site for metastatic tumours. Radiological features of the liver, fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and histopathological evaluation (HPE) of liver nodules have a significant role in pre-operative diagnosis of liver lesions. In an intraoperative setting, frozen section biopsy plays a major diagnostic modality but the role of imprint cytology of liver nodules is also appealing. Imprint cytology is a valuable and precise tool in diagnosing the lesions for a rapid intraoperative diagnosis. This study presents a case of colorectal cancer liver metastasis diagnosed by imprint cytology intraoperatively.

Leiomyosarcoma is an uncommon tumor which arises from various sites including uterus, stomach, retroperitoneum, superficial soft tissues, bladder, kidney, and lung. Primary hepatic leiomyosarcoma is a very rare tumor and fewer than 70 cases of primary hepatic leiomyosarcoma have been reported since the first publication in Japan. And there was only one case report of cutaneous metastasis from hepatic leiomyosarcoma. We recently experienced a case of primary hepatic leiomyosarcoma presenting as subcutaneous palpable mass. Herein we report this case with a review of literatures.
