Objective To investigate the significance of plasma exchange (PE) treatment on children with hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).Methods From Jan 2008 to Dec 2010,16 patients diagnosed with HUS were included in this study,and PE was carried out on them.Frozen plasma was taken as replacement fluid,and the treatment time was 2 to 3 hours per time.Results All the 16 patients after PE treatment were survived without any apparent complications.The condition obviously alleviated after initial treatment.In 12 to 72hours,the icterus disappeared,serum creatinine [ ( 385.0 ± 189.4 ) μmol/L vs ( 100.0 ± 19.3 ) μmol/L ] and lactate dehydrogenase [ (799.3 ± 289.8 ) U/L vs (300.0 ± 100.4) U/L ] declined obviously ( P ＜ 0.05 ) and platelet count [ (45.0 ± 18.8 ) × 109/L vs ( 120.0 ± 20.0 ) × 109/L ],hemoglobin [ ( 59.3 ± 15.3 ) g/L vs ( 120.0 ± 18.3) g/L] rised( P ＜ 0.05 ).In the end,symptoms disappeared in 15 patients,laboratory examination returned to normal in 14 cases.Hospitalization time was 15 to 57 days.Conclusion PE can effectively relieve the illness and remove plasma pathogenic substances,block the pathological process of HUS and supply useful ingredients.Recommend PE as the fhst option in the treatment of HUS.

Objective: To measure and compare the color of a new and a conventional Vita shade guide(VITAPAN 3D-Master and LUMIN RVACUUM-Farbskala) in order to provide the references for clinical application.Methods: Color in the two shade guides was measured with Minolta colorimeter CR-321 under the light of D 65 and reported in CIE1976L*a*b* color system. Each tab was detected 3 times in the same dimensions at the middle facial surface. Mean values were calculated as the shade of the tab.Results: The range of color value in VITAPAN 3D-Master was larger than that in LUMIN R VACUUM-Farbaskala because the lower value tab was added. The distrbution of a* deviated to the red color , while the green color was relatively deficient. The yellow color could cover the color space of Chinese teeth, and the blue was not enough, although the distribution of b* was enlarged. The tabs of the two shade guides did not match with each other. Only a few tabs could not tell in shade by naked eyes. Conclusion: VITAPAN 3D -Master shade guide can not cover the color of Chinese teeth although it has 10 tabs added and color space enlarged.

BACKGROUND:Studies addressing reconstruction of tooth tissue engineering have shown that tooth structure can be constructed using tissue engineering technology. Tooth root and its periodontal attachment are critical for tooth survival and functions, based on which, whether we can target root tissues with simple structure for tissue engineering construction by bypassing a complex dental tissue engineering concept with the structural integrity?
OBJECTIVE:To construct a tissue-engineered dental root by seeding dental papil a cells, as seed cells, into poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)/sodium alginate hydrogel.
METHODS:Rabbit dental papil a cells were isolated and cultured. The cells were then mixed with 1%sodium alginate hydrogel at a final density of 6×109/L. The cellsuspension was seeded into a poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) scaffold with predetermined shape of human tooth and solidified with calcium chloride. Final y, the cel-scaffold composites were subcutaneously implanted into the back of nude mice. The specimens were harvested after 4 and 8 weeks respectively and processed for gross inspection, X-ray and CT examination and histological observation.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The newly formed tissue kept the original shape of human dental root 4 and 8 weeks post-implantation. After 4 weeks of implantation, the specimen density was low;the root implants appeared to be incompletely mineralized, alginate hydrogels were degraded, but the copolymer scaffold was not degraded;a number of dentin-like structure appeared, and a fibrous membrane structure was visible on the surface of specimens paral el to the root surface, but the structure was not continuous, and no pulp cavity formed. After 8 weeks, the newly formed tissue was highly mineralized close to root tissue of the nature tooth;the copolymer scaffold was mostly degraded;specimens appeared to have a large number of mature dentin-like structure, and form continuous fibers membrane on the surface paral el to the root surface, below which, cementum-like structure formed. Artificial dental root with biological y similar structures of human dental roots can be constructed using the method of tissue engineering.

Objective To study the effects and safety of levocarnitine and shuxuetong in treatment of the patients with chronic renal failure.Methods 94 patients with chronic renal failure were selected as research object,and they were randomly divided into group A(levocarnitine and shuxuetong group) 47 cases and group B(shuxuetong group) 47 cases.Group A were treated with levocarnitine oral solution and shuxuetong,and group B were treated with shuxuetong,then the percentage of effectiveness,incidence of adverse reactions of group A and group B and serum BUN,Scr,Hcy were analyzed.Results The percentage of effectiveness of group A was higher than that of group B,but the incidence of adverse reactions of the two groups had no difference,and the serum BUN,Scr,Hcy of group A and group B before the treatment had no differences(P＞0.05),those of group A and group B after treatment were compared there were significant differences(all P＜0.05).Conclusion The effects of levocarnitine oral solution and shuxuetong in treatment of patients with chronic renal failure were better.

Objective To study effects of yinlingⅠon cell viability and oxidative injury of lead-exposed cell.Methods After lead exposure Vero cell was treated with yinlingⅠof different concentrations.The cell viablitity was measured by methyl thiaxiolyl tetrazolium(MTT) method and the superoxide dismutase(SOD)and malondialdehyde(MDA) activity in cell suspensions were measured.Results When Vero cell lived in 125 ?mol/L lead acetate surrounding,the MDA concentration increased,but the viability of cell and the SOD content in the Vero cell suspension decreased.YinlingⅠcould increase the viability of lead-exposed cell during a certain extent;in the most non-toxicity concentration yinlingⅠcould elevate the SOD content in the Vero cell suspension,reduced the MDA concentration and resisting lead toxication in vitro.Conclusion YinlingⅠhas the protective effects on the cell viability and oxidative injury of lead-exposed cell.

Methods Mice were pretreated with QGS for 7 d. Murine models of acute lung injury were duplicated by injection of LPS 20 mg/kg intraperitoneally. In 12 h, the lung weight index was observed and the NO level in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was measured with kits. It has been well known that apoptosis induction and cell cycle arrest are typical biological effects observed in cancer cells after proteasome inhibition. TH2 is a new natural xanthone analogue isolated from the resin of Garcinia hurburyi tree. Here, the cell growth inhibition of TH2 on human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (Bel-7402) was evaluated in vitro using SRB assay. The treatment of 10 ?mol/L TH2 reduced the surviving fraction from 86% (12 h) to 17.2% (48 h). To assess whether TH2 induce apoptosis, the appearance of sub-G1 peak, a specific fraction for apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry analysis. Progressive increase in the percentage of apoptotic population was observed in a dose-and time-dependent manner. Furthermore, a cleavage of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), a marker of early apoptosis, was observed clearly when the cells exposed to 10 ?mol/L of TH2 for 24 h by immunoblotting analysis. In vitro activities of 20 S proteasome purified from human erythrocytes on fluorogenic peptide substrates revealed that TH2 inhibited the trypsin-like, chymotrypsin-like and peptidylglutamyl peptide hydrolyzing activities in dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the turnover of tumor suppressor p53, a sign of deregulation of cell cycle progression and apoptosis induction by classical proteasome inhibitors, was disrupted in Bel-7402 cells. All these data indicate that TH2 had inhibitory effect on the proliferation of Bel-7402 cells and induction of apoptosis, which might be related to its inhibition of proteasome.
