This study was aimed to explore an effect evaluation method of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of viral pneumonia. Association rules were used to analyze the therapeutic effect of heat, stagnation, and phlegm related syndromes from 297 respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) pneumonia children before and after treatment. The results showed that through the comparison of the frequent itemset of heat, stagnation, and phlegm related syn-dromes, in part of the time, the support degree of the experimental group was obviously lower than that in the con-trol group (P < 0.05). The frequent itemset of the experimental group disappeared 1~3 d earlier than the control group, which indicated the effect in the experimental group was better than the control group. It was concluded that association rules can be used for evaluating therapeutic effect of TCM in treatment of viral pneumonia. The effect evaluation method based on association rules of symptoms is more in line with the syndrome differentiation of TCM.

Objective To investigate the relationship between cytomegalovirus infection and biliary atresia.Methods Sixteen infants with CMV infection and biliary atresia were retrospectively reviewed and compared with clinical manifestations with 29 infants with CMV hepatitis.Results Both serum CMV-IgM antibody and CMV-pp65 in polymophnuclear leukocytes were found positive in 9 cases,only CMV IgM antibody was found positive in 1 case and only CMV-pp65 were found positive in 3 cases,both CMV-IgM and CMV-pp65 were found negative in 3 cases.14 of 15 cases of CMV-pp65 were detected in liver tissues including 3 cases with negative CMV-IgM antibody and CMV-pp65 in blood.The clinical indexes in these 16 cases were much more severe than which in 29 infants with CMV hepatitis (P

Objective To explore the application of "Work-Study Combination"(referred to "Institutions Join Forces with Hospitals" in this paper) in nursing education system of Shanghai Institute of Health Sciences. Methods Data of teaching plan and curriculum of students from 2005 and 2006 grades were compared.With construction of "National Model of Higher Vocational Institutions",transformation in professional curriculum reforming,teaching resources sharing,teachers staff constructing,in-school and out-school vocational training bases establishing,and students evaluation system were compared.Results Regulated and updated teaching contents and new curriculum reflected vocational education characteristics.The ratios of in-school vocational training,clinical teaching and practice in curriculum rose rapidly.Conclusion The results showed that "Institutions Join Forces with Hospitals" applying in higher nursing vocational education system was a direct expression of combination of work and study to the process of personnel cultivating.

Objective To establish an enterovirus 71(EV71) infection model of tree shrew primary renal cells.Methods Tree shrew primary renal cells were obtained by trypsin digestion.After subculture and purification,EV71 virus was used to infect these primary cells.The culture supernatant of these EV71-infected cells was collected for virus titer detection at 1,2,4,6 and 8 days post-infection.The cells were collected for detection of EV71 VP1 protein by Western blot assay.Furthermore,the expression and location of VP1 protein in the infected cells were detected by indirect immunofluorescence assay.Vero cells were taken as positive control to evaluate the infectivity of EV71 virus to tree shrew primary renal cells.Results Morphologically,the cultured cells were proved to be majorly consisted of the primary renal cells after subculture and purification.The obtained primary cells were infected by EV71 virus.The virus titer was up to 1.3×106 TCID 50/mL during 48-96 h post-infection,proving that EV71 virus infected and proliferated in the tree shrew primary renal cells.Western blot showed that the viral VP1 protein was detected from infected primary cells at 2 to 8 d post infection.VP1 protein was also observed in the cytoplasm at 2 to 6 d post infection by indirect immunofluorescence.Compared with Vero cells,the infectivity of EV71 virus to tree shrew primary renal cells and its proliferation were confirmed.Conclusions Based on the successful establishment of cell culture of tree shrew primary renal cells,the infectivity to the obtained cells and proliferation of EV71 virus in the cells are confirmed.The model of EV71 virus-infected tree shrew primary renal cells is initially established.

