Objective To analyze retrospectively long term follow up of inferior vena cava filters in conjunction with thrombolysis and anti coagulant therapy in prevention and treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE) in 24 patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) Methods This study included 13 males and 11 females with an average age of 52 4 years (14-86 years) Percutaneous implantation of inferior vena cava filters was performed via a femoral vein in 24 patients with acute or subacute DVT, of whom two were given conjunctive catheter based urokinase thrombolysis After the procedure, 20 patients underwent intravenous urokinase thrombolysis with subcutaneous low weight molecular heparin for 10 days and subsequent oral warfarin for six months Results All patients underwent a successful interventional procedure with an average 15 month (10-48 months) follow up One week after the procedure, relief of symptoms related to DVT was achieved in all the 24 patients Neither filter migration and thrombolic occlusion of filter nor PE and major hemorrhage were observed in this series Conclusion The use of inferior vena cava filters in conjunction with thrombolysis and anti coagulant therapy is a safe and effective treatment modality in patients with DVT, which can be used to prevent subsequent PE

Objective To establish the optimal section planes for observing ventricular septal defect(VSD) by real-time three dimensional echocardiography(RT-3DE).Methods In 6 pig hearts with different types of VSD, after high pressural perfusion with coupling reagent, two dimensional, dual plane and RT-3DE were performed with different section planes, estimating with half quantificational visional grade:4 marks,very clear;3 marks,clear;2 marks,not clear enough; 1 marks,not clear. Results Observation by RT-3DE, en-face view of atrial-ventricular(S2a) and en-face view of left ventricular septum(L1a) provided relatively ideal section planes in sub-arterial ventricular septal defect, S2a and en-face view of right ventricular septum(L2a) provided relatively ideal section planes in perimembranous and muscular VSD. Conclusions S2a reflects relatively ideal section plane in sub-arterial, perimembranous and muscular VSD.

Aim To study the expression of caspase-12 mRNA and protein following focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in rats,and explore the effect of endoplasmic reticulum pathway on neuronal apoptosis.Methods 60 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham-operated group and ischemic group.The middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)models were established by using the intraluminal suture occlusion method,neuronal apoptosis was detected by TUNEL staining,the expression of caspase-12 protein was detected by immunohistochemical staining,the expression of caspase-12 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR method.Results In ischemic group,the number of apoptotic cells and the expression of caspase-12 mRNA and protein were gradually increased following prolonged cerebral reperfusion,reached the peak at 24 h.The number of apoptotic cells and the expression of caspase-12 mRNA and protein in ischemic group were significantly less than those of sham-operated group at all times(P

Objective To explore the risk factors for intracranial hemorrhage caused by late vitamin K deficiency bleeding(VKDB),in order to prevent and reduce the incidence of intracranial hemorrhage caused by late VKDB.Methods A retrospective analysis of the risk factors of late VKDB and intracranial hemorrhage was applied to 2 groups of patients in PICU and department of neurology of Beijing children's Hospital from Jan.2002 to Dec.2007.In group Ⅰ,there were 90 patients suffering from intracranial hemorrhage caused by late VKDB;while in group Ⅱ,there were 23 patients of late VKDB without intracranial hemorrhage.Within 12 hours of hospitalization,the following 9 items were checked:the cranial CT,blood calcium concentration,liver function,serum sodium,blood glucose,prothrombin time,partial thromboplastin time,fibrinogen concentration,and platelet.Ten possible relevant risk factors of gender,age,birth situation,feeding patterns,recent diarrhea,cytomegalovirus(CMV)infection,hypocalcemia,dysglycemia,hyponatremia,and abnormal liver function were analyzed by the method of non-conditional Logistic regression analysis.Results Statistically significant difference had been found in the 3 factors of hypocalcaemia,recent diarrhea,abnormal liver function(Pa
