1.Situation of filariasis mosquitoes and susceptibility of Cx.quinquefasciatus to some insecticies in Khanh Trung commune, Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(4):67-71
Study on filariaisis mosquitoes and susceptibility of Cx.quinquefasciatus to some insecticides were conducted in September 2003 at Khanh Trung commune, Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province. The results showed that: 16 mosquito species of 5 races had been found, in which mosquitoes were main vectors of Wuchereria bancrofti (Cx quinquefasciatus, Cx.vishnui) had high density, while the vectors of Brugia malayi (Ma.uniformis) had very low density. 227 mosquitoes of 4 species (An.barbumborsus, Cx quinquefasciatus, Cx.vishnui, Cx.tritaeniorhynchus) were dissected, none of them were positive with microfilaria. Cx. quinquefasciatus was found to be highly resistant to malathion, lambda-cyhalothrin and alpha-cypermethrin with mortalities of 60,5%, 11% and 21%, respectively

2.Some remarks on the malaria and anopheline mosquitoes in Quang Binh province based on the data of the surveys in the third quater, 2004
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(6):18-26
All of 8 villages of Lam Thuy and Ngan Thuy communes are high malaria endemic areas. The slide positive rates (SPR) in Lam Thuy and Ngan Thuy are 11.56% and 36.20% respectively; P. falciparum positive rates are 72.50% and 67.80%; Parasite positive rates in children at 1-5 years old are 45.00% and 32.20%. Habit of sleeping without bed net of the local population and unfectioning microscopic points have made the malaria situation higher in these two communes. Anopheline component in Km 14 village, Ngan Thuy commune, Le Thuy district is abundant (19 species): with the presentation of the two main malaria vectors An.dirus and An.minimus. The landscape in this area is suitable for the production and development of two main malaria vectors as well as other anopheline mosquitoes

3.The effect of illumination power, size of holding cages and rearing density on the development and reproduction of anopheles minimus theobald, 1901
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(6):66-72
Experiments were carried out on free mating An. minimus strain in the laboratory. Under condition of illumination power at 200-220 lux the rates of larvae developed to pupae and to adults were 62.7% and 59.3%, respectively. The mean life span of the males was shorter than that of females. At optimum rearing density of one mosquito per 1.3 cm2 of a vertical side of holding cage the inseminated rate was 72% and mean number of eggs was 145 per female. The size of 30 x 30 x 30 cm of holding cages and illumination power at 200 lux seemed to be suitable for efficient mating of An. minimus

4.Assessment of the susceptibility of culex vishnui to some insecticides in Khanh Trung commune, Khanh Vinh district, Khanh Hoa province
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(6):73-75
This study was carried out on June 2004. Using the paper soaked in chemicals of WHO. Some insecticides, malathion 5% and Organophosphate Control; lambdacyhalothrin 0.05%, alphacypermethrin 30 mg/m2 and Pyrethroid Control. The test was applied by the method of WHO (WHO/CDS/CPC/MAI/98.12). The results showed that: Culex vishnui in Khanh Vinh district had a high resistance to some insecticides such as: malathion, lambdacyhalothrin and alphacypermethrin with the mortality rate of 13% - 17%, 19.7% and 23.7%, respectively

5.Epidemiological survey of lymphatic filariasis in two provinces of Gia Lai and Kon Tum
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2004;0(3):84-91
An epidemiological survey for lymphatic filariasis was conducted in Nov.2001 in 4 communes of GiaLai and KonTum provinces. Blood was taken at night for detecting filarium, and mosquitoes were caugh for surveying entomologically. No microfilarium was detected in blood but a high rate of Culex quinquefasciatus,Culex vishnui, Culex puscocephalia was found. Dissection performed on 681 invidual mosquitoes did not show micofilarium

6.Detection of P.falciparum and P.vivax sporozoites in mosquitoes by ELISA
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2003;0(4):45-51
A total of 10.140 Anopheles mosquitoes were collected during the period 1985-1995 in 5 study sites. ELISA(+) reactions were detected in 229 mosquito samples from 10 Anopheles species of An.minimus, An.dirus, An.vagns, An.maculatus, An.subpictus, An.campestris, An.tessellatus, An.jeyporiensis, An.aconitus, An.spl. In Bai Tranh (Thanh Hoa province), Khanh Phu and Khanh Nam (Khanh Hoa province), 7 species were found to be infected with malaria sporozoites as An.minimus, An.dirus, An.vagus, An.maculatus. An.aconitus, An.tessellatus, An.jeyporiensis. In the brackish water commune Phong Phu (Binh Chanh district, HCM city) and in Can Giuoc district (Long An province), 7 species were found to be infected with malaria sporozoites as An. subpictus, An.sinensis, An.sundaicus, An.campestris, An.vagus, An.tessellatuss, An.spl. The positive infection rate was An.dirus (4,5% - 8,5%), An.minimus (8,3%) in Khanh Phu and Khanh Nam (Khánh Hòa) and An.sinensis (4,5% - 11%). An.campestris (6,6% - 6,7%), An.vagus (4,6%) in Phong Phu (HCM city) and Can Giuoc (Long An)

7.A study of filaria in Taiwan monkeys.
Chong Hwan KIM ; John F BERGNER
The Korean Journal of Parasitology 1964;2(1):81-86
Filarial adult were found in the intermuscular connective tissue of the peritracheal and mandibular region of the Taiwan monkey(Macaca cyclopis). The microfilariae in the peripheral blood demonstrated a marked nocturnal periodicity with a peak between 2100-0100 hours and a low diurnal minimum between 900 and 1300 hours. Staining the microfilaria by various stains demonstrated differences in size. No development of microfilariae was detected in the Culex fatigans, Culex tritaeniohyncus, Aedes albopictus, Anopheles minimus, Armigeres subalbatus or Mansonia uniformis mosquitoes.