Objectives To investigate the expression of B lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS) and its receptor BAFF-R(a receptor of B-cell activator factor, belonging to the TNF family) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and to explore their clinical significance. Methods The patients were separated into active group (n = 28) and inactive group (n = 24) according to the SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI). The mRNA and protein expression of BLyS and its receptor BAFF-R were measured by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western-blot in PBMCs from the patients and 21 healthy volunteers. The relationship between the expression of BLyS and BAFF-R and SLEDAI was analyzed. Results In the case of the expression of mRNA and protein of BLyS and BAFF-R, the patients had a higher level than the healthy controls (P 0.05). Conclusions These findings indicate that BLyS and its receptor BAFF-R might be involved in the pathogenesis of SLE. Also, BLyS expression level might be a new parameter for the evaluation of SLE disease activity and therapeutic effect.

Objective To summarize the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and surgical management experiences of 51 cases of pulmonary fungal infections. Methods The clinical data of 51pulmonary fungal infection patients hospitalized in department of thoracic surgery of PLA General Hospital from 1981 to 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Results The recruited cases included three cases of Candida albicans, 22 of Aspergillus, and 26 of Cryptococcus. The clinical symptoms included cough, hemoptysis, fever, chest tightness, chest pain and asthma. Twenty cases were identified through routine healthy examination. Of chest X-ray and computed tomograply scan, 29 cases presented with solid nodules in the lung, some of which had burrs and spikes; 13 presented with pulmonary cavity with even wall thickness and smooth inner wall including 7 with aspergillar glomera.Forty-eight cases underwent standard thoracotomy operations and 3 cases underwent thoracoscope or thoracoscopy-assisted minithoracotomy. Seventeen underwent pulmonary lobectomies, and 34 wedge resections. There was no operative mortality in the 51 patients. All diagnoses were confirmed by postoperative pathology. There was no relapse during 3- 10 years of follow-up. Conclusions Primary pulmonary fungal infections lack characteristic presentations in clinical manifestations and imaging examinations. Pathology is the evidence for definite diagnosis. Surgical intervention is an effective tool for diagnose and treatment of this disease.

Objective To evaluate narrow band imaging (NBI) assisted argon plasma coagulation (APC) in treatment of Barrett's esophagus (BE). Methods Suspected BE lesion was observed under white light, NBI and magnification, biopsies were taken at the site with characteristic pit pattern and capillary architecture of BE. A total of 86 patients with pathologically confirmed BE were randomly divided into NBI group (n= 42) to receive APC under NBI, or control group (n= 44) to receive APC under whit light. For APC procedure, the probe was inserted through biopsy channel to reach 1 cm beyond the endoscope tip, and was located 1-2 cm from the lesion to assure safe use. All patients were followed up with endoscopy and biopsy at 3 and 6 months after APC, respectively. Results There was no significant difference between 2 groups in effective rate of BE mucosal eradication at 3 and 6 months after APC procedure (P > 0.05). Conclusion NBI assisted APC is safe and effective in eradication of BE epithelium, in reducing procedure time and in relieving of functional gastrointestinal symptoms related with BE.

Objective To investigate the correlation between age and the prognosis of thrombolytic therapy in acute ischemic stroke (AIS).Methods One hundred and fourteen patients with AIS were divided into ≤60 years group,61-70 years group and ≥71 years group according to age.Thrombolysis and post-thrombolysis treatment was done in accordance with 2010 version of Chinese Acute Ischemic Stroke Treatment Guidelines standard.The United States National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score was done in patient immediately after treatment,24 h after thrombolysis and 7 d after thrombolysis,and modified Rankin scale (mRS) score was assessed 3 months after thrombolysis The spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) and the death of 2 weeks was recorded.Results ≤ 60 years group had 22 males and 10 females;61-70 years group had 26 males and 10 females; ≥71 years group had 20 males and 26 females.In ≥ 71 years group,women accounted for 56.52％ (26/46),which was higher than that in the other 2 groups,and there was significant difference (x2 =0.685,P =0.015).The NIHSS score immediately after treatment,24 h after thrombolysis and 7 d after thrombolysis among 3 groups had no significant difference (P ＞ 0.05).The mRS score at the 3 months after thrombolysis among 3 groups was (1 ± 3),(2 ± 5) and (2 ± 3) scores,respectively,and there was significant difference(P =0.040).Mortality and incidence of sICH in 2 weeks also had significant difference (P =0.049,0.017).Conclusions Despite the differences in the mortality and incidence of sICE among different ages,thrombolytic therapy with recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator can significantly improve the neurological deficit after 3 months in AIS patients of different ages.

Objective To enhance the protective immunity effects against Schistosoma japonicum infection by priming with cocktail DNA vaccines and boosting with cocktail protein vaccines in infected BALB/c mice.Methods Plasmids and proteins for immunization were prepared and diluted in no bacterial saline solution to final concentration of 1.5 mg/ml,and mixed with pcDNA3.1-SjC23,pcDNA3.1-SjCTPI,pcDNA3.1-(CDR3)6 plasmid DNAs by equal volume to form the cocktail DNA vaccine,and also mixed with recombinant proteins SjC23-HD,SjCTPI,and NP30 by equal volume to form the cocktail protein vaccine.Seventy female BALB/c mice of 4-5 weeks old were randomly divided into 5 groups(A,B,C,D,E).In Group A(control group),each mouse was immunized with 100 ?l saline solution by intramuscular(i.m.);in Group B(pcDNA3.1 control group),each mouse was immunized(i.m.)with 100 ?l pcDNA3.1 for three times at week 0,3,6;in Group C(pcDNA3.1 and cocktail protein group),each mouse was immunized(i.m.)with 100 ?l pcDNA3.1 for three times at week 0,3,6 and immunized with 100 ?l mixed protein vaccines plus 100 ?l FCA by subcutaneous at week 9;in Group D(cocktail DNA vaccines group),each mouse was immunized(i.m.)with 100 ?l mixed DNA vaccines for three times at week 0,3,6;in Group E(cocktail DNA vaccines plus cocktail proteins),each mouse was immunized(i.m.)with 100 ?l mixed DNA vaccines for three times at week 0,3,6 and immunized with 100 ?l mixed protein vaccines plus 100 ?l FCA by subcutaneous at week 9.Four weeks after the last DNA immunization or two weeks after protein boosting,all the mice were challenged with(40?1)cercariae of Schistosoma japonicum by abdominal skin penetration at the same time.Forty-two days post-challenge,the mice were sacrificed and perfused,and the numbers of recovered worms and eggs in liver were counted.The blood was collected from the tail veins of all the mice two days before the first immunization and challenge,respectively,the serum was prepared for detection of IgG,IgG1 and IgG2a.Two days before the challenge,the spleen cells of two mice from each group were cultured and stimulated with ConA and soluble egg antigen(SEA),and the supernatant was collected for detection of IL-2,IL-4 and IFN-?.Results The worm reduction rates in Group C,D and E were 17.70%,32.88% and 45.35%,respectively,compared with the control group.The worm reduction rates in Group D and E were significantly higher than that in Group C(P

Objective To evaluate the effect of electrical stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles combined with bladder training on urinary dysfunctionafter incomplete spinal cord injury.Methods Sixty-two incomplete spinal cord injury patients who had received an operation between November 2009 and December 2014 were enrolled and divided randomly into a control group (n=32) and a treatment group (n =30).Both groups were treated with conventional intermittent catheterization,while the treatment group was additionally given electrical stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles combined with bladder training.The residual urine volume was recorded before and after the treatment.Uurodynamic examinations were conducted,and the rate of successful catheter extraction and of urinary tract infection on the 15th and 30th day of treatment,were recorded and analyzed.Results All of the patients were followed-up for an average of 18.5 months.Significant improvement was observed in the residual urine volume,the maximum or average urinary flow rate,and the detrusor pressure at peak flow of both groups.However,at the end of follow-up the treatment group recorded significantly better results on all these measures than the control group.The successful catheter extraction rate of the treatment group (96.7％) was significantly higher than that of the control group and their average number of catheterization days was significantly fewer.The urinary tract infection rates on the 15th and 30th day of treatment were 16.7％ and 6.7％ in the treatment group,significantly lower than in the control group.Conclusions Electrical stimulation of the pelvic floor combined with bladder training significantly improves urination function after an operation for incomplete spinal cord injury,decreases the days of catheterization and lowers the rate of urinary tract infection.Such combined therapy is worth promoting in clinical practice.
